Proclaim Software and (English) Song with (German) translation
Hi
Our church language is German (we are based in Switzerland). We use the proclaim presenting software for our services.
What we didn't found out till now: If we sing a song in English and we want to have the German translation of it in a second line, how can we do it?
E.g. / Slides like this:
...
Bless the Lord, O my soul
Gesegnet sei der Herr, o meine Seele
O my soul
Oh meine Seele
...
The bold text is what we sing (English), we wanna provide the German translation (see above in italic) cause some of our service participator don't understand the English language.
The text we sing and the translation should be in different format, so people know what to sing.

Hey Stefan,
There are a couple ways to achieve what you are asking, but you won't be able to control the font style as much as you are requesting unless you use a content slide. (I'll explain both below)
When inserting a song slide you get the capabilities of verse order feature, credits and titles. When inserting a song slide you can insert "soft breaks" using the Shift+Enter keys. From there you can insert your text in this format:
Bless the Lord, oh my soul
Gesegnet sei der Herr, o meine Seele (Shift+Enter to insert the soft break)
O my soul
Oh meine Seele
You won't be able to make the English in a bold font without creating all the font bold in the song bold.
You can create what you are asking in a content slide, but you will lose the capability of verse order. You will essentially have to manually create your song order rather then using a song slide which can create verse order much quicker.
If you use a content slide you will just have to add a new text box for each new text format. For example: Bless the lord, O my soul text would be its own separate text box.

Matt, as I see proclaim is not matching our needs. The idea of content-slide is very complicated and not convenient to have songs with translation. For us as German speaking church with a lot of English songs, this feature will become more and more crucial. I check this with our team, if other software will meet our needs.. Thank you anyway.

Even when I do a content slide (layout: 1st text area left = English, what we sing, 2nd text area right = Translation) and do a slide-break with -- on the 2nd text area, this does not do a slide-break. Is this a bug?

@Scott & Matt: Just an aside from an international customer: I think I remember the feature Stefan asks about has been mentioned several times over the years in the forums - not only by international customers (by the way our church in Germany does it exactly the same way as Stefan describes with another software) but also by US-based churches that offer services / sing songs in other languages or have minorities present. I think I remember English/Korean and Spanish/English as language combinations that have been asked for in the past. So if you were thinking whether it makes sense to invest development effort in having this work more or less hassle-free for customers: don't look for the size of Switzerland on a world map, but look for all of North America plus Asia plus a sizeable chunk of central Europe and Southern Africa.

The -- on the second text box has no effect on the slides. A bug? Or a unsupported feature?

Hello Stefan,
The line break only works in the main content field. You can copy and paste the second text box in the second slide to get a new text field. You will have to match the formatting as they have separate controls though.

@Justin: We are talking about to do song-slides with the add-content-feature of Proclaim. If I have to do it with dozens of text-boxes - this is too much work for a song..
I guess we can close this discussion with the outcome: If Proclaim dont have the feature of songs with translation. This is a disadvantage to other presenting software. Cause Proclaim have some/a-lot international users, they will bring/not-bring this feature [:)]

I would be happy if we could format single lines of text in a song sheet differently like it is possible with the content text. Could it not be done by LATEX like "*" markers in the text?

Just wondering out loud, since chords have been added to the Confidence monitor in different color since Feb 2022, could translation notes be put into this secondary color? Could it be put into Main output?
