A Basic search option for personal books is using a collection of Edition:User that will have search results in Your Books section. For example, can search for Love articles in personal books using syntax:

([field heading,largetext] Love)

Forum thread => Huge encyclopaedia: The Dictionary of Christianity and the Bible includes large personal book files.

I am in a hurry right now and am not able to post screen shots. Some quick thoughts:

• You should create a "collection" with the rule edition:user . That syntax will show you all and only your personal books.
• When you do a search, there are blue hyperlink buttons you can press. For example: Search ALL TEXT in ALL PASSAGES in PERSONAL BOOKS (where "personal books" is the name of the collection you just created). 
• For clarification: You earlier asked about searching for a "topic" or "word." If you type "Righteousness by Faith," you will get results for that EXACT phrase. To search for a topic would require different syntax (as the others have provided) AND would also require that you created the personal books with the syntax in mind.
