Use of Daily Devotionals in Vyrso
Is there any way to make use of a daily devotional published in Vyrso in Logos? I'm looking at https://vyrso.com/product/49367/new-morning-mercies-a-daily-gospel-devotional which has a devotional for each day. This doesn't show up in my devotional list (I didn't expect it to since it's not a Logos product). But is there a way to define it as a devotional and make it appear? If not, consider this a suggestion.

Jacob,
since all Vyrso books are type "monograph", you can't use them as a daily devotional (DD) in the sense that they appear in the main section of the home page just like e.g. "Connect the Testaments" does. If you absolutely need to have a 100% DD look and feel, you can export your Vyrso book to Word and compile it as a PB in DD type.
Other than that, it's easy: built a reading plan from it. It seems, since Vyrso normally has no page numbers to distract the functionality, breaks will be smoothly at the daily chapter breaks - I just built one from https://vyrso.com/product/36421/stand-firm-day-by-day-let-nothing-move-you just to check: works like a charm but has extra-days for copyright page and intro and such. I factored that in by doing some more sessions and backdating the start some days:

No. That is what defines a "logos" edition resource vs. a "vyrso" one. If it were hand tagged (as a devotional), it would be a Logos edition and not an "auto converted" vyrso one.

What you are asking for is a Logos edition resource (with a Logos edition price). There is another option, however:
If the resource has the appropriate headings (it may or may not), you <might> be able to create a reading plan. I have successfully done this with Vyrso resources before. If you are lucky enough, then you can do the following:
- Each daily reading needs to have its own heading.
- Figure out how many other headings there might be (i.e. Title Page, TOC, etc.)
- Create a reading plan with total number of readings PLUS the ones for the additional headings. (i.e. 365+Title Page, TOC, About the Author, etc.)
- Back date the reading plan to account for the headings before the first real reading.
If you are lucky, you will end up with a reading plan that has one "reading" for each day as you would expect.

Thanks, I made the reading plan version of it just as you did...but was hoping for the alternative, but sorta knew the answer as I was asking it.
I hope that in the future since there are so many devotional books on Vyrso, they can auto-identify them as devotionals (or allow us to define them as such).

How would you "define" it as such? What would that look like? Manually adding a marker on each and every reading? How would that be easier than what you already did?

Agree. I bought so many of them from Vyrso.

Just for me to understand - what exactly is the benefit you're looking for that a DD would give you / y'all that you are missing from a Reading Plan?
And a second thought: since the automated production process in Vyrso - corresponding to the low markup / revenue Faithlife can take on them - currently precludes the insertion of hundreds of date tags into a resource by Faithlife's text production, what solution are you looking at from Faithlife
- develop an automated run that can insert DD tags into an ePub-based textsource (e.g. finding typical patterns like Day 1, 2, 3, day one, two, three, Jan 1, Jan 2 ... in header-formatted text and replace with code)
- change the software so that community tags (or comparable feature in Logos) are working like text-internal tags thus allowing community-based tagging plus allow redefinition of the library resource type from monograph to Calendar Devotional
- allow for a volunteer group to perform tagging by exposing text production tool(s), subsequently offering the enhanced file through Vyrso in "real" Logos format
- ... else?
Have you ever tried doing this manually by creating a PB from your vyrso book - did it fulfill your needs from he first question or where not (besides making more effort than just downloading and indexing the book) ?

Devotionals appear in the list of devotionals on the iOS app and on my computer. It isn't the kind of thing you "fall behind" on but something that you want in front of you when you hit the app for a quick 3-10 minutes of reading.
As far as Vyrso automation, I think it's super simple. If a resource is defined as an annual daily devotional, each chapter is defined as a day's reading. January 1st (or user definable start date) is chapter 1 and so forth if there are 365 chapters. If there are fewer, then the user should be able to define a start date when they add the devotional to their devotional list.
But the idea of allowing volunteers to make Vyrso books more valuable seems like a super good one...Give us nothing. Give us "faithlife points". Or even better, give us vyrso credit (doesn't have to be a lot). But with some simple markup, we could make commentaries commentaries, devotionals devotionals, and give books better verse tagging and even resource linking.

I've got a similar question as Jacob's original for the New Morning Mercies Vyrso devotional. I followed the advice stated above of backdating the start date of the reading plan and this worked great except that this particular devotional book includes a reading for February 29. There is no February 29th in 2018, so this day's reading is scheduled for March 1st. This causes readings from this point on to be off a day. See below:
Does anyone know of a way to fix this so that Feb 28's reading includes both February 28 and February 29, and then Mar 1st's reading is March 1 and so on? I wish there was a way to edit individual readings, but I haven't discovered how. I've tried removing the Mar 1 reading of February 29, but it only deletes that day's reading and does not shift other days readings.

Thank you for this suggestion. I'll plan to read both the February 28 and 29 readings on Feb 28 and then "adjust from here". Hopefully, that will work. Thanks again!
