i think the reason the ribbon tab doesn't show is that the ribbon customizations possible in W 2010 don't automatically attach to the template,

    Robert,

check the post above your last post. There is a Ribbon import file which should bring in my custom Ribbon.

I tried putting it in my template folder, but I couldn't access it. I tried opening it, and the first time I did a little rectangular box appeared with buttons (I can't remember what they said, but they were Bible related), but they didn't do anything. I can't get the box to reappear. Too bad.

    Bama,

i am not sure what the Mac Word UI looks like, but if it is similar to Word 2007 or 2010 then you can get to the macros without the Ribbon buttons. It does take a couple of extra mouse clicks though.

    image

    1. Click on the View tab

    2. Click on Macros and in the drop down menu click on View Macros.

    3. Then you will see this pop-up macro window.

    4. These are the macros that i have built for PBs. Just select the one that you want to run.

    5. Then click the Run button. (before doing these you should have placed your cursor where you want the PB tagging to appear)

If your interface is more like the older versions of Word, then let me know. i also have Word 2003 which is menu driven and not tab driven. i then can give instructions on how to run the macros from it.

EDIT:  never-mind all the blather about VBA; I'll try the import procedure you posted while I was composing. Thanks.

Did the Import file work for you Robert?

If so, do the macro buttons Run the macros?

    Steve:

Yes, the import file works, but it kills my Quick Access Toolbar buttons. I had made copies of both the QAT file ("Word.officeUI" in W 2010) and the ribbon customization file ("Word14.customUI" in W 2010). I thought I could use the import to get your ribbon stuff and then restore my QAT file, but when I did, it then killed your ribbon stuff. Apparently the QAT and the ribbon customizations are joined at the hip.

While I still had your buttons, I tried the Bible Milestone, and it worked. Thanks.

    Hi Steve,

Yes this gets it on to the ribbon now!  However, I must warn folks that doing it through an Import will delete any and all Ribbon and Quick Access customizations a user has in place with Word.  If people are using Word just for Personal Book building this is not an issue, but for anyone using Word for other activities or work this may be problematic.

Note this is a bug with Word 2010 and Importing Ribbon customizations, I don't think there is a workaround for this using the Import approach.

I'll do some looking around too, to see if I can find a more installation-friendly approach.  The macros look very very useful!

I think the best we can do is a workaround, but I have played with this and it works pretty well.

    1. For those that have already customized their ribbon or Quick Access toolbar, first right click on the ribbon and select "Customize Ribbon".

    2. Click Import/Export button

    3. Select Export All customizations. Give it a name like "Original customizations"

    4. Click Import/Export button, select Import Customization file. Find Steve's "Word Customizations.exportedUI" file, and select it.  You have now replaced your ribbon and Quick Access with Steve's support for Personal Books.

< Do your Personal Book work here >

    5. When finished - Click Import/Export button, select Import Customization File. Select the file you saved in Step 3

Now Ribbon and Quick Access toolbar are restored!

Nice job Steve on the PB customizations!
