Biblical Illustrator - 4 Books (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)

These should be much cleaner than the other five OT books.  I worked on the OT when I started working on the Biblical Illustrator and after I finished a few books I realized there were some errors in the books.  So I decided to start from the beginning with the NT this time around and I will try to fix the OT after I finish the NT.  I also have the book of Acts done but I cannot post it here due to Logos selling the Acts (http://www.logos.com/product/533/the-biblical-illustrator).   There are some missing sections in the books of the NT.  As far as I can tell the only missing section in the Gospels is John 18.  I tried to locate the text on the internet but I couldn't find it anywhere.

The heavy duty work was done by Josh Bond (www.biblesupport.com) and he graciously allowed me to use his work and adapt it for Logos and I acknowledge his work.in every document.

I had some issues uploading them to the forum so I posted them on outside links.  So here they are:

The other 5 books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticuls, Numbers, Deuteronomy), (if you don't want to wait for the corrected version) are here:

Maybe JerryM and Robert can add some magic to the files to make them even better Smile.

    Thank you.

    And just to fix the links (they are all opening onto the John link):

    So much for copy/paste [:)].  Thank you for pointing that out.  Should be fixed now.

    Perhaps Robert could let me know what his schedule is like.  He did an excellent and timely job last time.  No sense in both of us adding milestones.

    p.s. George, I have a wedding I am officiating soon and did a search in my fairly large library, out of curiosity, for wedding sermons and I'll let you guess the only hit I got.  Hint: it  was in Genesis and it was an application style commentary.

    Good evening.

    Since the Forum apparently has a 4MB or so limit on files, we'll experiment with (what I think is) a new DropBox feature that allows sharing at large with a link.

    I have done the John files, one with bible milestones, one with bible milestones and page #s.

    The file that doesn't have the page #s is here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gjspyw267tj0jb8/PD5DFDDVZP

    The file that does have page #s is here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ue5q3ta4pnyzz0h/khqIAs7T0i

    These same folder will have the other 3 files (I think) in a few minutes.

    Wonder if a search of Heading Text:Large Text in Entire Library for:

    finds more to ponder:

    Thanks Robert, the files came down fine. FYI, I have used Dropbox links on these forums before and they work very well!

    If you look through the files with Page Numbers, there are spots where a bunch of page numbers are all grouped together. I have seen this before, when using macros to apply Page Numbers Word has trouble with large files; it does not repaginate fast enough and drops them all in the wrong place. I have not found a way to fix this automatically, maybe our macro guru Steve Clark has an idea! The page number macros basically has to be slowed down...

    Maybe if I force a good, full repagination run prior the macro. I'll give it a shot tonight (US-EDT). I'll re-check the Pentateuch files, also.

    I have fixed the "with page #" Gospels, plus Genesis, Exodus. I'll fix the remaining 3 tomorrow evening, since I am falling asle.....

    [nap-****] Oh, and here are the links again for the most recent versions:

    WITH PAGE NUMBERS and Bible milestones

    NO PAGE #s, but with Bible milestones

    I altered the page macro to force repagination every 100 pages, which worked, with the exception of the last 8 pages, which I fixed manually (must be a flow-control issue, go figure).

    how did you fix the page number issue?

    Dominick:

    I fixed it by putting a counter in the macro that forces a repagination every 100 pages. I also added Word page numbers in the header (for easy verification) and manually forced a repagination by dragging the scroll button down before running the macro. Oddly, the macro gives up near the end, i.e., in a 900 page doc, the last 3-4 pages didn't have the milestone. (Probably because the page count increases as all the page milestones are added.) But it is a trivial matter to put those in manually. If the real programmers out there promise not to taunt me [:S], the so-called code is below. Basically, I start out using old old Basic flow-control that I learned long ago, and then throw things at it until it does what i want. I also do a lot of "borrowing" from code snipets on the web. ("Good composers borrow, great composers steal" - Stravinsky or Elliot or somebody).

    All: FYI:

    I would also like to reiterate that these page #s are based simply on Word's pagination and have nothing to do with the original  publications, and therefore would have no meaning in a citation. I put them in to enable the Read Aloud feature, and to provide a relative reference within the resource.

    Code:

    Sub PageMilestoneWordPagination()

    Dim rngPage As Range

    Dim iCurrentPage As Integer

    Dim iPageCount As Integer

    Dim Counter As Integer

    Application.ScreenUpdating = False

    Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory

    Selection.TypeText Text:="[[@Page:1]]"

    ActiveDocument.Repaginate

    Set docToNumber = ActiveDocument

    Set rngPage = docToNumber.Range

    iCurrentPage = 1

    Counter = 0

    iPageCount = docToNumber.Content.ComputeStatistics(wdStatisticPages)

        Do Until iCurrentPage > iPageCount

            If iCurrentPage = iPageCount Then

                rngPage.End = ActiveDocument.Range.End

            Else

                Selection.GoTo wdGoToPage, wdGoToAbsolute, iCurrentPage + 1

                Selection.TypeText Text:="[[@Page:" + CStr(iCurrentPage + 1) + "]]"

                rngPage.End = Selection.Start

                Counter = Counter + 1

                If Counter = 100 Then

                    ActiveDocument.Repaginate

                    Counter = 0

                Else

                End If

            End If

            iCurrentPage = iCurrentPage + 1 'move to the next page

        Loop

    Application.ScreenUpdating = True

    Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory

    End Sub

    Note: an additional edit was made in the Pentateuch files and the Gospels except John. The abbreviation used for Deuteronomy wasn't recognizable by Logos.

    See this thread (HT: Michael) for details and if you've compiled the books, you can easily fix yourself or re-download and recompile.

    I'm wondering if the Title Page for Matthew's docx somehow got lopped off; it's the only one in all of them so far that doesn't show a Title Page. No issue on the utility, but it would be nice for consistency's sake.

    Ran into that same issue... for some reason, the source docx file thinks that portion of the file is an embedded Word file... just double click on it, copy the contents to clipboard, delete the embedded file, then paste the contents (but not the embedded file) back into the original source file. Problem solved... :-)

    After an unproductive wrestling match with the embedded info, I cut it, grabbed the info from the Mark BI title page, pasted it in and changed the name to Matthew. I'm using LibreOffice which might be why I couldn't run it the same way, but this worked.

    Hi Jack, haven't had time to check, but I don't use them anyway... to me, having the TOC correct was important...

    I believe this puts the Title page as 1 as the bracketed number code is in it. At least it was for me.

    Yes, it does, but that leaves the beginning of "General Introduction to the New Testament" also on page 1. However, I will probably leave it that way.
