I'm not sure I have experienced anything broken. But I hate the new sermon editor. Everything is less efficient (in fact everything in this latest update makes things less efficient). Things take longer, the formatting takes up more space on the screen so you have to scroll more. I guess if the feedback is mostly positive from people then I'm the weird one, but I can't can't used to it. I dislike it so much to the point I wish logos had competition at this point because I'm almost done with it.
I use it all the time as well, and it is not working as it should or has in the past. Copying and pasting in it has erratic results. Line spacing is often very off, place many spaces in between lines, especially when using Copy Bible Verses tool. Highlighting a word or words to edit them and afterward clicking off of them selects several words around it, then next click off of them selects whole paragraph, then finally next click will do what it is supposed to do, Duplicating lines that you highlighted to edit when you never even clicked copy or paste. There are probably more that I am forgetting, but building a sermon now has become a chore.
I just did a quick perusal of the forums and not only is there no indication of what if anything is being done, there are actually reported issues that show the Sermon Editor is "brokener" than it has been. Logos folk…little update or hand-holding might be nice here. We use this for our life work you know.
Oh, my gosh Faithlife, this is so frustrating, please fix the sermon editor!!! I am tired of spending so much time writing a sermon and then coming back to refine it and just simply wanting to add an s to a word to make it plural, I put my cursor at the end of the word and type "s". But do I get an s, NO! I get the whole sentence pasted again right where my cursor is. To add insult to injury, you try to delete what it just pasted, NO! It won't delete. So you try to delete what you had already typed and leave the pasted portion, good, back on track now to add the s and go on, NO! Wrong again, after hitting s then space it turns into a comma. Try to backspace to delete, NO! the cursor just goes past that letter and leaves it. Try to highlight the word or words to delete that way, nope, wrong again. My goodness, what do I need to do to properly edit my sermon?
This needs to be priority one! This is not acceptable!
I use the Sermon editor to create slides for Proclaim, but recently, I've lost that functionality.
Here's my workflow. I create the sermon in MS Word (the sermon editor isn't robust enough to use stand alone for my purposes), copy and paste into the Sermon Editor, create slides for scriptures by clicking next to the scripture and clicking "add biblical reference" and then export to Proclaim.
Created slides used to be a rather simple, painless event. However, somehow they've deleted the ability to choose between content slides and biblical reference slides. As such, the slides do not export correctly.
Logos, please fix this! Because of the delete, I now have to create my Proclaim slides by hand, one at a time which takes forever.
Just drawing this thread to your attention.
I am having similar issues. When I paste anything into the editor, multiple spaces are added between each line. The auto verse (using Tab or Enter) gives varying results. Sometimes, the whole sermon will just go blank if I hit the tab before the verse turns blue. I have to close the window and reopen the sermon. I loved the editor up until just a few weeks ago.
We are busy investigating all of the issues raised in this thread.
If anyone else sees text that is duplicated or deleted while editing a sermon, we would like to hear your description. So far we are not able to duplicate this in-house.
Posting a video would also be very helpful. This can also be emailed to cs@logos.com, with a link to this thread.
I don't have a video at this time, but one hint is that most of mine has happened on text that was first copied and pasted into my sermon, like from my notes or from some commentary or book.
An easy way to reproduce is go to any Sermon Outline books in Logos, copy the numbered outline. If you post it straight into the sermon editor, it will be in a block and I don't want that so paste it in Wordpad, then copy it from Wordpad and paste it into Sermon Editor, Now it is a form I can work with. Now go to any of the numbered points and try to change the wording anywhere in the sentence and it will paste the whole line without you telling it to.
Sorry for all the posts, but I seem to be at least narrowing the copy and paste bug down.
If I copy a sermon outline and paste it to Wordpad, then copy and paste back into Sermon Editor, I get the bug every time.
But if I copy sermon outline and paste it into Microsoft Word, then copy and paste back into the Sermon Editor, I do not get the bug.
@Joey Midgett I am pretty sure you can bypass using a Word pad and recopy by pasting without formatting. On a Mac, which is what I use, you hold Command Shift V. You can also right-click and choose paste without formatting. I still find it is pasting with a lot of extra line spacing.
For the thread in general, I find the extra line spacing when using the copy bible verses widget and pasting it into the sermon editor, as well as when pasting from outside applications. I am using an M2 Mac mini.
The spell-check feature in the sermon builder is not great. Here is an example of a word that is only one letter off. It recognizes that the word is misspelled but will not give a correct answer; there is just an option to "add to the dictionary." Sometimes, if I keep right-clicking, after several times, It will offer a correct spelling; other times, I have to manually spell the word correctly, or if it's a word I am not sure how to spell, I keep changing letters until it decides to give me a suggestion.
Pasting without formatting does not work. It has the same bugs. In order for it not to happen, I HAVE to paste into Word and then back into Sermon Editor.
I did find another work-around:
If I post it to clippings document and then copy and paste into Sermon Editor, it does the same as pasting into Word then back into Sermon Editor.
To be honest, I am almost at the point of switching to Microsoft Word until these things are fixed. I am a preacher that works a full time job and sometimes a second job, which is why many times I need the help of Sermon Outlines to make my sermon building quicker. Don't get me wrong, I still put in many hours of study and prep, but some weeks I have less time than I'd like.
And the unreliability of this program to manage and edit my sermons, from copy and pasting into it to simply using the Copy Bible Verses and it not formatting the way it is supposed to or used to, and the crazy things that happen to the text as I try editing my sermons, I have to spend all the time I gained by using the help of Sermon Outlines by trying to safeguard my sermon from being deleted and changed in ways I do not want.
I used to have an all-in-one software for Bible study and sermon prep and writing. Now, that is not true.
I do hope and pray this gets fixed and fast. I would much rather have the old Sermon Editor back even without any AI Assistant.
What if you implemented a legacy Sermon Editor like the old one, before all the fancy features, alongside of the new one with all the bells and whistles?
@Joe McCune (Faithlife) Yea! Thank you!

This was not fixed. At least not when copying from Copy Bible Verses.
Also, the bug of copying and pasting from sermon outlines into sermon editor still giving several bugs such as the pasting the same line when trying to edit a line.
This is still so frustrating.
Don't get me wrong I thank God for some of the features added, ie. Smart Bible Search. But to not have a working Sermon Editor is such a blow for this all-in-one Bible software.
Every Sunday morning I get more and more frustrated.
I try to paste my sermon from Word to Sermon Editor and I get a jumbled mess.
It is completely useless.
This has been going on for weeks, and it doesn't seem like anything is being done.
I have used Logos for over 20 years and never had problems like this.
Can someone assure me this is being addressed?
Thanks!
What happened to the icon that would create a slide for any reference that was found within a body of selected text? That saved a lot of time! I could selected several paragraphs (or a whole document that I had pasted in) and click the icon and in seconds slides were created for all the references. Why would you take that away? Please bring it back.
@J. Gary Ellison I don't know about an icon… don't remember one. But the way I do what you want is to highlight the text I want to make a slide of and the click the (Normal V ) in the menu bar at the top left… which gives a drop down of the Slide Headings and I choose one I want.
Hope this helps. 😎

This icon will be returned in v41 or v42.
@Skycaptain50 - Have you tried importing, rather than pasting your Word document? Steps are:
I know this doesn't fix the problem, but it is a workaround that would reduce frustration until there is a fix.
