a mere 127 volumes http://www.logos.com/product/33665/fathers-of-the-church-series
Lack of cash frequently simplifies my shopping.
If I keep buying expensive prepubs instead of cheap packages it will soon simplify mine as well...
I'll never understand why so many people are willing to waste good money on payment plan fees For me, that would be a last-ditch desperation move.

For me, that would be a last-ditch desperation move.
I can understand it if you simply have to have something for class. Or if the discount is so deep and so unique that the fee is peanuts in comparison with what you save, like with the 2010 Christmas Bundle (2000 books, 2000 dollars). Or if you know you have money coming in a month or two and can pay it all off then. But generally I can't understand it at all. $60 a year is $300 in five years. You can buy a lot of books for $300.
That would be ideal. But we know about Logos's non-promising policy and why it's in place.
They rarely give as short notice as two weeks. They shouldn't use their shortest notice for their most expensive resources.

At least you can afford the cheap packages.

True. On the other hand, they want to push out as much as possible as soon as possible. And someone who does have the money sitting around would probably prefer the books in six weeks than in two months. Were I such a person, I certainly would.
Perhaps there is an alternative that would be as good for Logos as it would be for some its customers.
On the other hand, they want to push out as much as possible as soon as possible.
They don't produce 127 vols. in two weeks. They've known a long time that this was in the works. They just didn't inform us.
They've known a long time that this was in the works.
What they didn't know was the quality of the files the publisher sent them - clearly these were sent in a form that processed easily (assuming they pass user QA).
I'm a little bummed out ... I came to the conclusion last night that I am going to have to cancel my order. I'm not ready financially. And, unfortunately, the regular price is going to be too much. I'm thinking it's unlikely it will be this low again, even with some future discount which is likely to be a ways off.
[:(]
I'm not sure what the specific value proposition is for these resources versus the other, older translations of various works. ECF, summary works, other sets author specific.
Maybe someone could share their thinking.

They can't start tagging until they already have the files, and I can't imagine that they tag 127 vols. in two weeks. Especially as these must require quite a few new datatypes (at least if they want to "pass user QA").
I'm not certain on the value proposition, as I'm not a professional user of Logos. But it may be that Logos can help you regarding the big chunk of dough. Check your mailbox or contact Mark dot Wheeler at Verbum dot com.

(at least if they want to "pass user QA").Ahh, the user QA test: How did they do on similar tests before?
I was being facetious based upon the number of problems found in the first two weeks after delivery of some recent releases. There's been a release or two I'd call an alpha release ... not quite up to beta standards.[:)]

I would hope that Logos had the foresight to make preparations for "the complete" church fathers i.e. Migne prior to the Orthodox/Catholic push on patristic resources. Note I said "hope".

That's a good suggestion. I can't remember if I asked before if Logos would let me do a payment plan for a pre-ordered item. It's worth asking Mark.
One other question ....
Among the subsets; Ante Nicene, Nicene, Post, Augustine, Latin Fathers, Greek .... which do you think is the most valuable? (Not price, but perhaps referenced most by other church documents - Catechism, Encyclicals, Vatican docs, etc.)
Maybe I could do one subset now and add others later.
In general, western theology since Augustine has been footnotes to Augustine. OK, this may be a bit of an exaggeration, but a quick check of CCC shows that he is the most cited Ecclesiastical writer. Of course, Thomas is up there, but that is later.
This leaves aside the question of if you can properly understand Augustine without understanding what came before him... And, of course, your own interests...
St. Augustine gets mentioned the most of everybody out of the Fathers, and in the most diverse manners. There are certain Ante Nicene quotations that come up again and again everywhere. St. John Chrysostom, St. Ambrose of Milan, and the St. C's anecdotally seem the most quoted other Fathers.
The most valuable ECFs are quite possibly the ones you'll read. If you have the most interest in St. Augustine, pick St. Augustine. If in Sts. Irenaeus and Ignatius of Antioch, pick the Ante Nicene Fathers. Etc.
Is this what you are looking for?
Martin ... please don't think me overly dumb, but what are you asking for? You usually want LogosResource-refs. But you want a screen print? 27 books? Or a library listing? Just don't want you to think you're being ignored.
Not ignoring you - I couldn't afford them.
Well, there's dumb. And then there's excessively dumb! I was trying to clarify in hopes someone got the collection (I didn't; I'm too poor!).
I couldn't afford them.
And I cancelled. I'm too tired of constant errors to hand over that kind of money. They can fix their quality control first, then we can talk. Plus I'm also tired of financing prepubs that others can then buy in a package for a fraction of the cost I paid. I'll wait and see what Verbum 6 looks like before I decide.
Martin, why don't you wait for the next update and check for yourself? https://community.logos.com/forums/p/86009/603840.aspx#603840
It this what you want?
If someone would want to instruct me in a way to do a simple list I would be happy to do that.
I didn't get it either, to the surprise of no one.
It was 30% off on pre-pub and my academic discount is 24%, so even if I were to get the necessary money next month I wouldn't feel too bad about not having purchased it on pre-pub.
Old technology: click the Window button, use the cmd command to open the small window with the ms-dos box. Navigate to your Logos resources folder.
Type: dir/od >test.txt
This will give all files ordered by date into a textfile.
Open the textfile with an editor and cut out what is superfluous.
Here it is.
0815.foc.txt
There appears to be 125 files in the entire set (127 volumes).
Edit: I just prioritized this series and it shows as 125 volumes. ... product page says 127.
Hmm ... [^o)]
Thank you very much, Steve! Can you check if "Sermons, vol. 1 (1–80) by Saint Caesarius" (lls:srmnsvlm) contains vol. 2 (81–186) and vol. 3 (187–238)? Maybe that's way you got 125 vols. and not 127! Martin.
I checked. That's it. Thanks for the explanation.
Really ... you should run out and buy a lottery ticket right now...
Do the sermons appear in the sermon section?
I have checked a few so far, surprisingly not. Why not I wonder, brand new collection, not cheap, and all the advertising of the sermons capability? I don't know if Logos functions as a bunch of independent silos so this was not even on the drawing board to consider, or it's a bug, or what. It is disappointing though, I was looking forward to seeing more in that section.
Don, please report it as a resource tagging bug in a separate thread. It is likely a communication gap. A number of similar problems have been fixed quite quickly once Gabe was aware of them.
Will do.
Don,
can you check to see if you are able to acces the first two volumes in iOS format. The first is The Apostolic Fathers.
i have them on the desktop but not the iOS. Was hoping to read them in a reading plan while traveling this week.
I'm not sure I understand specifically how to check. Perhaps you can provide some steps for me to follow. Here is a screen shot with the table of contents expanded:
Does this help answer the question?

I am not sure which of the resources specifically you mean by the first two? I got them all downloaded at once. Let me know and I'll check!
You'll see I answered MJ above - what I did, do something like this. I did a search on Matthew 25, found a bunch of results in the resources (I tagged them all together, searched on the tag). So then, I did a Passage Guide on Matt 25. They did not come up. I tried this with multiple verses. Make sense?

don
the very first volume is called the apostolic fathers.
Make sense?
I put a screen shot on the bug report thread. I know I should get this, but I'm not seeing how it is supposed to work. I opened the Passage Guide, did a search on John 6. I don't see any "sermon" section. I guess that could mean:
1) I don't have any resources in my library that are "sermons",
2) I have resources that are "sermons" but they are not identified as sermons (software doesn't recognize),
3) There is no "sermon" section in the Passage Guide.
Can you post a screen shot of the Passage Guide that shows a Sermon Section? That would help me understand better.
Repeating from other thread - Logos has only tagged a few resources for sermons, thus far, but they are coming reasonable quickly,
The developers were ironing out some problems that were preventing a number of the volumes from appearing on mobile platforms. It looks like that didn't get solved by Friday afternoon. I will follow up first thing on Monday.
OK. Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me MJ and Don. I selected Sermons on my layout and experimented with Mt 25 and Jn 6.
No entries in the "sermon" section in this series.
I appreciate your patience. I feel like I'm a more intelligent user.
