Shortcut for opening documents - jump menus

The above is an example of a jump menu taken from the taskbar icon for Word. It is available via a right-click instead of the more common context menu. As you can see, it allows me to open the app and load a particular document in the same click. As a general class, jump menus allow one to jump to documents or tasks.

I would like to see the Document menu opened via the toolbar modified to (supplemented to add):

Show the document type icon beside the document type in the left faceted selection
Have that icon open a jump menu for that type of document.

If well received, the concept could spread to other areas of the program where one can open a function through history. The jump menu mechanism is simply a specialized history implemented for quick access.

You don't state what the RHS should provide e.g. it is extremely useful to delete recent documents, and I don;t see the need for change.

A Jump List is limited to some recent docs but the current format provides that for all docs. It seems superfluous to provide both facilities with an extra icon and sub-menu.

I am not suggesting any change to the current behavior. I am suggesting a Microsoft standard additional function to increase efficiency.

Jump lists are a standard Microsoft feature that cuts down the number of clicks it takes to get to a document open in the appropriate tool. It is not intended to provide new functionality, merely more convenient access to the functionality. It is essentially invisible to those who don't need it i.e. are rarely reopening recent documents or who always accurately the precise names of their documents.
