Generative AI Research and Writing Assistant for Logos

Logos Bible Software is a powerful tool for studying the Bible and related topics. It allows users to search, analyze, and compare thousands of resources, from commentaries and dictionaries to journals and sermons. However, sometimes users may need more help with synthesizing the information they find, or with writing their own papers and essays based on their research. That’s why I propose a new feature for Logos: a generative AI research and writing assistant.
A generative AI research and writing assistant would be a way of taking Logos’ already powerful search feature to the next level. It would use natural language processing and deep learning to generate summaries, outlines, paragraphs, or even entire papers based on the user’s query and preferences. Some of the potential uses of the tool are:
- Writing a summary of the book of Romans or any other book of the Bible
- Writing an outline of the arguments for and against the concept of free will, or any other theological topic
- Writing a paragraph explaining how Philo of Alexandria harmonized Jewish and Greek philosophy or any other philosophical topic
- Writing a conclusion for an essay on the similarities and differences between the Pharisees and the Sadducees in the second temple period or any other biblical issue
- Writing an introduction for an essay on the historical Jesus or any other biblical character
- Writing a thesis statement for a dissertation on eschatology, or any other area of interest
To generate these texts, the assistant would use its advanced search capabilities to find relevant information from your Logos resources. The assistant would then search the user’s Logos resources and generate a response that is accurate, coherent, and original.
The assistant would help the user with writing their own papers and essays, pulling information and citations from their Logos resources. The assistant could also format the generated text according to the user’s chosen style guide, such as MLA, APA, Chicago, or SBL. It would automatically insert citations and references from the user’s Logos resources, using the appropriate format and style. The user could customize the citation style according to their preferences.
The assistant would give users the choice to opt in to let it access and use their personal notes and research. This would enable the assistant to tailor its responses to the user’s specific needs and interests, as well as to avoid duplicating or contradicting what the user has already written. This feature would respect the user’s choice and privacy, as they can decide whether or not to share their personal notes with the AI.
The benefits of such a tool are manifold. It would save time and effort for users who need to do research and writing tasks. Besides enhancing the quality and creativity of their work, by providing them with new insights and perspectives from their Logos resources, it would also increase the value and usefulness of Logos as a comprehensive and integrated platform for biblical studies.
I hope that you will consider this feature request and vote for it if you find it useful. I believe that a generative AI research and writing assistant for Logos would be a valuable addition to the software and a great benefit to its users.

YES! Add Generative AI capabilities. You have license to a significant corpus that could be used to create a private token vectorstore database that you host and could be accessible within the applications via an API. I assume Logos has access to servers--even onsite--that could do this using an open source library like langchain (https://github.com/langchain-ai/langchain). See also: https://python.langchain.com/docs/use_cases/question_answering/.0

I totally agree with this proposition. AI integration will allow users to work smarter not harder.0

Absolutely. Google has created NotebookLM which allows you to ask questions of more than one resource at a time if you wish. With Notebook LM it can only answer questions found in the documents downloaded not on the internet. That type of capability would be an incredible resource within Logos.0

Absolutely! I think this would be one of the most valuable integrations into Logos. I currently use other AI models as a research assistant to find data and sources concerning topics I'm studying and organize it into usable information. An integrated AI within Logos would greatly increase my ability to utilize the resources I have available within my purchased packages. Using such an AI would benefit us in streamlining the ability to gather data, organize it, and synthesize it into outlines, papers, lessons, and sermons. An example of what I receive from other AI engines is attached; it is a portion of a table that contains key components of a biblical family dynamic, including scriptural references, theological resources, and psychological resources. To be able to perform this type of research within Logos with clickable links to the resources and the ability to directly import the output to a sermon document would be invaluable time-savings.0

This is a great idea. Sermon.ly has something like that currently, but it would be much better to have this feature within Logos since most of us use that everyday/week. I could imagine Logos' hangup is that they could only generate a sermon based on the books that a user owns so figuring out how to create that in the back end would be a major feat. However, it is part of the future to ministry so it will have to happen eventually to continue to stand out. The other issue I would assume is the pricing, this should be but probably won't be free because I assume it will cost them every time they utilize the technology generate these things. I was just on a zoom call with church.tech and it is INCREDIBLE what they are doing there.0

Dear Logos, it is only matter of time, and You are falling behind. Please integrate AI already0

Exceptional idea.0

I suppor this idea.
For those pressing for this to be implemented, I understand, but bear in mind that are privacy and licence concerns that will have to be addressed before Logos can actually integrate this feature.0 -
Search Result Summarization is available in the new Logos Pro subscription. You can view more about this feature here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/221561.aspx

Is "Search Result Summarization" the "done" of this? Not a critique; I am genuinely asking.0
