Notebooks fail to retain "properties" for new notes

When I set a notebook to have a certain icon image and color, new notes created within that notebook do not appear to inherit these properties automatically. Rather, new notes always conform to the style of the previously made note. If I go to the trouble to create properties for a Notebook, my intent is invaraibly to have new notes for this notebook inherit Notebook styles - that's the entire point of setting up properties for a notebook.
