BUG: After each update, I get a blank icon on my taskbar
After each update, I get a blank icon on my taskbar. Is it the problem on Logos end, or with Windows 8. How do I fix the problem. I do not want manually delete and put back a shortcut after each update.

It's a windows issue... Let's see if I can remember how to say the solution... i think you need to "re-pin" the shortcut while Logos is running.
That's correct. I've not had this problem with Logos, but I get it sometimes with Evernote.

I have this same problem - found your post while searching for a solution. Is there a place to report this as a bug? I have to delete my pin and re-pin it every time Logos updates, which is frustrating.

I'm having this issue, too, & as best I recollect I've had it with MORE than just Logos updates.
In one L5 instance (W8.1), it wouldn't ALLOW me pin the L5 to the taskbar using windows processes. I had to navigate to the system folder, create a shortcut MANUALLY & drag the new shortcut to the taskbar. Since then, it's worked as others have described: unpin, then repin it.Grace & Peace,

I had a problem like this in Win7. Manually deleted iconcache.db ( = step three in this KB article ) and icon was rebuilt after restarting computer.

A windows issue? I am not sure about that. I just had an update on Logos5 to version 5.32.91 and repinned the icon to the taskbar and it still doesn't have the Logos5 icon on it. It is a generic icon. I have no logos-exe.ico file for the icon at all. After reading I see I am not the only one who is missing the installation file for that icon.

I just read your response. I was just reading on my Logos program and the update that was installed was 5.2 SR-3. (Win 7) Is this the update that should have fixed the blank icon? If it is, it didn't fix it. Still blank. I tried to repin it while I have the program opened, but soon as I close the program, back to a blank icon both in my taskbar and in my start menu. When the program is opened that blank icon changes to the Logos icon. When closed. it goes to blank. Is there any way I would be able to download the logos.exe.ico icon? It is the only program I have with no icon. Thanks.

I think you need to repin it while the program is closed. Unpin it from both the taskbar and your start menu. Then enter Logos into the "Search programs and files" box on your Start menu. When you see it listed under Programs, it should have an icon, and then you can repin it from there to both taskbar and start menu.
I'm still waiting to see whether this fix finally holds the next time Logos is updated. It's been reverting back to the blank icon for me on every update, and I have to go through this little routine every time. But they claim to have finally fixed the underlying problem, so I'm hopeful.

Well, what do you know. That gave me the icon when I unpinned from the taskbar and start menu, then found the program again in the list and pinned it to the taskbar. I will see how long this stays, but at least I can see the icon in the taskbar now. Thanks for replying!

I'm having the same problem today: the Logos icon has disappeared and been replaced by a generic Windows icon. When I unpin the icon from the taskbar (and the start menu) and then start Logos, the Logos program icon appears on the start menu (indicating a running program). But if I try to pin it to the start menu, it changes back to the generic icon. I've tried several various combinations of solutions as described in this thread, but the icon continually reverts back to the generic version. I'm running 5.2 SR-6 (5.2.0.0136) which, I believe, is the latest version. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Darcy

I've always found it better to pin it from the start menu, while Logos is closed.

This issue is NOT fixed in 5.2a RC2. Maybe it got fixed at one point, but if so it has regressed. The icon has gone back to a generic Windows icon every time I've updated Logos since I started interacting on this thread. And the latest time (from RC1 to RC2) I did an experiment and did NOT rename the icon, shortening its title to Logos 5 as I normally do. But still the problem recurred. I'm using Windows 7.
It's a pain to have to unpin and repin the icon every time I update Logos (which is quite frequent). Please get this fixed once and for all.

Thank you, Tommy. I thought there already was an active case for it, which was thought to have been fixed but wasn't actually. Isn't this the same problem others have been complaining about for many versions?

There is a case but it was closed. I referenced it in the case I made. I don't have the ability to reopen the original because I'm not in Dev or Testing. I made sure to point to this thread though.

OK. Thanks for the explanation.

Logos Bible Software has updated to 5.2a SR-2 (5.2.1.0098) and once again I need to unpin and repin the shortcut on my start menu to restore the icon. I am running Windows 7.

Maybe, just maybe, Logos could work around this for users by pointing the shortcut icon to a separate *.ico file. That way there will be no icon glitch when the program executable is updated.

Could you please upload the setup log files generated by the update that broke the link to the icon file? The DigitalLibraryInstall.log file may contain some clues. I haven't been able to reproduce this issue.
Thanks!

Logos Bible Software 5.2a SR-3 (5.2.1.0107)Lucky you. I updated to L 5.2a SR-3 and my icon did break, yet again. And this time I'd made sure not to do anything to it since last pinning it. I didn't rename it or drag it to a new location on the menu.
Here are my log files.

This should be fixed in 5.2b Beta 2. Previous cases were focusing on taskbar pin shortcuts, not the Start menu shortcuts. It's been a slippery issue. [:S]

That is exactly what mine still looks like. I have tried suggestions in this forum, but after the last update it went back to that non-labeled icon. I am looking forward to a fix for this as well.

This is still not fixed. I complained about it again after 6.0a RC-2: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/97045.aspx
Another user complained about it today: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/99964.aspx
