Of course it would be nice but I have no expectation of Logos offering this to m.ED purchasers who do not already qualify for academic pricing. We live in a society that expects special privileges all of  the time because they belong to this group or that, or have experienced done x or y in their life.

You are not very familiar with the academic pricing program, are you? If you will take a look at the list of schools and program options you will discover many unaccredited schools and many "certificate" programs do qualify for academic discount pricing. It is not a far stretch of the imagination to add mEd to that list As it stands now, a person could take the cost of the mEd courses and apply them to an "approved" school on the list and qualify for academic pricing for a year or more. I just think it is in Logos' interest to encourage the student to stay "in-house."

And for the "special privileges"; Logos created the groups and bestowed those privileges.

i did not claim to be familiar with Academic Pricing - just gave my thoughts on why I would not expect it to be part of the program.  And as Mark B has shown the current requirements amongst other things is being enrolled in a degree program.  I am ok with you asking the question. And I'd be happy if Logos did the opposite of what I expect.

At three hours per semester a fellow could spend the next twenty years pursuing a degree and enjoying academic discount.   Hmm.

I guess they granted me the discount in 2012 because AM Moody required me to have Logos, sorta.

I wonder if they will publish the current list. I am more than a little interested in studying Middle-Eastern studies with The American Institute for Advanced Biblical Studies.

@Super.**** - Are you wondering what schools we currently accept for our academic discount? Or what Mobile Ed courses are coming up, as Aaron answered?

Yes.  Is there any such public list?

I am already aware of what Aaron has posted.

Thanks to the both of you

I just downloaded the mEd Foundations Bundle. I think it will work fairly well for me. I also have interest in areas not covered by mEd.

I am legally blind and can not drive to any school. I hope to find a program I can do online that also qualifies for the Logos academic discount program. I am hoping to grow my Logos resource library while I go to school. Hence, the need of a list. [:)]

There is not a current list.

Well, I guess that's not completely true - but we don't post the list because we know it's still growing. Just because a school isn't listed, doesn't mean we won't approve the application.

For certificate programs, we treat it on a case-by-case basis, but here are some general guidelines:

    1. It must be a post-secondary program. We don't currently accept any high school level programs.
    2. You must be enrolled in the equivalent of 3 class hours (or 3 credits) a week.
    3. It has to be an established institution that offers some kind of legitimate diploma/degree/certificate.

Here are some examples of things we don't accept:

    1. "Institute" you just created in your garage, and you give out a gold star at the end.
    2. A weekend course that offers a completion certificate.

Again, we look at each application individually, so don't hold me to what I've said above. [:)] If you have questions about a specific school, you can email academic.activation@logos.com or fill out an application and wait for a response.

    Hope that helps!

Absolutely!  Would it be possible for teachers to receive CEU's for taking these courses?

Now that is a good idea.

Yes it would make a great deal of difference to me. I have, like most people, a limited budget for education. Why spend resources on courses that don't offer some kind of certification, when you could put them toward courses that do. Convenience is only worth so much, even when you are busy. Please don't misunderstand me, I am extremely excited about this new format. In my opinion though without certification it could be prohibitively expensive for most people who are just seeking to further their own personal knowlegde, and not real useful for someone seeking to move into pt/ft ministry. Churches more and more expect their pastoral staff to be educated, at least to some degree and they are going to expect you to produce some kind of proof. Logos compared the knowledge gained to that of a Bible college or seminary, those institutions offer some kind of sheep skin to those who finish their coursework and it would be useful if Logos did too. Partnering with an organization or school to review syllabi and/or to conduct testing (for a fee of course) for the purpose of certification might work, I don't know.

I would like to see a certificate of completion for Mobile eD course. I'm not talking about certification or a diploma that I can transfer but it would be nice to have a "Certificate of Completion for Bible Doctrine and Foundations" from Logos Mobile eD. While many of many people, especially lay people don't have the formal education that a lot of Pastors do it is something that they can show they have completed the courses. I'm not talking about something that would give formal recognition by a denomination or body but something that a person could hang on their wall and say "I completed this".

A simple certificate of completion from Logos. I know I could go print my own certificate saying that I completed it but I could print certificates for a lot of things. Me making up my own certificate really has no meaning while a certificate from Logos saying I completed the course would have more meaning, at least personally, a sense of accomplishment that I complete it.

i love the m.Ed concept. It's perfect for my needs.  Personally i see no value in a "Diploma" offered by Logos.  Since it would not be accredited it wouldn't be a diploma at all.  If anything it would devalue what Logos is offering through the m.Ed. concept - it would become like the old saying, "oh you must of got your license from a corn flakes packet"

To me m.Ed is about helping me to become a better reader of the scriptures and hence increase my understanding and application of the scriptures. Secondarily it enables me to better read, understand and evaluate the wide scope of resources I have in my Logos library as I gain deeper insight into what it is I believe about God and why I believe it.  This has flow on benefits to how I serve in my local church as a children's ministry leader, how I build up those in the bible study group I attend weekly and how I encourage those I speak with at church.  And it enables me to be ready to defend the truth in which I believe those whom I come in contact and ask me about my faith.

I am not seeing m.Ed as simply something to complete so I can get a certificate, and I don't need a certificate to achieve or do what I outlined above - I simply need to live out may faith.  I saved off the certificates from the AM Moody Course - I completed them all - as PDF files, and haven't looked at them since and most likely never will.  In reality they have no value in that they are not accredited. But what I appreciate is I still have all the notes in Logos to refer to in the future and can still do the quizzes if choose - the only thing I can't do is submit my results to Moody.

The m.Ed courses I have, I know have them for "life" and go back to them to refresh my understanding on a topic whenever I want.  The real value of m.Ed. Is in how it enables you to grow and that has nothing to do with getting a certificate or diploma IMHO. If being able to print such is a deciding factor is purchasing these courses I hope you haven't missed the real value of these courses.

    Ditto.

I would like to see an option for printing a completion cert.  but it is not a factor in my procurement of the courses.  However, I know that many ARE pursuing degrees and though this is not accredited, the materials are valuable.  Perhaps Logos can work with Seminaries/colleges/Universities and partner with them with the material.  As example, Gordon Conwell has free-online courses that if you finish them to completion, they offer a significant discount if the student continues to pursue a degreed course of action/diploma.

For my personal use, I use these as a tool to help me be a better pastor.  And by extension, would also like to use some of these in a small-church, sit-down classroom environment for others that might looking to pursue that kind of education, as mentioned in the thread asking for feedback.  great stuff, right here.  and I would love to see some kind of printout regarding completion, but can't see that it would be a requirement.  hope that helps.

Would it make any difference to you if Logos Mobile Education offered certificates for course completion and a diploma for a course of study?

It would make a huge difference to me and I would be interested to know if Logos has considered this. I'm a pastor and I'm taking a class in church planting right now in preparation for planting a church. One of the things we are chewing over is how to train future leaders. On one hand, there are benefits to the traditional model where you send someone off to seminary to get their MDiv and then they return to be used in ministry however. But, there are also limits to that. At the same time, sending someone out on mission with no formal education--my formal education has been priceless--can be very foolish.

I say all that to say this: I would definitely use Logos and Mobile Ed to train leaders from within the church. This way they can get the formal education (the book work) through Logos and on the job ministry and philosophy training. But it seems to me that it would need some form of certification at the end of the program. Like maybe you get a certification of completion for completing the foundations package and then they send you some sort of flashy metallic sticker as you complete other packages. That way the pastors I train up have a piece of paper to frame when they plant a new church and they have some credibility.

Here's the shortcoming for my model. Let's say I train a pastor in the way I described above (similar to, I got my BA online while I was serving as an intern youth pastor). Then this pastor wants to continue his education. He may or may not have any junior college or a BA at this point and could feel that all his time in education was a waste. I know some schools will let you test out of biblical and theological fundamentals and take elective credits instead, but that still leaves the pastor with little room to get further education--at least without doing a LOT of work to catch his 'piece of paper' up to his education.

I guess a follow up question would be this:

Shouldn't Logos have a more structured form of certification (even if its not accredited) for the cost?

I get all the benefits of having it within Logos and that the courses are more structured than other online lecture courses, but the cost is still too much for what is offered in my opinion. The program needs a little more umphhh.

On the other hand, $500 a year for doing the monthly classes, sure you have to select from what's offered in a given month, but that's a bargain.

Just checking to see if certificate of completion is still something being discussed or in the works, or did this thread get "rabbit-trailed".

    What is AM Moody?

    What is AM Moody?

AM Moody was a joint venture between Moody Distance Learning and Logos.

It was sort of like Mobile Ed in that each of the 32 Courses was broken into chapters with exams at the end of every third Chapter.

In addition to the lesson there were readings called "Opportunities for Deeper Study" which may or not be in your current package.  You would submit your exam results to the Moody website and after you completed the course you could download a certificate of completion.

The only real differences between Mobile Ed and AM Moody, in my humble opinion, are there were no videos and the it didn't look as sleek.

I was about half way through the courses when I received an email stating no more exam submissions and no more certificates. They shut the program down I guess.

I find value in the courses still when I need to brush up on something I once knew but have forgotten.

I hope that answers your question.
