Attached is a small .docx file from Mike Aubrey's listing of classical Greek and Latin authors found here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/39030.aspx

It can be compiled into a Personal Book for use along with the Perseus Collection.

Thanks, Mark. It would be awesome to have this actually be an index linked to the works by those authors in the Perseus collection someday. Hint, hint. [:)]

    Hint, hint.

Yes. Maybe Mike, who did the work on this list, would like to do that. [;)]

I simply detest the use of BCE and CE. History is split because of Jesus...not because the common era started.

A simple text find and replace will do the trick for you, then.

I also prefer BC and AD.

Oh I could, in that I know how. But I don't have time.

I share your feelings. However, it isn't before and after Jesus -- which would be at least somewhat less controversial -- it's before and after Christ (at least in Swedish it is; in English it's even more complicated). And although most people today -- probably including most Christians -- tend to think of Christ as just a name, it isn't. It's a translation of Messiah, which means that saying that something happened x years before Christ is essentially to profess that it happened x years before the Messiah arrived. And it wouldn't be very reasonable to expect Jewish writers to happily make such professions... I'm also not sure if it's entirely wise to make secular Christians and non-Christian believers go on making claims they don't actually believe in. It devaluates the meaning of words, at a time when I think we need more than ever to make words mean something.

So while I personally will go on using BC and AD and the Old Testament -- and would object if anyone tried to force me into using BCE and CE and the Hebrew Bible -- my brain tells me that the world shouldn't be ruled according to my feelings. [:P]

Someone could start a Reading List index, like MJ did for the Fathers, and those who most want it can work on it together. That way one person doesn't have to do all the work. And then when it's done, it can be made into a PB.

(And, no, I am not "someone" in this case. I do not know how to start a new Wiki page, I do not have the time, and I do not have enough interest. Sorry. [:)] )

I thought I would do this, but first I would put the authors in some chronological order in the relation between Greek and Latin authors.  After I started, however, I realized that it would also be necessary to allow a column for their works if there was to be linkage to the resources.  This will be a much more demanding task than I originally anticipated.  Perhaps I'll do it some day, but for now I don't have time.

I also started to do it but realized that the way I set up collections it was unnecessary for me and I have higher priorities.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Rosie, please give a sample for one or two authors. Might be a project that I would not mind tackling over a period of time. This way I get to develop my skills, and make a contribution to the community.

As an author is complete, I could then post the file. Someone else may choose to take several Latin authors say from year 52 - 48 BC and someone else may take another group.

At the end we could have an editor and who compiles the entire thing. Similar to the composition of the Net Bible.

    Lets go for it.

Someone tell me why my sub headings are not working? Heading 1 is ok, but in the table of contents that is it. Could it be Microsoft trial or starter edition which the document is typed in.

I don't know. I myself have had trouble getting milestones and links within headings to work. It looks to me like you've set it up correctly, but I'm not a PB expert. At least the links do work, but the PB compiler seems to be ignoring the Heading 2 style. It might be a bug in the PB compiler. Someone else who is more of a PB expert should take a look at this.
