Indexer CRASH after most recent resource update

Indexer crashes when trying to merge indexes after the most recent resource update. These were the resources that I received:
And here's the logs:

We believe that this problem is related to the updated HCSB file. The following procedure should work around the crash (while we continue to debug it):
- Delete the HCSB.logos4 resource file
- Run Logos 4. The indexer will start automatically and will crash shortly after startup.
- Enter "update resources". It will find and download the older version of the HCSB.
- Close and restart Logos 4 when prompted to install new resources.
- The indexer will start automatically (again) and will crash (again).
- Enter "rebuild bible index".

There seem to be two issues people are dealing with
1. Error ID: 2318
Error detail: InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.2. Error ID: 6223
Error detail: IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.I have the latter problem, maybe the others are all using the beta version...

The fix or work around isn't working here either. I got to about twenty something per cent and down she went again. Are we to wait till next week for a genuine fix for this, or do the boys work on the weekends also? :-)

It apears that I have 1. Error ID: 2318 (from the crash log file; see http://community.logos.com/forums/p/32070/238733.aspx#238733 for post).
In the FYI catagory for those trying to trouble shoot this:
- I followed the instructioin in this post to get around the resource problem.
- I do not have the beta version. At the moment I am at 33% and indexing is still going.

Bradley's fix is fine except that you lose the HCSB resource. I tried this on the mac and pc and the HCSB resource is NOT being replaced. THAT is very disconcerting. I am now trying to put the hcsb file back in and reindexing.

Hi Michael,
I have the HCSB after running Bradley's fix on my Mac. After deleting the corrupted HCSB file, my system was updated with the previous file (I could have very well retrieved it from Time Machine). I then ran "Rebuild Bible Index" (took about 2 hours) - everything is fine now.

I am trying it now from my time machine file, the updater didn't install it (on two machines no less) and I think the updater is now messed up. I really am completely annoyed with this. I have the feeling I am going to have to do complete reinstall to get this back to where it was. [:(] Not happy....

Please be patient and try the workaround, or wait until the resource is fixed.

Bradley, I have done these steps twice and even without the older version of the HCSB.. and the index gets to 99% and then fails. I'll keep at it, but wanted to make you aware.

My PC is finally ok--not sure how I managed to get it functional save God's grace. My Mac still doesn't see the HCSB file. What file needs to get ditched so that it rebuilds recognition of the resource?

I just realized the same for my pc. I followed all the steps and it found some resource to download but there is no hcbs file anywhere???

Hi. I mostly use my iPad now, and only boot my PC laptop from time to time. I have a number of new resources to download on account of the Facebook specials. Does anyone know if it will be OK if I hide HCSB first, and leave it hidden until a later date when the issues are resolved? If that works, its a clean solution for anyone that can do without that one resource for a few days or so, until a resource fix or next Beta is released. (I really don't want to have to mess around with crashes and indexes this weekend, if at all possible.)

Mine roared through to 100% last evening so all seems like it's working alright. Do any of the Techs work on Saturdays or are they like the *rest* of us - wanting the weekends off too?

Logos is closed on the weekends and I've not personally experience the techs working on the weekend so I think if its the weekend your best tech support option is to see if anyone of the forum can help.

It's in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\<Random>\ResourceManager\Resources
The AppData folder is hidden so you will need to enable hidden file and folder viewing in your Folder options to navigate there

[Did not notice that this is all posted under the PC Beta section - I am NOT running the Beta, I am on Windows 7]
I ran through the steps outlined by Bradley, and am still getting crashes.
The crash log is reporting the "Index was outside the bounds of the array" error as noted earlier.

Bradley, I had the same experience as Matt...got to 99% and crashed after doing it twice. I'm not going to do it again. Thanks for trying to help, though.

I had the same problem and I was able to get the HCSB back by using the Scan command. I retrieved an old version of HCSB from a backup and put it in a folder and then issued the cammand "Scan Folder". Substitute the path for the name Folder (wherever you happen to put it- don't use quotes). Then I restarted L4 and it was back again.

I haven't been able to get the HCSB back in two days. Not a huge deal, but irritating.
I've tried update resources, rebuild index, and the scan command....no dice.

I got it (HCSB) back but with the same problem when I deleted it...the indexer crashes shortly after starting L4. I've cycled right back to where I started after trying the fix suggested...it didn't work for me. To say the least, like so many of you I'm totally frustrated and disappointed in L4 for the presence of this situation. I guess I'm relegated to waiting of the developers at Logos to fix it. Disappointing, indeed.

Yeah, the HCSB comes back, but so does the indexer crashes. What a disaster!!!

Can you please provide a crash file (or preferably, log files) for this problem? Based on the description, it may be a different issue; the work around I posted was for crashing almost immediately after startup, not after reaching 99% during indexing.

Well, I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with a "crash log." I didn't get any kind of error message, just a crash or a stoppage in indexing.

Please enable logging by following all the instructions in the link below. Run Logos and let the indexer run until it crashes. Do not restart Logos before posting all logs here for review (see link below for how to upload logs).

OK gang here's my latest strategy. I went back to the last update in Time Machine before the Friday oops one. Dragged that folder from the library to my Desktop. Yanked the one out of my current library folder and deleted it and replaced it with the older one. Turned off the automatic update and restarted it. I'm reindexing it now since I don't keep the index folder contents. The library shows HCSB, so I think that will be enough until the smoke clears.
Simple kluge.
Dev folks: If you have a problematic update, why not just yank it off the update server until you get the problems sorted out. It just messes up a lot more customers' setups when it's left out to spread to more people.
Hopefully they will get this sorted out by Monday .

The update was already pulled around 3pm yesterday. (I may have forgotten to announce that at the time; sorry for the confusion.)

This is the first time I've had consistent crashes in Logos 4. It looks as though I can open resources from the library, but if I put a reference into the passage box on the home page it starts to open the resources for passage study then crashes. I've followed the instructions in these postings, but no help.

Look at the instructions in my post above, and generate some logs and post them here. Be sure to follow all the directions carefully, post all the logs after the crash and before restarting Logos after the crash (the logs are overwritten each time Logos starts). By posting the logs we may be able to tell what's going on and suggest a potential fix, or it could expose something that the dev's need to see to create an update/fix for the issue.

So maybe I should just PASS on the update until, say, Monday evening?

That's what I'm doing even though the suspect HCSB file has been pulled from the server. I'm away from home and can't afford the time or effort to fix a broken application (took time to kill the download and set Autodownload Updates to NO).

Fortunately Logos was already running when the update became available. When I denied the option to download the update Logos "automatically" changed "automatically download updates" to "no".

Here is the crash file.
Hi Tom,
I'm not sure what's causing this crash, but it's related to the library index (and may be unrelated to the HCSB update). Unfortunately, I don't have a quick workaround, but you should be able to avoid the problem by rebuilding your index.
- Run Logos 4, holding down the CTRL key as you start the program.
- The sign in dialog should appear. At the bottom, there will be a checkbox labelled "Use blank layout"; make sure that is checked.
- Click "Sign In".
- In the command box (at the top of the Logos 4 window), enter "rebuild library index"
- Wait until reindexing is complete; you will be unable to search the library during this time.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'd like to be able to find out more about this problem (to make sure it's solved properly), but since the library index files can be several GB, it's usually impractical to transfer them to another computer for analysis.

After further thought, it seems likely that this is actually related to the HCSB problem. My best guess is that you have already run "rebuild library index" (or "rebuild index") while still having the "bad" HCSB resource installed. Indexing will appear to complete successfully, but the program is likely to crash when searching that index.
We plan to release a program update that will detect this situation and correct it automatically; until then, the only way to work around it is to remove the HCSB (e.g., by deleting the resource file), then run "rebuild library index".

Hello,
Is LOGO'S going to fix this issue so those of us who are not tech minded don't have to figure the workaround?
Thank you!

Hi Bill,
It appears that the HCSB has ended up in your main library index, too. Please run "rebuild library index" (and then wait...) to fix it. (The Bible index should now be good.)

Yes; we plan to release a program update soon to 1) fix the bug that causes the crash, and 2) detect indexes that could cause problems in the future and rebuild them automatically.
