What does it take to get a new resource added to Logos?
A while back I wrote and suggested the addition of some Swahili Bibles. I realize there's probably not much demand for this but I thought it was worth a shot. My question is about the work involved to make a resource ready for Logos. How much work does it take? A person working full time for a week... a month? Probably depends on the length of the resource.
If it's not too complicated I would be willing to volunteer some of that work. The resource means enough to me and would be useful for some of my coworkers. There are two free Swahili versions in Youversion so would copyright be hard to work out?
Anyhow, just seeing how hard it would be and if there's anything I can do about it.

You could do it as a Personal Book. Ask Tes (Ghebreab Tesfai), who posts around here regularly, about how much work it's been for him. He's working on an Amharic Bible. I did a New Testament in English that is not in the public domain yet, so I wasn't able to share it with folks, but I've got it for my own use. You'd have to contact the YouVersion people to find out if you'd have permission to use the texts they've got up on their website. If you get permission to do that, you can just copy/paste your heart out for as long as it takes to get all the text into a Word document. Then you need to do some tagging to turn it into a Bible that Logos recognizes as such, so that you can go to a particular Reference by typing in the Reference box, and so that Bible Searches will work to find text in it. Here's a brief excerpt of what the Bible text looks like for the NT I did (The New Testament in Modern English, J.B. Phillips' translation). If you know anything about using Macros in Word, that can speed up the work a bit.
He explains the joy and strength of the new order
[[@Bible:Matthew 9:14]]9:14

John's disciples approached him with the question, "Why is it that we and
the Pharisees observe the fasts, but your disciples do nothing of the
kind?"{{field-off:Bible}}[[@Bible:Matthew 9:15]]9:15
- {{field-on:Bible}}"Can you expect wedding-guests to mourn while they

Thanks! I'll look into that.

Also depends a bit on verse markings in source document. I became adept at using Word 2010 advanced search and replace => American Standard Version 1901 - Personal Bible without Chapter and Verse #'s over three weeks. An advanced search for verse 1 in a chapter could look like:
(??bible-on[\}]{2})(??[\@]BibleKJV:[A-Z][a-z]{1,2}[0-9]{1,2})(:1[\]]{2})
Other issue is Bible verse mapping (and datatype). Thanks to Mark Barnes, wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Bible_Verse_Maps

If you can get hold of a Swahili bible in a database or XML format, and get permission for redistribution, I'd be happy to convert that to a PBB for you (I'd write an automated script to do so).
This site might be a good one to ask: http://wordproject.org/sw/index.htm

How much work is it for you to do a PB Bible? I'm thinking of older Swedish Bibles. The one I'm most interested in only has files for 3 books right now, so that's not worth spending time on, but there is one or two others that have electronic files in several formats. However, I'm certainly not going to use them enough to justify more than a very tiny amount of your time. They're just 'fun to have' resources, and sooner or later some Swede will do them anyway. So unless you have the process very much automated already, I'm not even going to ask.

The scripts are written already. I've used them to prepare the Tyndale Bible and the 1909 Reina Valera. The time required would be to import any existing electronic format into the format required by my scripts (plus a little bit of internationalisation). So it really depends on the input format. Database files and XML files should be relatively straightforward. It could be as little as 30 minutes. It could be as much as 4-6 hours.
I have a 1917 Swedish translation on my system already, but (a) I don't know what version it is, and (b) I don't know what the copyright status is (although I'm told it's public domain). I got it from http://www.unboundbible.org/ if you want to identify it for me, and let me know if it would be useful.

I wasn't thinking about 1917, since that's sold by libronix.se and I've already got it (it should be PD, though). I was thinking more of Karl XII's Bible, 1873 edition, which seems to have whole lot of file formats to choose from online. So far I've found this site with several versions, plus the Sword Project, Accordance Exchange and YouVersion.
I haven't taken the time to look closely at any of them, however, since I don't know what's useful for you. The ones I've opened haven't included the Apocrypha, which I believe ought to be there, but that's not a deal breaker. I also noticed one file had the åäö's messed up, so if that should happen to be the best one for you, I need to do a global find-and-replace on it first (or afterwards, I guess). I should also check out the verse map for you, so that you at least don't have to waste time on that. It ought to be either bibel82 or bl2000. I've noted down where they differ, but I haven't checked against the text yet.
If you're willing, take a look at those links and tell me if any of them is of a kind you could do quickly (I'm not going to ask you to spend 4-6 hours on it! Even if you should have that kind of time, it would be much better spent on a new video. [;)]). And don't do anything until I've looked closer at the file you prefer.

The 1873 text file ought to be convertible. Although it's not a database, it's only a question of reading each line in one by one. The first 'word' is the Bible book, the second is the reference, the rest of the line is the verse. Don't worry about the accented characters. I can fix that in two clicks.
This is the URL: http://web.mac.com/onlinebible/Downloads/BibleWorks/SWE_1873.txt
And this is what it looks like after the character conversion:
Gen 1:1 I begynnelsen skapade Gud Himmel och Jord.
Gen 1:2 Och jorden var öde och tom, och mörker var på djupet, och Guds Ande sväfde öfver vattnet.
Gen 1:3 Och Gud sade: Varde Ljus, och det vardt Ljus. One thing you could do that would be a real help, would be to upload a CSV or Excel file containing a list of the 66 OT and NT books in Swedish, in canonical order, with one book name in each row. You might have to zip the file to get it to upload.

Sure. I probably won't have time tomorrow, but I'll look at it later this week. Note, the abbreviations used in that file are not Swedish, they're English. Apart from looking 'wrong', they presumably won't compile in a Bible set to lang:swedish, so they'll need to be replaced, unfortunately. However, if this pdf is correct (and I'll try to locate a scan later to make sure), there shouldn't be any abbreviations there at all, just verse numbers, which saves me the trouble of typing in a list of old Bible abbreviations (the new ones I can always copy and paste from somewhere, but the old ones might be different).
Is this adding more work, or is it all the same to you if the existing reference, the label, and the new reference are all different?
Also, that file is just a list of verses. Presumably there 'should' be book and chapter headings like in the pdf above. I'm certainly not asking you to insert those chapter 'titles' when they've been left out of the file, but the headings would be nice if you don't have to change your scripts too much. Though I can certainly do it myself later if necessary.
Given all this, how exactly do you want the list to look? You'll need modern Swedish abbreviations for the compilation, and you'll need the old version of the full name if you are to add headings. And obviously you'll need the old Swedish abbreviations (if different) for the surface, if it turns out that there are such in the original, which seems less likely right now. I presume you'll also want the existing English abbreviations in one column? Do you need the modern Swedish full name as well? Any particular order you want the columns in?

Having the English Bible book name in the file actually makes it easier for me. As long at the list follows the typical order of English Bibles, literally all I need is the full name of each Bible book in modern Swedish (plus the Swedish word for 'Chapter'). My script will produce a PB formatted like the Tyndale Bible, with one chapter per paragraph, and will use the Swedish book names you send me. There'll be no headings (other than chapter headings) or other paragraphs.

A test version of this PB version is attached. It needs to be compiled in English at the moment (simply because I don't have the Swedish book names). If there's anything obviously wrong, please let me know. I'll update it with Swedish names when you're able to send them.
The correct datatype was bibel82. bl2000 had three verses missing: Song of Songs 5:17, Zech 4:6,10 - it was nice to be able to use my Wiki page for something useful! http://wiki.logos.com/Bible_Verse_Maps

Mark, could you take a look at this thread, where Rosie mentioned that you might be able to help with creating another non-English Bible PBB?

Mark, I'm terribly sorry I haven't gotten back to you until now. I've had a really bad week and a half, which weren't exactly made better (or cheaper...) by a broken tooth and a car that wouldn't start. And for a day or two the keyboard wouldn't function properly either. So I'm even further behind than usual with everything.
Thank you so much for your work. It looks good as far as I've looked. Since you specifically asked for the modern Swedish Bible book names, I presume you need them for some reason I can't figure out, so I put them in the first column of the file below. However, if it's all the same to you, I would much prefer if the visible names were the original ones, so I put those in a second column. If it's not the same, just do what's easiest for you.

That doesn't matter. It is probably a similar amount of work whether you're doing a Bible in French or Latin or Amharic or Swahili. I was just thinking maybe you had an estimate for him of how much time it takes to do the work; I was not suggesting that you help him with the work. So it doesn't matter that it's a different language. The point is, there's a lot of work to get it into a Logos resource, regardless of what language it is.

Not so. At almost 39 I'm older than dust and I remember it as either Liger or Niger.

Google has more hits for the Niger version as well, though it seems that some people claim it doesn't even rhyme due to the different g-sound.
To get back within the forumk bounds, what's the best resource in Logos detailing the text-critical "lectio difficultor" rule?

In this case, I think it might be lectio probabilior. I know of no country named "Liger."
