I haven't had a reoccurrence of this "high cpu usage/high fan speed/Logos stuck syncing" issue for almost two weeks now. I am not sure why, but I'll mention a couple things that I didn't do and a couple things that I did do:
1. I haven't switched anything with my wifi internet.
2. I haven't disabled any internet features in Logos.1. I am running Logos 5.2 RC 1 (on Mavericks).
2. I performed a SMC reset on my iMac—see here for why and how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_USSo far, so good.

As I type this message, I have Logos running in the background doing nothing and my Mac sounds like it is about to take off. CPU usage is 74.2%. No indexing.

I did a new install - did a SMC reset, completely indexed, etc. But when I have logos running, especially with Pages open it really starts churning won't shut down, have to force quit and fans keep running till I do.
But!! Logos finally updated from 5.1 to 5.2 - so lets see if that changes things.
Update didn't help. Now trying to quit Logos, and though have hit exit now it still shows
Even after Exit Now Still shows

Robert Bigouette, so sorry to hear this. For some strange reason, my system works fine now. I have not even tried the SMC reset yet. I must say, I still get nervous when I hear the fan running... it runs for a very short time and none of it, of late, seems to be related to Logos. I am even afraid to use the wifi when using Logos... I use it when not running Logos. Hope they fix this. I too downloaded the newest update, works fine for me.

So you are not allowing logos to connect online and that is fixing your issue? I use ethernet to connect to online, and I still get the issue. But I also use pages for my sermon notes.

I just took the plunge and switched from Windows to Mac. Having been used to the great stability of Logos 5 on Windows, I am disappointed to find out that Logos on Mac is very unstable. Every day, I need to force quit it a few times. However, it occurs so randomly that I cannot really pin it down. Yes, I also noticed the spinning sync icon when the CPU spikes.
Please, Logos, work on the stability issues of Logos on Mac.

Considering that this thread is so long, and that it deals with something different than your error, please create a new thread with either CRASH or BUG in the title. Otherwise your problem will likely be lost among all the other entries.
The LogosError.log contains several Web Exception errors, but they are beyond my meager log reading skills. I had a crash yesterday with some of the same errors CRASH: Logos 5.2 on Mac OS 10.9, but the circumstances were different.

My work around on maxing out the CPU is to use Logos in the offline mode. Anecdotally, this indicates to me a networking issue. I'm going to have to call Logos TS next week and see if we can get to the bottom of what is causing the issue. I am happy to work on my internet connection, but it is hard to know what needs to be fixed when every other piece of software on my computer that uses the internet is happy.

Had a crash reported in another thread that contained several Web Exclusions. Also noted several of these in Armin's logs just prior to your post. Perhaps L5 coupled with Mavericks has some internet anomalies.

I looked at the previous postings and believe my issue is the same from what everybody else experiences: High CPU usage with spinning sync icon. I hope Logos does not start ignoring threads once they are more than 2 pages long.

Hmm, I had experienced this anomally before Mavericks, multiple times. I would say it has been less with Mavericks, not more. But I didn't keep good records of the event. And have just started logging thanks to the help of guys on the forum pointing out how.

The problem has occurred for me since early 2013 (see my original post date), months before Mavericks. I do notice that it occurs more often when I am using the internet through my iPad, so there does seem to be a networking issue involved.
Also, Armin's problem description looks no different from the problem I have been experiencing.Logos 10 | Faithlife Connect Essentials

This is classic behaviour. I start Logos up, it is fine initially as it populates the home screen and then the CPU starts to climb. I go to close Logos and it won't respond. I have to force close it. It could be my internet connection, which is lousy. Yet everything else works... so it is hard to know what to chase or work on.
In terms of trouble free computing, Logos 5 was a huge improvement on 4, but this is starting to become a bit like version 4 again. [:(] For now, my workaround is to run it in the offline mode.

Here we go again: After using Logos for 15 mins, the sync wheel starts spinning non-stop, the fan comes on and I have to force-quit Logos. It really has become unusable.

Hello all,
I just spoke with our development team, and we are working with the information that we have but logs would be very helpful. If you experience this, please upload a log file to this thread. That information would be tremendously valuable to us, and greatly accelerate our efforts.

Armin,
The last set of logs you posted indicated that you were running 5.1b SR-3, can you update to 5.2 SR-1 and see if the situation improves? If you are still getting high CPU usage, follow the logging instructions and use the "Sample" button to collect a sample of the process.

SR-2—Has it been released yet?
Sorry, this should have been 5.2 SR-1; I have corrected it in my initial reply.

I hadn't seen the problem in a while but today I was (un)lucky and caught it. I was running 5.2.0.52 (61520.0.52) and Logos was running in a window but hidden (not fullscreen). When the fans started revving, I unhid the Logos window and it was actually working fine:
- It responded (albeit a bit slowly) to scrolling events.
- The syncing arrows weren't continuously spinning, though they did occasionally start spinning and then stop as I investigated how the application was behaving.
I started the OS X Activity Monitor and captured two samples of the state of the Logos application's threads (attached).

Well, after lots of problems last week, I haven't had any issues today. I will keep an eye on it.

Logos just crashed on me. It was a slightly different crash as the Logos window just disappeared. It was not the spinning sync wheel crash. Hope the logs help nevertheless.

Your logs contain multiple incidents of this error:
[quote]| ERROR | 58 | ApplicationUtility | SQLite Error 28: multiple links to file: /Users/eberlein/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/d5641vkc.6jn/LibraryCatalog/catalog.db
Found a few references to this error in the forums, but could not find a solution. Not sure that deleting the catalog.db would solve your problem. Perhaps someone will notice this post who knows the source of this error.
Did Logos restart normally?

Logos always starts after a crash, however, it tells me that it wants to send off a report.

Here is a crash for me today. The standard cpu fans, usage, etc. Then couldn't close, had to force quit.

My growing theory is that Logos is very temperamental when it comes to the internet connection. I posted this theory in another thread this morning in relation to another issue:
