Workflow Editor Feature Suggestion - option to prepopulate answer fields

Currently, in the Workflow Editor, the Question/Answer element allows you to enter a Question.  Then, when the user enters a response in the Answer field, a new note is created with the user's response.

It would be useful to have the option of prepopulating the Answer field.

When a new workflow is created with it's associated notebook, some prepopulated notes would be automatically created.

Here are some use-cases:

1.  Prepopulating the Answer field with a title

  • This would be helpful when reviewing the answers in the notebook.  I add titles (bolded text at the beginning of each note) so I can quickly scan the note list and pick out the information I want to review.

2. Prepopulating the Answer field with a summary of the question

  • Again, this would be helpful when viewing answers in the notebook, where you cannot see the content of the Question field.

3.  Prepopulating the Answer field with a template.

  •  For example, I compile my sermons into a Logos Personal Book.  So during sermon preparation, I gather the information for the personal book "Sermon table" into a note.  I have now added this step into my sermon workflow. It would be nice to prepopulate that answer field with a template that I could fill in each week.

Eleanor, nice post and suggestions...I haven't spent much time yet using the Workflow but see how this could be very useful. Would love seeing your prep steps. Definitely would make things easier in finding information.

    Thanks for sharing.

How did you get a custom guide to create boxes like the two with the red brackets and find the link to embed in the circled example?

find the link to embed in the circled example?

Open the Passage Analysis Tool, click the three vertical dots and copy the URL

Then you can insert it using the link button in the Workflow Editor

THANK YOU!!!! I guess I had not noticed the scroll bar on the right side of the drop-down box so I did not know of any options below "Biblical Events"

I had cross referenced my custom textual workflow with the steps of the Expository Sermon workflow and the Passage Exegesis workflow so that I had to open 3 workflows to process a passage.

    THANKS AGAIN!!

For the link, I opened the passage analysis tool from the tools menu. Then I opened the menu in the tool and copied the location as a url.  In the work flow, I typed "Passage Analysis", highlighted it, selected the link button, and pasted in the url link.

I did that in a number of places in the workflow and it usually worked.  Occasionally something went wrong and I had to try it a few times, but I'm not sure why.

Eleanor, I'm considering adding your suggestion to my list of WF Editor suggestions. I'm wondering, however, if a couple of the existing suggestions may sufficiently cover your needs. I'd love to hear your opinion on the following:

    1.  Prepopulating the Answer field with a title

    • This would be helpful when reviewing the answers in the notebook.  I add titles (bolded text at the beginning of each note) so I can quickly scan the note list and pick out the information I want to review.

This might be sufficiently covered by 'Allow defining of Note Attributes', especially by the set tags and set note content type (not yet developed). Additionally, if you had a scheme for note icons and colors, these could be employed in helping to scan for the content you're interested in (we'll also be able to sort by note icon eventually).

    2. Prepopulating the Answer field with a summary of the question

    • Again, this would be helpful when viewing answers in the notebook, where you cannot see the content of the Question field.

This could be covered by "Display 'Question' text in note" which is currently at number 21 on my list but doesn't yet have a dedicated post. That suggestion was given here by Mark Barnes, and my response to it is the last post on the first page of that thread. I think it would be best to have the ability in the editor to choose whether or not the question text gets displayed on hover.

I don't currently have a suggestion that directly covers this. However, since there are plans to support exporting from the Notes Tool into the Sermon Editor and assuming Multiple Note SupportProject Name Field, and Allow Defining of Note Attributes get added, it might make more sense to request development of the sermon editor and/or the ability to export from there.

The note attributes would be helpful, but I'd still like to be able to insert default content at the top.  When I put a line of bolded text at the top of my note, I can see it previewed when I glance at the note list.

Yes, that suggestion would cover what I'm asking for in terms of having the question (optionally) available

The Sermon Editor is different than a sermon personal book.  A personal book allows me to have a logos-type resource with a compilation of the sermons I have preached over the years.  It is compiled from .docx documents and shows up in my library.

I realize that maybe not as many people build personal books anymore.  But I do think that allowing prepopulated template-type text could be useful in several contexts.  After all, whether it's for sermon preparation or devotional purposes, if we use a given workflow on a daily or weekly basis, it's quite likely that people will be entering very similar text into some Answer fields each time.

    For example:

    Passage Background information

    Author:

    Recipients:

    Setting:

    Date:

    "ACTS" Prayer

    Adoration:

    Confession:

    Thanksgiving:

Please do not re-design things so that PBBs become an "orphan".  They ARE the way that I do Sermons.

This happened years ago with "Hand-outs" They were "abandoned" and never improved upon.

    Thank you
