Resource View: Improve image viewing support

I would love to have an image-viewer similar to that found in other e-readers and bible apps where you can tap on any image to open a full-screen “zoomable” image.

I know that this functionality exists for a small set of resources, but it really needs to be universal. I can’t open maps or images from e.g. The Sacred Bridge to view them any more clearly, and a 5” phone screen doesn’t make it easy to read in the flow of the text. Even if that one resource is updated, though, there’s a good chance that I won’t think to use it if it isn’t a reliable feature that works across my resources. Similarly, getting media results in my guides or the factbook is just not useful to me if I can’t view the image comfortably or reliably.

In particular the multicolumn feature restricts maps and other images to the width of the column, often making a map unusable. My idea is to be able to click on the image and make it full size on the screen or perhaps even larger. If larger then the user can scroll around the map or image. When finished the user should be able to return to the book they are reading.

I would agree. zooming larger than the screen is often used on a phone to be able to pan around in a map for example.

Currently only the images in certain resources can be zoomed. This makes those that aren't hard to see, especially for maps and charts and other images with small labels.

When viewing on a phone, the maps of atlas resources are really small. We need the ability to zoom in on them or make them larger some how.

The thumbnails in the directory photos is really too small to be useful. If you could make the pics "clickable" it would be incredibly helpful.

Infinite zoom in and out 360 pan around available for maps and media across all platforms by click or tap.

Yes this may be a big project but it would sure be nice on a tiny cellphone. Pictures and maps on a phone become completely unusable otherwise.

    Especially for maps!
  • I find this very frustrating, both when viewing resources, and when reading books with images in them. I read on a small cell phone, and many texts in images are simply unreadable. Currently I resort to creating a screenshot on the phone and then zooming in in the image viewer (due to the high dpi of the phone screen, this actually helps). It would be really great if all images would be zoomable (as e.g. the Kindle app does).
