Hi all,
Sorry for the slightly longer silence than anticipated, things did not get slower in February after launching the new German BPs as I had hoped. I have finally had a chance to get back to this project. But you don't really care about my workload, so here you go [;)]

THANKS!!![:)]

Alright, thanks so much Thomas! So now the process is that we need to pre-order it, so that with enough 'votes' you'll be making it into a Logos-suitable format, right?

P.S. I think the copyright information should be: "2010/2016".0 -
Many thanks!!! 😀 P.S. I think the copyright information should be: "2010/2016".

Dear Thomas,
I give you a rather lengthy reaction on your announcement.
I have serious doubts about Logos' marketing strategy concerning the publishing of the HSV Dutch Bible. I learned from the website and your answer in this forum, that you are promoting a kind of community pricing (gathering interest). IMHO that won't work and the HSV will not be published in short time, if ever. We have waited for a very, very long time, and have to wait for another long time!
I'm working at an university with a lot of students. Many of them own an academic version of Logos. They are interested in the HSV Bible and other Dutch Bibles, but I really doubt if they will ever pre-order the HSV. Simply because they like to have it now, and would not wait for whatever distant future in which the Bible is available - if ever! The very most of them aren't active user of this forum. They even don't know what community pricing is. Some of will use other Bible programs, in which that version is available.
In my opinion it would be better to choose another marketing strategy. Bring these Bibles to the Dutch market and do some real marketing. That will really work, you will create a market for your products.
In earlier times Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible was published in this manner together with 5 Dutch Bibles and things went very well. It was well accepted on the academic level. Sadly enough SESB was discontinued and an update of the WIVU resources was delayed for many years. Meanwhile, many students and teachers choose other Bible programs.
Please don't make the same mistake! Make HSV available in a short time. Surely your investments will be paid back.

I agree with Hans, Thomas; the HSV is becoming (if not already) the standard in The Netherlands, so there's no doubt your investment will pay off. Please do not put us in this lengthy process; I bet Hans would be able to give you an indication of an amount of students he knows who would already be willing to buy the HSV, let alone the rest of the people in The Netherlands.
Kind regards and hope to hear from you,
Roel

This is the first time that a product aimed at Logos customers in the Netherlands is put on pre-pub. I can understand that Logos wants to gauge interest in a resource but the HSV is a key resource in creating a Dutch customer base.

I am a Dutch theology student and I’m really happy Logos is thinking about adding the HSV. Sadly, I only have Paypal (no credit cards, like most Dutch students) so I won’t be able to pre-order or join in with pre pub And community pricing.
I think there’s definitely a market for the HSV, only because of the credit card requirement and the pre order idea, I am doubtful if most can even access that market. Dutch people are pretty spoiled with same day and next day delivery of online Purchases being the norm. paying and waiting for the HSV to arrive without knowing if it‘ll ever get made is not something people my age (millennials) will quickly want to do.
I think Logos is missing potential profits because of their pre pub system in this case. Anyway thanks for considering a HSV logos edition. I’ll be looking forward to it going live!

Indeed!
I made a pre-order regardless.
hopfully it wont get boged down by this.

Maybe there's a misunderstanding there. Neither in Community Pricing nor in PrePub you will be asked to pay beforehand. In fact you rather pre-register for the book than pre-buy, since you can cancel your order / your CP bid anytime you like. You will only have to pay when the resource actually ships (a reminder mail will arrive some two weeks prior).
Other than that, I can fully relate to wanting resources now instead of sometime in the future.
Have joy in the Lord!

I agree with this.
Thomas: please add this directly to the Logos portfolio instead of PrePub. This will not your game changer nor winner. You need first to create a dutch customer base using this - indeed key resource - HSV bible translation to win sales in the dutch language area. Not the other way around.
And: be aware that credit cards are not as common in NL as in USA. Growing a customer base in NL (Europe?) means also adding other ways of payment possibilities. Like PayPal, iDeal. (I think this is the same for D als well)

In fact, Logos offers PayPal payments for international customers exactly for this reason.
I understand this currently does not work for PrePubs, so in this case, either filling the Logos Book Cache or acquiring a free debit card would be a workaround.

Thank you for your correction. However, even if I don't have to pay beforehand, I still don't have the means (a credit card) to pay for them. I saw mentioned that you can use a free debit card or Logos Cache as a substitute. I will consider those. I think it's smart to have found a work around but I think maybe Logos should be the one offering me those options explicitly. Logos cache seems to have quite a few negative reviews, so I wouldn't go for that option immediately.

I'm also waiting for a long time for the HSV.
I now more people are really longing for the HSV.

Thanks, pre ordered.
Anyone from Logos how many pre orders we need for production?
I see the status "Gathering Interest" and "Almost There!" in pre-pub info.

It is unlikely that Logos wil disclose this kind of information.

We have not ruled out funding this resource, however before I am willing to commit to this there is still a couple questions that will have to be answered on our end (mostly around text files, etc.). I am hoping to hear back from Jongbloed on this soon and once we have that we will have better files that will allow us to make a better educated decision about this. As one of the people specifically tasked with shepherding new language products at Logos, I am as familiar with the chicken or egg question about resources in new languages as almost anybody and I share your frustration that often comes with the Pre-Pub process for a completely new language. We are working internally on ways to alleviate that as well and I am certain that across the strong Dutch advocates we have (both internally and externally) we will be able to find a solution for the HSV.

Thomas,
Any news on this. Looking forward to use this important translation directly in Logos instead of using third party programs and switching-to-and-back.
Hope to hear from you, soon.

Unfortunately no updates from my end, no. I am still waiting for the new files from Jongbloed, without which we can't move ahead on this.
Sorry!

If we can help in any way, Thomas, e.g. by e-mailing Jongbloed to increase the pressure on delivering the files, let us know. I've asked them previously and I bet if more of us will mail or call them, the process will go faster, I'm sure.

Please let us know if we can help. A lot of people are waiting for this translation.

what about asking for the files instead of waiting for them.....?
and: is there anything we can do on our end to speed up the process?

Sorry, I assumed it was implied that I had asked and was waiting for an answer. And no, since the person needed is on vacation(and this doesn't refer to my contact, but rather the originator of the files), so there is not much that can be done.

Alright, thank you Thomas for the update. [Y] Any chance this will get some more priority after the holidays? Would be highly appreciated. [:)]
