Verse number misalignment

I had not noticed why before but one of the factors that contributes to Bible text not looking as neat in resource windows is the misalignment of verse numbers as in the screenshot below (I zoomed in quite a bit to make sure the alignment is easy to see on the smaller forum posts):
Now I can understand that perhaps the 14 is misaligned to mark the beginning of the pericope as is the boldface type, but why are not the other numbers perfectly aligned? (This is the NASB95).
I found the same in the NRSV. The ESV is in paragraph format but when I use the one verse at a time filter, I observe misalignment as well.
Not sure what accounts for that but I am sure it would look better if it were not misaligned.

These are not misaligned. It's a non-lining font style. It's used in a variety of places throughout the application. 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 all descend below the baseline.

Thanks for the explanation, Andrew. What is the rationale for using non-lining font style? I don't find that it looks good.

It's a stylistic choice. I found this quote here: https://www.fonts.com/content/learning/fontology/level-3/numbers/oldstyle-figures
"This elegant style of figure is pleasing – and often preferred in running text. It is less intrusive than lining figures, allowing the numerals to blend with the surrounding lowercase characters. Oldstyle figures also pair up nicely with small caps."
