German Bible Society states: "No Further SESB-Versions"
Today, I received an email from the German Bible Society stating that Logos will end official support of L3 this March. While this was not news to me, the German Bible Society also made this statement: "Since there will be no further SESB-versions following, there are two options for you: further use of the SESB based on Libronix 3 or moving to Logos 4." It appears that there are no plans to make another SESB package. Hopefully, this means that the German Bible Society will be unbundling their products in the future.

Gotta represent. But it sure is a small world sometimes. Doing well here. In in Vienna now working on learning German, which is why I would love to get a few current German Bible translations without buying the whole SESB package.
I know, right? I was really surprised when you responded to my thread. I very rarely see people I know on the Logos forums. Glad things are well with you. Thanks for the FB request. It will be nice to keep up with you. As for the German translations, I hope for unbundling for the sake of you and others.

To me that sounds like they may be releasing L4-only editions of the SESB contents, just not as a package. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking....

To clarify the GBS position on the SESB and their products, I will post the entire email. Email is as follows:

II. How can I still use my SESB content in the future?
1. Further use of Libronix 3
Currently there is no need to migrate from Libronix 3 to Logos 4, if you can use the SESB without any difficulty. Benefits of the SESB and Libronix 3 are:
- user interface in several languages as French/Dutch/Spanish e.g.
- lower hardware requirements
We can’t guarantee that the SESB will also be running on future Windows operating systems.
Because of the restricted support and development of Libronix 3, problems could occur with installations on new operating systems.
You can upgrade from Libronix 3 to Logos 4 any time.
Separately purchased Libronix 3 download-modules can also be used with Logos 4 afterwards.

2. Moving to Logos 4
Logos 4, which currently is only available with an English user interface, offers the following advantages:
- support and development by Logos
- new download-modules only on Logos 4
- also available for Mac OS X Lion
Please note: the WIVU-database for syntactic search functions in the BHS is currently not working with Logos 4. The German Bible Society is working on a solution, which will be submitted via automatic update.
A free Logos-account which is required for transition to Logos 4, can be created by you at www.logos.com.
Send an e-mail with a request for synchronization of your Libronix-customer-account with the Logos-account tocustomerservice@logos.com.
The Logos customer support will need the following data from you:
- SESB/Libronix-customer-account (in most cases associated with your SESB registration e-mail address).
- The user name of your Logos.com account.
After synchronization by Logos the contents of your SESB and so far separately purchased Libronix 3 download-modules will be associated with your Logos-account and will be available after installation and logging in at Logos 4.
The logos 4 platform is available in different variants.
In addition to three fee-based packages, there is also a free installer under option 4.

I had missed this earlier, but it appears that individual products are in fact coming. GBS says, "The German Bible Society will support the Logos platform and provide download modules in the future." So the real question is if the SESB will be shelved, or if it will remain available for purchase long-term? Perhaps I am wrong, but the SESB will likely be more cost effective than multiple module purchases. This is the case for Accordance. In summary, I would purchase SESB now, unless you only want one module.

When I compare the Logos description listings for the 18-volume edition to the 52-volume edition, I cannot match apples to apples to see if the 52-volume edition contains EVERYTHING from the 18-volume edition exactly as it is in the 18-volume edition, or if the 18-volume edition has different versions of some the same/similarly-named resources, since the same wording isn't used for both sets.
Can anyone help clarify?

Yes, BHQ is incomplete. Here are the contents of BHQ:

As far as I know, the 18 vol "SESB for Logos users" is a subset of the 52 vol SESB 3.0 it contains critical editions, apparatuses etc. but not the European languages bibles. Thus for me it shows grey on the Logos page, as the page's logic determines I own all resources this set has to offer.
The SESB 2.0 to 3.0 upgrade referred to upgrading from the full-number SESB 2.0 to the 52 vol SESB 3.0. I bought the full-volume 2.0 plus the 3.0 upgrade last year and thus technically now own the 52 vol SESB 3.0 full package. Consequently, the SESB package (now since they repaired the page logic) shows grey.

I am glad for those who will benefit from this unbundling. Hopefully, everything in the SESB will be unbundled in the future. We may just be waiting on licensing issues and/or pricing to be worked out by Logos and the German Bible Society. I also hope both SESB packages will be retained by Logos. The packages are more cost effective for those wanting more than one apparatus. But as stated by others, if you are on the fence concerning the SESB, then it would be wise (if finances allow) to purchase an SESB package in the event that Logos might have to pull the product at the request of the publisher. I also concur that if would be helpful if Logos could way in on this matter. Although, I understand that Logos may have to remain silent because of a confidentiality agreement, or to retain good relations with the publisher.
Also, there is some good news for SESB owners that I failed to mention. The German Bible Society stated: " The WIVU-database for syntactic search functions in the BHS is currently not working with Logos 4. The German Bible Society is working on a solution, which will be submitted via automatic update." Though a future SESB product may be abandoned, the German Bible Society is not abandoning its customers who own SESB.
Logos 7 Collectors Edition
Those are good questions. Unless Logos or the GBS offers further information, we are left to speculate. My assumption is that the SESB will be unbundled for individual book/apparatus/database purchase. I base this assumption on two factors: 1) Recently, Accordance was allowed to sell the NA27 apparatus and the BHS apparatus as individual purchases. 2) Lately, publishers have allowed more unbundling in comparison to the past. As to what consumers should do, I would suggest purchasing the http://www.logos.com/product/8484/stuttgart-electronic-study-bible sooner rather than later if you want both the NA27 apparatus (and/or UBS4) and the BHS apparatus. A bundled product is usually more cost effective, and the SESB may go away. You should also consider purchasing the full SESB if you want all the tools and books that are offered in that package: http://www.logos.com/product/8644/stuttgart-electronic-study-bible. However, most Logos users will do fine with the 18 volume version. I know that some Logos users were waiting for an SESB refresh. If you were waiting, then you might as well take the SESB 3.0 plunge. There is no refresh coming.
With all of this said, Logos may in fact be able to keep the SESB product and sell individual titles from the GBS. This would be the best of both worlds, and would benefit the largest segment of the Logos user base.
I've had this on my "maybe" list for quite some time. But I'd want the 52 volume version, the one that has all the French Bibles in it. However it does seem kind of like overkill for me. It's redundant with many resources I already have (BHS, NA27, UBS4, Metzger, Septuagint, Vulgate, Apostolic Fathers, English Bibles), and I doubt I'd ever use the critical apparatus or the Latin/Coptic/German texts of the Gospel of Thomas, or the Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, German, Russian or Modern Greek bibles.
If only they'd unbundle this!
