Mattillo: If God Why Evil? is on sale on Vyrso.
Why all the bundling? Request to Logos/Faithlife staff
Humble request to FL to stop with the unnecessary bundling of books and/or to break up bundles
Is it possible to please break up some of the bundles in Logos? Why the bundling in the first place? There are several books I’m interested in but they are tied into bundles and I don’t want to spend $100+ to get the one book I want to read (some examples below). If you are going to go the bundle route, could they be broken up after a period of time so I could buy individual books and journals?
Out of the examples below, I’d love to purchase…
What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality? by Kevin DeYoung which is found in https://www.logos.com/product/55583/crossway-christian-life-collection
The Second Coming: Signs of Christ’s Return and the End of the Age by John MacArthur found in https://www.logos.com/product/55576/crossway-theology-collection-2
Bibliotheca Sacra 2015 journal articles found in https://www.logos.com/product/54391/master-journal-bundle-21
Mere Christianity found in https://www.logos.com/product/49027/the-cs-lewis-collection
I would love to give Logos more money for these resources but I find it silly I need to spend hundreds to get the one book I want. I know I’m not the typical seminary student user (at least that is what I think the typical user is) so this request may fall on dead ears but I hope Bob or someone from Faithlife sees this and tries to help out the little man. Thank you for listening

Thank you sir! That is a good book indeed
A couple more that could stand to be broken up soon (full disclosure: I need one book from each of these for my fourth year seminary classes this fall).

Just my 2cents worth: Perhaps it would be helpful to bundle the books associated with Mobile Ed courses WITH the course.
It would be wonderful if FL would package Mobile Ed courses in this manner:
Then, as already said, we could purchase all of the resources with one click, without having to search here and there for each one.
Just my two cents, for what it's (or isn't) worth. LOL.

Sensible idea but occasionally I have heard of a recommended resource being only available in a bundle so prices mixed be pretty high sometimes if you require something like EBCR to get the Isaiah volume.

This was said in the context of a discussion about unbundling resources, so I assumed that was a given. My bad. That's what I meant...that the resources would each be individually available in the mobile ed packaged deal.

Ben, Could you unbundle this one?

Thanks!
Ben,
Is it still Faithlife's policy to wait 6 months before considering breaking up bundles? I do realize some things will probably never be broken up pre the publishers requirements.
My previous understanding about the purpose for the bundling of books was so that more titles made their way into the Logos ecosystem. There are now probably thousands of books in Logos that never would have made the support cut in the prepub system as stand alone titles. That being said, is Logos considering a change, as I now see more single titles coming through prepub than I'm used to seeing in the past.
You specifically mention Crossway in your post so does that mean any non-crossway won't be broken up?Our goal is to split everything we can. I specifically mentioned Crossway because many of the books mentioned here are from the Crossway collections that recently shipped.
It would be optimal if things could be realized unbundled along with bundled at the time of publishing. Logos already has such a delay from Kindle/dead-tree publication to Logos publication that sales are lost. Unbundling and charging a premium (or consider it the flipside that the bundle is the discount) would make sense and probably ultimately result in increased sales, especially from a whole set of customers that you aren't reaching now

Has anything been broken up since we started this post? Is there an ETA on this? Just curious.
Found another today I'd like to see broken up: https://www.logos.com/product/55807/crossway-biblical-theology-collection

Probably not very many.
Rather than breaking up collections here and there, we're trying to invest our time building a solution that will allows to automatically split out bundles. I'm not sure when that'll be coming, but it's pretty high on the list.
Thanks!

We apparently can't buy OT355's EBCREV06 resource separately, as there is an "Only sold as part of the collection" icon.
However, that commentary volume is the most-linked resource for the course, at 49x. What are we supposed to do when we have pre-ordered the course, but can't afford to buy a whole commentary set to get access to a single critical volume?
Can the publisher please relax that restriction?
Can anything be done about this? Is it FL's policy to ensure that Mobile Ed course resources are sold separately?
I'm looking into this right now. I'm not sure why we aren't currently selling that resource as a standalone product.
Ben,
OliveTree and Accordance sell EBCREV volumes individually, as well as in a set. Can FL please offer the same flexibility? Thanks!
Also Accordance has EBCREV on sale for 52% off. How is it that a competitor can put Zondervan products on sale, but FL is restricted to publisher sales only? Waiting another year or so for Zondervan to put a particular Logos product on sale is not practical. Is there any chance that the Zondervan contract can be renegotiated to provide Logos customers with competitive dynamic pricing and more frequent sales?
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

I agree. It seems Logos in only hurting themselves. I'd gladly spend $20 for a book. I might buy one today and another tomorrow and another the next. But, there would never be a day I'd spend $100. Especially true if I am spending $100 to get a $20 book I want along with several books I don't want.

Unfortunately there isn't too much to say at this point. As I said earlier, we have a case in our queue to get a tool built to automatically split collections. However, there are a number of other projects in front of it that are taking a bit more time.
I'll see if we can prioritize a few collection in this post, but I can't give you a good projection of when exactly that will happen.

Could Science & Faith: Friends or Foes? and Did Adam and Eve Really Exist? Who They Were and Why You Should Care please be unbundled? They are both used by TH331, but sold in a 12-volume collection.
Thank you!
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!
It would be great if some of the remaining public domain classic collections were broken up - eg Epistles of John, Genesis and Colossians. Many of them have already been broken up but some haven't
Also John Brown of Haddington's Systematic Theology is available as part of the Systematic Theologies Collection for $1,592.81 but not available separately (it was part of a CP set that has been languishing unfunded for years).
This week I met a guy from Chile who is doing a ThM on Brown's Covenantal Theology (he's mentioned by Joel Beeke here). He would love to have this resource digitally, but there's no chance of it making it through Community Pricing in the year he will be studying.
I would pay $100 just for that resource (and have bid the maximum price for the CP set) - please could you make it available to buy separately Ben? Even for a ridiculous price!

I don't think it's even been produced yet: https://www.logos.com/product/54327/a-compendious-view-of-natural-and-revealed-religion. Maybe someone with the Systematic Theologies collection could confirm.

Myke, thanks for pointing this out! I did not know it was available in Vyrso format. Looking back on the collection, I see that it is still in the "gathering interest" stage of pre-publication. Hopefully, like you said, when this collection goes live the Vyrso edition of New Morning Mercies will be converted to Logos format.

One quick note on Vyrso to Logos editions: sometimes, the Vyrso edition has a different ISBN than the Logos edition. This is why some of the resources seemed to be overlooked from time to time. Because it's a different ISBN, we often have to create a new version. This is why you often don't automatically get the Logos edition.
That said, we should still retire the other edition from Vyrso when we get a different edition in Logos.
In some cases where the two books are identical but for the ISBN, we will still unlock the additional resource for those who already own the Vyrso edition. Where there are differences, though, there isn't much we can do.
This may not apply to all of the resources mentioned in this thread. I'll look into each of those separately.
