Tixeront - Patrology - part 1
Probably about ten years ago I discovered the website http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ and saw that one of the resources it had online for many of the writers was the section from Tixeront. I found that they were decent, even if quite dated, summaries of issues for these writings from a Roman Catholic perspective of his time.
That said, things are different now. Bauer has written massive studies of the early church. Actual Gnostic writings have been discovered, and so we can read their side of things to.
I have been working on this, off and on, for a while. Part of me wants to hold off until the whole work is done. Another part looks at how I have off and on worked on this and figures it is worth it to put a decent chuck out there. That part won, and so offered here is the first hundred odd pages - Part 1, which covers the first 3 centuries.
I have tagged a fair amount of documents, but have probably not been entirely consistent about when I tag them.

If I finish more of this, I will update this thread.

Thanks Ken. This looks like a very interesting book covering the first three hundred years.

This is now 2 thirds of the book. This takes you though the great debates about the Trinity, Christology, and Original Sin - more of an introduction to many major players than an in depth analysis of any of them. But there is a place for introductions like this before you get buried in all the names...

Attached is the text of this book. The printed edition includes an index which I have not included - I figure Logos is pretty good at indexing already and quite frankly was tired of the detail work that would be needed to do this. But this takes the story into the early middle ages - John of Damascus in the East and Gregory the Great and Isidore of Seville in the West.

Thanks Ken. What is the difference between this file and the two you posted above?

MOSTLY it is how far I went into the book. Tixeront broke it down into three sections - birth, height, and decline. The first file is only the first part. The second file is the first two parts. The third file is all three parts.
In addition there have been a few links updated and a few typos corrected in footnotes, but that is rather minor, really.

Thanks for the explanation Ken. It looked like it also included the first two files you posted and you have affirmed that. Once again I really appreciate your work on this. I know how much time it can take.
