March Madness
Well I just voted after getting the email about Logos' March Madness promotion. The 4 Verbum/Catholic commentaries are paired with Protestant commentaries and that might bode ill for them in this promotion. I cheer and support folks like Cavins and Hahn that are diligently striving to educate Catholics about such a principal source of our deposit of faith. But I think we have a way to go..... The Navarre is on my list, so if the discount there goes big enough it'll be entering my library sooner rather than later....

Glad that you cast your vote! Verbum is certainly the underdog in this match, but we've got to start somewhere.
Also, all the products will get at minimum a 35% discount, so I think in the end we'll all be winners!

Alas it would appear Navarre is the David here and this time I think Goliath wins.

35% is a pretty good starting point!

Ah, and the solution is to get every Roman Catholic you know to buy Verbum and then they can vote. (That would also make the folks in Belligham happy.)
I'm sure Roman Catholics are not alone in this. Unless FL started offering a different March Madness for every single affinity group it markets to, I am sure there would be folks wondering why their group won't ever have a winner.

The 4 Verbum/Catholic commentaries ...
Okay, I'm missing the 4th one. I see Navarre, Sacra Pagina, and Berit Olam. What is the 4th one?
EDIT: Nevermind, I see the New Collegeville set now. It's getting trounced by the ITC.

Well it looks like even though the discounts link on the March Madness page doesn't reflect anything yet, the individual page for the Standard Edition Navarre OT & NT 19 volume set already reflects 35% off. I assume that would grow in MIRACULOUS event it actually got past the first round. And at this point, I think it would take Divine intervention for that to happen. LOL But, my next question is how long the discount will be there? All of March? The Final Four? ???

Navarre Bible, Standard Edition (19 vols.) is included in Verbum Diamond and Verbum Portfolio
New Collegeville Bible Commentary (25 vols.) also shows 35 % off

I think it's worth noting that the Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible, which has some volumes written by Catholics--including Bishop Robert Barron and Dr. Matthew Levering--has made it to the second round.

Good post Mark!

Added Sacra Pagina to the library as a result of this year's March Madness discounts. Thanks FL for the cool yearly sale, and thanks to the Verbum team and Catholic FaithLife groups/message board folks for bringing the different Catholic tournament participants to everybody's attention.

Hi all,
Here's a quick update on how Verbum products fared in Logos March Madness 2018. It shows the discounts on each of the resources and provides links where you can read more about them. Hope that helps!

New Collegeville Bible Commentary (25 vols.) also shows 35 % off
$129.99 is still not a good deal since you can get the Hard Cover version for $64 or Kindle version for $52... Yes those prices are for the 1 volume edition which is identical to what faithlife sells since the 25 volume edition only difference is the printing of the NEW AMERICAN BIBLE in the commentary directly which FL has removed. I canceled my prepub of the NCBC due to this as I am sure Olivetree or Accordance will eventually offer the commentary from the one volume price point and not an artificially inflated valuation like FL is offering (to be fair contract may have been negotiated before the 1 volume was out, but unless they are willing to keep the NAB in there like the original commentaries had you can call it what you like it is still the 1 volume edition in function.

Hi all,
I could use some advice from everyone on a potential March Madness purchase. As for the Verbum resources, I already own Navarre Bible, Sacra Pagina, and Berit Olam. I do not own any of the New Collegeville Bible Commentary.
I also have the complete Word Bible Commentary, the New Testament books of the Anchor Yale Bible commentary, and a smattering of other commentaries from various Protestant series (mostly NT Pauline books due to my thesis that I wrote on St. Paul). I have several other books from the NICOT/NICNT, too.
For someone who is done with school for the moment and active in teaching in their parish, would you recommend spending money (~$600) to complete the Anchor Yale commentary (i.e. the OT volumes) or supplementing my Catholic commentary resources with a top-notch Protestant series by getting the NICOT/NICNT at the current great price? Or do you recommend just saving my money and getting neither?
All comments are welcome!

Stephen, I can only speak for myself ... I have AYB, WBC, Navarre, UBS, Black's, Berit Olam, Sacra Pagina, Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, Lexham Guides, JPS Tanakh, The Message (NT), For Everyone OT and NT, and a few others.
I am thinking seriously about Brazos and maybe the updated EBC. I'm not really interested in the New Collegeville Commentary only because of the current packaging and pricing. It's too much even at the discounted price.

Brazos truly is a most wonderful series, but I do think WBC has the most to offer of the things you inquired on. WBC is solidly orthodox in its treatment of scriptures and provides some of the finest scholarship you will find. I have seen numerous people decry it for being too liberal, but for me it is ideal a reverent treatment yet offering top scholarship. NIC is very good at times and is not a bad choice but I don’t normally find the depth that I find in WBC in the NIC.

If I were you, I would consider ACCS. The discount is excellent, the price is low, a number of the editors are Catholics, it covers whole Bible, and it draws from the Fathers.

That is a great suggestion. Thanks!
