I can duplicate as well- does not bring up any of them- though i can create a new one and save it.

I just installed the update to beta 7 and now my sentence diagrams will not appear. The widow opens but the diagrams are blank
Confirmed. Ouch.

Yet another plug for a real backup and restore for user-data please Logos.
Online SYNC is NOT a backup!

So do we think these are gone for good then? I have many hours invested in them and would be very disappointed if that's the case.

No, I don't think they're gone, just not displaying. The fact that they show up in the file menu indicates they are still there. I (hope) think your data and mine is safe.Doug said:So do we think these are gone for good then? I have many hours invested in them and would be very disappointed if that's the case.
I do agree on the need for a local backup solution.

Unfortunately this is intentional. New sentence diagram features have caused the storage format to change. We released yesterday to fix one particular crash; however, some of the other changes intended for next week tagged along. When Melissa gets back from vacation and we release next week there should be better release notes.
For Libronix 3 documents you will need to reimport them. "Import delete Sentence Diagrams" and then reimport "Import Sentence Diagrams".

If this feature wasn't a beta feature we would have gone to great lengths to make sure that we upgraded the data each time we changed the format. In one way I am encouraged that people feel confident in using the Beta like it is an official release, but there is a reason we have http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8883.aspx at the top of the beta forum.
My apologies for any work you may have lost.

Without an import current diagrams capacity? Hmmm. Me no like.Todd White said:Unfortunately this is intentional. New sentence diagram features have caused the storage format to change. The developer working on this feature just informed me that the format released yesterday was not the final version either. He was hoping to make all of his format changes in one big shot for next week's release, but our hurried out release yesterday subverted that plan. If you create any diagrams in Beta 7 they will also be lost when Beta 8 is released.

I dont think the rest of the known universe uses the term "BETA" in the way we see here in this thread.
But I'm pleased that its now documented in simple terms.

Well since I have deleted L3 - I guess - I'm done- lost all my work on the book of Hebrews that took me 2 years to do- A WARNING WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY NICE THANK YOU.[:@]

Whyndell that's rough!
There is a warning in the beta forum (1st post). But I do know what you mean, a warning on this release. Yes.
Here's HOPE:
- Are you using Windows vista/windows 7?
- If so close L4 now.
- Navigate to the documents directory and find the diagrams item.
- C:\Users\tcblack\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\cldpfqem.1aj\Documents\SentenceDiagram\SentenceDiagram.db
- and SentenceDiagram.db-journal
- Right click the file and choose properties.
- Look for the "previous versions" tab and try restoring/backing up one of those.

Restore did not work- but I forgot I had not updated my other machine to 7 yet- I am going to try and move the files over and see what happens.

Disconnect it from the net first so sync doesn't kill you on the way.

Ok moving the files over has caused 4/7 to crash consistently- so don't do what i did [:D]
I have another machine with my SD's in tact so i'll wait to hear from Logos about updating.

Whew, that's a relief. I'm going to run a system backup now.Whyndell Grizzard said:I have another machine with my SD's in tact so i'll wait to hear from Logos about updating.

When they have this issue resolved will I be able to move my diagrams from 4.1 beta 6 to the new one?

Unfortunately no. Did you delete your 3.0 documents and not keep the originals? You can still reimport your 3.0 documents again. You can reimport even if 3.0 isn't installed, the files just need to be located in "My Documents\Libronix DLS\SentenceDiagrams" to import.

I know this is beta but it looks like any upgrades would be able to import diagrams from previous versions. That shouldn't have been too hard to program. I have lost hours of work. But it is still nice to know that L4 will have a good diagramer when it's finished.

No I did not keep a back of L3- so I will have to keep my one machine always at beta 6- this is very inconvenient- and I must say Logos's issue- to impliment something that actually destroys work by your users intentionally without a warning, is very, very disappionting.[:(]
If I did not literally have over 8k or more probably in my library- I would drop Logos right now.

Unforunately- I can't discuss this any longer- maybe in a few weeks.

uninstalling L3 does not remove your SD's they are in your Documents folder, so there may be hope...

We didn't realize people were importing several years of work and deleting the old data. We are going to see what we can do for the next beta about restoring your documents. It is possible that any documents you have opened with Beta 7 will be lost. Though, in your case you should be able to open them on your Beta 6 machine after you have upgraded it to Beta 8 on that machine.
Once again I apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we can make it right in the next beta.

our hurried out release
yup sums it up.. [;)]
Something like this needs communicated in the beta release message - I/we would have had opportunity at least to export any experiments, rather than having them vanish without a trace

thx for the heads up

Thankfully I have kept mine, but havent used L3 for 7months (in fact is not even installed on my laptop), I think a lot of folks will be in the same boat.. when 4.1 goes Gold I was planning to delete my old L3 folder also..

"Though, in your case you should be able to open them on your Beta 6 machine after you have upgraded it to Beta 8 on that machine."
That sounds a little more promising.
"Once again I apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we can make it right in the next beta."
Accepted.
Its not so much the actual diagram as the notes that accompany them.

Sure sounds like a source control problem to me as do some of the reversions to prior problems.

I have written an email to Bob P., to bring this thread to his attention.
My hope is that Logos will review the current attention to the protection of User-Data, even for the Beta versions.
