BUG: PBB resource location in list after compiling

This behavior is very annoying when you are working on a resource and compiling it many times over and over in a short amount of time.

Two other annoying behaviours:

1) When you add the .docx file, the Build button disappears below the screen, and you're forced to scroll down to see it again.

2) When you have built the book you get two alternatives: Finished or Open resource -- the latter completely unnecessary, as the resource has already opened automatically. What you don't get is the alternative you most often want: Edit resource. Instead you have to a) click Finished instead, b) wait a loooong while, c) scroll up and down, up and down to try to locate the book again (which isn't necessarily all that easy), and, finally, d) click Edit. Five minutes instead of one second... And that was just the first rebuild...

Also, when are you going to give us columns in the PB tool, so that we can sort by Author or Last Built instead of Title, which is not exactly the order I would generally choose if I had a choice? Plus it would give some overview, something that's impossible when I can only see ten books at a time.

Also I would like the ability to sort or filter the PB tool by resource type. You can filter titles or authors by using Ctrl+F but it doesn't work for resource Type.

Thanks for this tip, I was just wishing that I could sort my PB's by author. Filtering the list will work for me.

I'm unable to replicate this in Windows. I'll move the book files to the Mac and see if I can there. Is anyone able to replicate this on Windows?

Then choose one somewhere in the middle (one that's below the screen when you're scrolled to the top, and above the screen when you're at the bottom) and recompile that several times, and see how fun that is.

While that is true in Alabama's example, it isn't a general rule. Clicking Finished can end you up pretty much anywhere in the list -- except centered on the just recompiled book, which is, of course, what you'd want.

Oops, I just recompiled a couple of books, and for possibly the first time ever, the first Finished actually -- after an incredibly long wait -- did take me to the right part of the list, where I could immediately see the recompiled title without having to scroll for it. Unfortunately, the second went back to business as usual: I ended up with titles on 'C', although the one I had recompiled had a title starting with 'I'. Just wanted to warn you that the bug doesn't seem to happen 100% of the time anymore, so you may need several attempts.

As for my bug number 1), you probably need to add a new book to see that, not recompile an old one.

I have 22. I'll download more files from the list on the wiki, and try when I get to like 40. That should be enough?

40 should be fine... of course, part of it is the size of the monitor... It's more of a problem on my MacBook than my larger screened iMac. As for the source file... No need to change. Just make sure you are using different info for the metadata (Title, author, etc)

I can say that I have over 1700 personal books, and I do not have the scroll bar issue. I have a different issue. I compile several books at the same time. I first put in the file name, book name, and the author's name for each book. I then go back to the top of the books that I am adding and add the photo and series information, and then I compile the book. I now do not get through the list when L5 will resort my PB's by title, and I have to scroll through my books to find the ones that I just added and had not compiled as of yet. (Instead of all of them being at the bottom of the list).

I'd love to answer, but there is that little unrecognized bug called BUG: Filtering by Edition no longer works as it should, which prevents me from easily finding out...[;)] (I e too many for me to want to count manually.)

Every 3-4-5-6 compilations or so you get some kind of message telling you to close all other tabs and try again. And doing that has never ever helped (at least not me). The only thing that does help is a restart. Rather annoying when you're trying to add a dozen new books, or need to edit and recompile a file a dozen times before it works as it should.

Hopefully you too will see that bug when you move over to Mac.[:D]

Maybe a work a round: If this is a new book [edit many time sounds like a new book] try calling it 0000NEW until it is ready.

It will sort at the top of the list.

When acceptable re start with the correct final name. At least you will only need to search for it a small number of times.

[also works when you are making major edits to an Old book.

Leave the last version of Old book with the new edits called 0000OLD until you have it the way you want it then edit Old book once and done.

I am able to reproduce this issue and have created a case for Development.

I have noticed the PBB on Mac is much less susceptible to this problem in the last couple of beta builds.

To welcome you here, I found another Build button bug for you today[:)]:

Add a new PB.
Type in the title, but don't hit Enter.
Add the file.
Scroll down and try to build.
You can't, because the Build button is grey. It stays grey until you've hit Enter.

I'm a mouse person, so I always forget to hit Enter after having typed in the title. I click Add File instead.

Actually, I didn't exactly 'find' this right now, it's annoyed me for a long time, but I thought it was by design, so I didn't bother to argue about it. What I did realize today was that it doesn't happen if you edit the title of an old PB and try to rebuild. It only happens with new ones. That does make it a bug.

Most definitely. It happened again just before you posted, and it's happened once more today.

The length of the books you are working with would be helpful.

Right now I'm only creating Headings for the Prioritize panel, so the .docx I'm using again and again only has one word in it. Or two, depending on how you count. So the length can't have that much to do with it. It's possible it's taken a few more builds for it to happen with this short file, but then that's always been erratic, so it can just as well be mere coincidence. It's also possible that it takes longer with rebuilds than with new builds, but I'm not sure about that either.

Not really. It always happens every... let's say 2-10 builds, to have a margin. I haven't noticed anything particular about those particular builds. It's more like it's 'had enough' and needs to start over. My thought has been that something's 'full', and needs emptying, but then I'm not a developer, as I'm sure you can tell.[:)]

It can't be a 10.6 issue, because I believe Alabama's on 10.8. Could have to do with lower specs, but I don't quite remember what computer he has.

I intended to copy the message and the PB log for you, but forgot, and now, just because I want it to happen, it of course refuses to happen. I don't think I've ever built so many books in a row before. Any other time I would have been happy about that, but of course it has to happen the one time I'm not happy about it...[:S]

I am indeed on 10.8. My MacBook Pro is <nearly> three years old.

FWIW - I have been doing a considerable amount of PBB work the past week and have very rarely had to restart Logos due to this error. I don't know if it is because I am on the latest beta builds, or because I'm lucky. I know it's not because I'm just that good. [;)]
