22.0 (22.0.23) is now available

The Logos Bible Software desktop application version 22.0 is now available to all users.
To immediately update to the current stable version, enter the Update Now command. Otherwise, the app will automatically update the next time it is scheduled to check for updates.
Updates to Versioning:
You might have been expecting this software update to be version 10.2, not version 22. We’ve changed the version numbering because soon, we’ll be making our latest software updates available to all customers, not just those using Logos 10. So although this version (v22) is only for Logos 10 customers, changing the version numbering now prepares us to make v23, due in February, available to all our users.

Wow. Lots of things addressed in this update, including one that was an issue for me (highlighting results of Bible search in the text).
Thank you for version 22.

I will also add my thank you for version 22 here (as in this other post). Great job!

Awesome, I particularly like this new feature:

- Will this February update be a BASIC version (like Logos 9 Basic) or will L23 include ALL current Logos 10 features?
- Will this L23 be a FREE update (like Logos 9 Basic) or will it be a paid product (which makes sense if all L10 features will be included?

All our software updates are free of charge. That isn't changing.
Consequently, updating to version 23 of the software won't give you access to all current Logos 10 features. Users who want all the L10 features will need to buy the full featureset or an equivalent subscription.

Shouldn't the forum structure also change, since there's no more "Logos 10 Desktop App", "Logos 10 Mobile App" etc?

Took me a while to work out what a "collection picker" was, but once I did, it's a great feature, as are the other search enhancements - thank you!

Manuel - Sorry for your troubles. [:s]
I understand you are having troubles with your mobile app on an android device. Is that correct? This thread and forum is intended for the desktop application (windows or Mac).
Unfortunately, I am not an android user and can't be of much help. HOwever, you should create a new thread in the mobile forum. Make sure to explain your issue clearly and provide details such as the type of device and OS version.

These forums appear to be out of order:
and I was surprised by the position of Files which is resource oriented rather than software oriented. Yes, I can force logic to position it with software but it more naturally fits as resource.

Will there still be a free Basic Feature Set though (which is a separate question from the free software updates)?

Can some of the older posts be archived so we don't have to search through so many posts to find an answer? Maybe anything before 2020 could be archived separately. Just a suggestion to make the Desktop forum more manageable. It's really frustrating searching through posts from 2010.
OR
Enhance the forum search functionality by giving us advanced search options to only search a certain date range (something we've needed anyway).

The Logos Desktop App forum only includes posts since L10 was launched in October.

The layouts seem to come much faster on the screens than before. I am using two large screens, with complex Logos layouts, and nowadays Logos seems to shoot the new layout very quickly.
I am happy with this progress. Is it using the GPU better than before, or what is going on?

We made some improvements in Logos 10.1 that could significantly speed up loading large layouts that had lots of visual filters. But I don't think there was anything additional in v22.

The whole program has gotten progressively faster for me from 10.0 to 10.1 to 22. Maybe others are experiencing the same thing. Just take credit Mark. lol [;)]

Now the same improvements must just be done to indexing. [:#]

- Actual indexing is faster as the Bible Index was removed. Updates with Bibles or Morphology resources is faster and a Rebuild is much faster.
- Did you mean that the multiple "indexing" that often occurs with successive updates could be improved?
- the Indexer can run for reasons other than indexing Library resources e.g. datasets, updates to Auto Complete
- if the Indexer is running don't restart for a software update until it is complete.

As long as it doesn't sacrifice the important features we have now. I don't frequent many forums. A couple are more "mobile friendly" than this one... but they would not adequatly suit the needs on this site.

I don't want to complain since I know that indexing is required. But it still sucks anyway. Especially on those days on which updates arrive, which happens during normal working hours here in Europe. And since the updates rarely all come at the same time, I usually get interrupted by the indexer two or three times, sometimes more.
I really wonder why the indexes can't be downloaded just like the resourced, any only be merged on the local computer.

Too many things are broken. The "existing features" are negligible in my opinion. There's no proper overview of "my threads". Forum search isn't working at all, but there's no warning about that. So unsuspectig users will just think that there are no search hits.

Jan, why don't you se the program to download updates only in a specific window of time, say midnight to 3 AM? It will then download overnight, index overnight, you start working in the morning and it's ready to go. You would have to leave the program running, but I have only restarted my program when required by a software update - it's been months since I shut it down, and it runs fine. Just a thought if that approach would be less painful for you.

The new version numbering is a bit confusing. I’m not sure why Logos didn’t stick with versioning the engine with 10.x releases, then simply continue to offer a difference between the free engine/Basic and the features that are included with L10 packages.
Moving forward, it’s going to be really confusing to say, “I have Logos 10, wait no, 23, wait…”.

One of the reasons is the nomenclature confuses people. The basic software engine (i.e. Logos 10.1) is really unrelated to the Library and Data Sets (i.e. "Logos 10."). There are still users, for example, running a "Logos 8" engine simply because they did not purchase a Logos 9 or 10 Library / Data Sets.

Think of it this way - Faithlife can save significant cost in support staff training by having all users on the same code which they will achieve by pushing (L23?) to all users who have not taken explicit action to stop it (e.g. machine doesn't meet minimum requirements for later version, no internet connection . . .). Users who have not purchased anything since L7 would be confused to suddenly be running L10 as long as the model for numbering kept the software and the resource packages tied together. So it was reasonable to change the version reference for either the resources or the software. They chose the latter. I am hoping that this will also lead to Logos & Verbum running the same code with the distinction existing only in the features level and allowing a third option for the liturgical Protestant churches.

I agree with Nathan about the confusion.
I think the confusion can be easily solved. Right now both 22 and 10 are Logos/Verbum "versions". So it's confusing to think / say / communicate that I'm running Logos 22 with Logos 10 packages / features.
If FL would consistently call 22 the "engine version number," that resolves the confusion. As in: I'm running Logos Engine 22 with Logos 10 packages / features.
The analogy is: I have an iPhone 11 running iOS 16. Or: I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 running Android 12.

The question I have is what if you are running Logos 9 on an OS that only supports it and not Logos 10? What does the new engine update mean for those users (even if they have updated to 10 already as I have for my more up-to-date machine).

If you have not purchased Logos 10, you cannot yet download ver 22. However, when ver 23 is released you will automatically be upgraded to it, if you have automatic update turned on.
