The "feature" first came to the light in the 5.0a beta when we found it was responsible for crashes when scrolling in a couple of resources.
Thanks for clarifying. Had Logos flipped the switch for those users, or was it a software only related issue?

Nobody knew about the feature until the problem arose. The filter was subsequently withdrawn from those resources and Bibles.

It was in release notes of the beta and Gold release then turned on about two weeks later. People knew about it.

David,
Popular Highlights is not mentioned in the beta Release Notes and nobody knew about it until the problem was discovered in Beta 2. The only place it is mentioned is the RC1 Notes; as a bug fix for the problem discovered earlier.

Didn't know an RC wasn't considered beta even though it is not a final release. And apparently it has since been removed but it was also listed on the update release notes see thread http://community.logos.com/forums/t/60468.aspx where I was talking about them not showing up. Now we know it was because they had not been turned on. But people, myself being one, were aware they were coming and were anticipating them.

They were in the software before the 22 Nov, but weren't announced (please read my earlier post carefully).

Ok that is fine. I still contend that this whole thread has gotten ridiculous and silly. People are not forced to use anything. If they don't want the features turn them off, if they don't want to see them hide them.

I'm sorry, but I just can't keep silent anymore. I follow the forums for many of the applications that I use on a regular basis and Logos users are, without exception, the most whiny and grumpy of any userbase I've ever seen.
Mitchell! Blessings and Peace to you! I am very grateful for your post. Perhaps it will even do some good?? Actually, I think it will! *smile*
I'm sure you feel better for writing it and sharing it -- a delightful posstl, BTW! I certainly feel better this morning because of your post, as smiling I prepare to go out into my community and engage my fellow human beings in the geographical area in which God had placed me -- and to engage them with the love and compassion I have been learning from my Beautiful Saviour and His Holy Spirit for over 70 years! *smile* Mitchell, Always Joy in the Lord!

Is there a way to turn Popular Highlights "on and off" for all resources? I am talking about their display, not the gathering of information. I'm curious if the only way I can turn off the display of Popular Highlights is to turn them off one book at a time. It would seem to me that a master on/off switch would be far preferrable (and is actually what Amazon has).

The way to do that is described in the original post in this thread. -- Right click on the Popular Highlights item in the Visual Filters menu to get a menu to turn them off in all resources. This is the same method that is used for all Visual Filters.

I think that the number of times this question has been asked shows that the approach taken for this is not very intuitive and is therefore likely to generate lots of support calls! Given that reduced support calls is a Logos 4/5 design goal I would suggest that this approach misses that goal.

I agree. People don't expect menu items to have their own context menus. Some sort of sub-menu indicator would be helpful.

Perhaps it would be better located in Program Settings (Preferences for Mac users).

After I happily disabled the community highlighting 'forever and a day', I was in another resource and wanted to see if any highlighting. But then I couldn't turn it on? Or couldn't tell if it just didn't have highlights? Or what?
The Logos designers surely created some sort of user decision matrix/flow-chart before coding. Well, for me, it's gone anyway.

The visual filter is only shown for resources which have popular highlights so probably the resource you were trying doesn't have any.
Do you have "131 Christians everyone should know"?
There are community highlights in there - can you see the filter option?

Thanks this was really annoying!

Maybe we Logos users expect and demand more because we spent more time and money on products and services from Logos than any other software product ever produced ...
I for one wish to be able to TURN OFF the various cloud and sharing features, yet keep internet on for updates and the like.
In general, I turn off every possible feedback control I can find in any software I use. No reason - I just want to turn it off.

Then you may want to vote for Add an option that allows a user not to upload their personal data (notes, prayers) to Logos' servers.
