New Testament Manuscript Project

I have completed compiling and editing the database of New Testament Papyri. The attached documents spell out how to effectively use this to find all the manuscripts that support a given verse or range. It also contains images of the Papyri when one is available. I plan on doing the Uncials and Minuscules, but that may take me some time to complete. the introductory section contains instructions for the most profitable use of the document as well as copyright information.
I used the highest resolution pictures possible when creating the Manuscript database. This made a file size of 130 megs. the Forum has a 5 Meg limit so I came up with a workaround that maintained most of the quality but requires some extra steps. First, download each of these files.
A Searchable Database of New Testament Manuscripts (Word Document w/ Low res pictures)
Next, you will need to open the Word document as a zip file. These instructions are based on Windows 7
- Go to the folder the above Word document is located in
- select "Organize>Folder and search Options>View Tab and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types
- Rename the word document as a zip file by putting ".zip" at the end
- d
- Open the newly created zip file to the folder Papyri Information by century2.docx.zip\word\media
- Copy and paste the pictures from each of the zip files above into this word\media folder.
- navigate back to the folder containing the word document and remove ".zip" from the end.
The document should now contain the higher resolution pictures.

Can't open the document in Word. Was this created in Libre Office? I seem to recall there being problems opening those files in Word. Can you save it as RTF and post that here too?

Then when I write a meaningless post it doesn't time out. Here is the file. Pictures had to be stripped. I'll send them in zip files with instructions to easily update later. the link is in the first post. copyright information and instructions for most effective use are in introductory section. I've written this more eloquently at least 7 times so sorry for not wanting to write it out more again :-)

is probably the reason. I am using 2010 and I stripped the images out
of the file using a creative method. I might have to revisit this one
after my messages today. If someone with Word 2010 can comment on
whether they can open the original file that would be helpful.0 -

The image quality will probably be very poor but I might be able to easily fix that in the future.

I don't have time for detailed instructions right now but in case you know how to go off of basic instructions download all these zip files. Open the Word document as a Zip file and replace all the images in the folder Word>Media with the images in these zip files. reset the Word document to a .docx file and it should work correctly.

Nice work, compiles well after photos are substituted.
Might I suggest that you add the folio (page) numbers of the manuscript photos.

You know what would be nice is to tag this with the scripture references and be able to use it along with the Greek text, ect.

I'm so sorry I don't remember what I finally stumbled upon to make this work. I do wish I had recorded my work-around at the time, but, obviously I didn't. I am confident you to can find a way out of the weeds, just persevere. If I figured it out you can rest assure that anyone with basic computer skills can do it, as I am truly technically challenged.
I just kept hacking at it and finally got it to work. Once again I apologize.

Hi David
just create a new folder in your computer desktop, copy all new media files to there, rename the new folder to " Media", delete the old "Media" folder from the "word" folder that is located in the zip file "Papyri information by century2.docx.zip", copy the new "Media" folder to there and rename the file "Papyri information by century2.docx", just deleting the ".zip".

Thanks. That did it! I don't know why the other way didn't work, but I've got the resource working well now!
