I know there is already a thread on cheating in the March Madness contest, but I would like to post a suggestion for improvement here so it is seen by Logos. The situation is pretty bad. With five hours left Gordon Fee was beating N. T. Wright solidly. Now N. T. Wright is winning by 800 votes with minutes left. 7400 votes were cast for that competition compared to 3800 for D. A. Carson vs. Alistair McGrath. Many of these votes at the end seem to have come from one person who wanted to rig the vote. Logos is losing money because of this. Had Waltke made it beyond the first round I probably would have spent over $100 on his resources. Instead I bought one book; the other deals just weren't that great.
What can we do about this? Logins should be required. I don't know what it takes to set up a Logos account currently, but as a web developer, you can make it pretty easy when someone clicks the link to force them to create an account and verify their email address (if they don't already have an account). OR you could have people login via facebook. Anyone who has a facebook account can do this in one click (or a little more if they're not currently logged into facebook). You would get from facebook their email address and could track people that way.
Would votes be lost because it's harder to vote? Yes, but it would be a minimal amount. Would it make a big difference in the quality of this sale? Yes! Logos, please don't let this year happen again. You're losing $ by trying to keep voting easy. If people aren't going to log in in order to vote, they're probably not really going to buy anything anyway. I see no reason why we should do this again.
