During the night I received an email from vyrso about special deals, including Quilt of Faith, but no other freebie, past or present.  Naturally the freebie offer on quilt of faith had expired.  i had got it anyway, but no thanks to vyrso's information!  I've just unsubscribed from their notifications, mentioning that I appreciate their freebies but not the way their sales department works, and that they might win more customer goodwill if they consult with Logos sales department.  I subscribed to their emails as I thought they would give helpful, timely information about deals.  They don't fulfil that function for me.

There is no separate Vyrso sales department. Vyrso is merely a brand name for Logos to use selling certain kinds of books, but it's still the same Logos sales department that deals with it all. The email notifications are all automated, and I frequently get really unhelpful ones on Logos resources too. They'll frequently advertise to me some sale they're having on a resource I already own. Dan Pritchett (dan@logos.com) is the one I've notified about problems with the emails that go out, as he has indicated an interest in getting all the glitches sorted out. I think it's actually the web programmers who take care of that stuff on the back end, not the sales people themselves.

I got the email too. You should note that the email does not say that the book is FREE but that it is on LIMITED TIME SAVINGS, and it still is. I do not get any emails about the freebies, but I do about sales (as you did).

    Nicky and Rosie,

I apologize that you felt that you did not receive information in a timely manner. Our email system for Vyrso is not currently automated, we are still developing our strategy for email with Vyrso.

We want to keep you informed and up-to-date on all of the different discounts, freebies, and features we are offering. At the same time, we do not want to spam your inbox and have people frustrated that we email too much. What balance do you appreciate the most? Do you want to find out every time we have a new freebie? Would you prefer to get a couple of reminders each week?

Again, let me apologize for causing you any frustration. Please let me know how we can better meet your needs with Vyrso.

    Brian

Brian, I think that including a Vyrso FREEBIE mailing option (like the logos freebie option) would solve the problem. Let the consumer decide how much mail they want from Vyrso just as we have the option for Logos Emails. [Y]

Please let me know how we can better meet your needs with Vyrso.

I want the opposite of what I get:

    • I want to be notified of all freebies (concentrated to as few e-mails as possible without missing anything out).
    • I want the e-mail to arrive before I've found out for myself, not after.
    • I do not want to receive a dozen or more e-mails about the very same month long fiction sale, which I already checked out the first day or so. That is what feels like being spammed.

Now, I do realize that the sale is what earns you money, not the freebies, so I do realize the sale is what's important to you to advertise, even though it's been completely uninteresting to me so far (I'm not Evangelical, and although I'll take those books for free, I wouldn't pay even $0.01 for them (get Ignatius, Liturgical Press, SPCK and some others onboard, and that'll change)). So how do we accommodate both you and me? I suggest the following:

    • Spread out the freebies over the whole month, instead of drowning us in them at the beginning of the month, and then not having a single new one during the latter half of the month.
    • Send out e-mails about all freebies, and include the word FREE or FREEBIE in capitals on the subject line.
    • Send out one separate e-mail at the beginning of a sale, and perhaps a reminder shortly before it closes.
    • Also send out separate e-mails when a new publisher is added. (And if it's a 'Catholic interest' publisher, put it on the Catholic feed as well.)
    • For the rest of the PR, use the freebie mails to recommend a couple of authors or books that are on sale (or an author that's just been added). You'll get as much advertisement out that way as you do now, and it's much more likely to be read, because people will open it to see what the free one is -- and yet we can't complain about spam, because, well, we don't want to miss the free ones.

Good observation, keep it up alabama24[Y]. Looking at the email notification again I see that you are right.

    Brian,

I'd like a timely email each time there is/are freebies.  If the email has a link to the monthly sale page, this would get customers looking at the stuff that makes you a profit.  Thank you for responding to my moan!

Incidentally (they may murder me for this suggestion!), why not have a system like Amazon Kindle's one day offer for a low price, but not free? Then people might be discerning, rather than, as I do, grabbing the lot!  Having said that, freebies have inspired me to buy some non-free books by an author I met through freebies and decided I liked.

I've made an RSS feed available which gives timely updates on Vyrso freebies, and you can use this to get email updates whenever a new book is made available for free.

The feed URL is http://www.logos4training.com/feeds/freevyrsobooks and if you want the notification emailed to you rather than in your feed reader, go to http://www.feedmyinbox.com/

This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

Brian, I'm not one who was frustrated. I was just explaining to Nicky what I think goes on behind the scenes. I might have been mistaken.

Does that mean there's also a vyrso daily deal on Twitter  If so, how do I find it?  I check out the logosones.

But unless my cart checkout is broken, the Vyrso "daily deals" give 5% instead of 50% as the Logos' ones do.

Yes, but 50% off often makes me buy a resource I otherwise would not have considered (don't tell my wife), while 5% off makes me shrug my shoulders. I most probably won't care to follow these on twitter, just to save $ 0,29 every now and then - I let this weeks deals pass, even though the books sounded interesting.

But then I wonder how I managed to order Vyrso books for over $200, when the fiction stuff all came for free....

I agree... The Vyrso twitter deals are largely a joke (you don't even save 50 cents) ... HOWEVER... remember that Vyrso is giving away plenty of FREE STUFF in addition to lots of other books on great discount. In my opinion, there is nothing to complain about. [;)]

Yep, lets not ask for too much of a discount on something that is reality cheap to start off with. [:$]

Same here, I'm very happy about all the free books and I don't want to create the impression that there's something to complain about - it's just the opposite! Having two daily deals on twitter might lead to wrong expectations (it did mislead me), that's all. If Vyrso pointed to the heavily discounted ex-freebies instead of a non-deal might be mor worthwile - but hey, it's their sales campaign. And it makes people aware of books that otherwise might go unnoticed - every little bit helps.

Thanks for the feedback! You are correct in assuming that the purpose of the Twitter Daily Deals campaign is to make people aware of Vyrso ebooks that have otherwise gone unnoticed. We wanted to add some sort of "deal," but with the slim margins we are working with we couldn't provide a deeper discount. Our hope is simply to bring light to overlooked ebooks in stock. I hope this helps shed more light into our thinking!

Me too! Sorry for the misinformation above. Since none of the offers have ever been even remotely interesting to me, for any price, I've never actually clicked on the links.

I agree with the gentleman from Alabama.  It bewilders me how anyone can complain about how someone is giving stuff away for free.  I would say the correct comment would be "Thank you."
