New Feature: Send to Kindle

Can't remember now and not at my computer to check but I think the files from the Cloud Dive download in AZW3 format; can the DX read that format or does it read just mobi/AZW? if you have Calibre, try converting the file to mobi format and try it again in the DX.
For what it's worth, i don't think the error message has anything to do with rights; I don't think Amazon goes around putting DRM on our Personal Docs files.

My Kindle DX is old. It can do G3 with Whispernet or I can connect it to a computer with a USB. It does not have wifi capability.
Sorry, I don't know. It may be that your device will be unsupported... but I don't know for sure. I don't know how it works to transfer the documents manually like you are doing. Does your device connect to the internet when you plug it into your computer, or does it just work as a hard drive to transfer files? (Is your kindle email address worthless for the device since you aren't using whispernet?)

This is a wonderful new feature in 6.0 that deserves promotion and step by step simple instructions.
I figured it out but it was quite a challenge from the notes in here.
Can Logos (Faithlife) please devise a simpler method of doing it all and/or documenting please.
Blessings and thanks,

When I downloaded from Amazon Cloud the files were AZW format rather than AZW3 and my Kindle is compatible with AZW files so it seems like it should have worked.
FYI: I finally tried using Whispernet instead of downloading the files and it worked fine. I just don't like paying Whispernet fees to get the books onto my Kindle. The fees are small but I would rather not pay them if I could find a way to do it with a USB cable instead.

My Kindle works like a hard drive when I connect via USB to my computer. I tried downloading the files from Amazon Cloud directly to my Kindle, as if the Kindle was just a hard drive on my computer but I still couldn't open the books.
I finally gave up on the USB and tried using Whispernet and it worked fine, although I had to pay a small fee. Not being able to use a USB seems to be an Amazon problem rather than a Logos problem so I might check with Amazon and see if they have any ideas.
Thanks for your help everyone!

When I download from the Cloud drive, the book shows in AZW format but when I bring it into Calibre, it shows up as AZW3, so now I have no idea what is what.

I haven't had a 3G Kindle in a while but, IIRC, Amazon used to have an option where you could either turn off the option to use Whispernet or tell it it couldn't charge you more than $0.00 for using it. I looked around and don't see that anymore; I don't know if it's been removed. Also, Amazon used to have to separate a separate Kindle email address with the word "free" in it, to differentiate from the one where they would charge Whispernet fees. I don't see anything like that anymore ??? I hardly use a Kindle device or app these days, so I haven't been keeping up with the changes Amazon has been making. My Paperwhite (wifi-only) is more of a paperweight these days, and I mostly use the Kindle iOS app to see the number of locations in a book.

i would be more than glad to take it off your hands. [;)]
i LOVE my iPad and hope to get a new one "soon". When I read books I want to highlight, I use the logos Bible! App for iOS. When I want to read a book without such encumbrance, I use the plain Jane kindle I have. It would be nice to be able to read in the dark though.

I've had offers but I keep it for the odd day I decide I want to read while I'm out in the sun (beach-side/pool-side). It hasn't happened in years but I know as soon as I pass it on, I'll be going "if only I had my Paperwhite" [8-)]
I had been planning to get a new iPad as well but with the L6 upgrade and all, that's pushed back for now. My current iPad is only 32GB and I need more space so I can keep more Logos resources on it. Most of my reading is done via my favorite reading app, Marvin - the highlighting and sharing capabilities are great and I love it to bits. Of course, now that I finally have a base package, I find myself using the Logos app a lot more than I ever did.

iirc, all kindles have wifi and so you should be able to get it free via wifi and not need to use whispernet unless you are in a location that does not have wifi. I can think of a couple ways for this to work:
1. Use the "free" kindle email address that only delivers via wifi. To do this, take your normal kindle email address and change @kindle.com to @free.kindle.com . I couldnt find the Amazon docs on this, so dont know if they allow it anymore, but worth a try.
2. In your Kindle settings on the Amazon website, under the Whispernet Delivery Options, there should be an option to set a charge limit per delivery. If they allow you to set this to $0.00 it would for wifi only delivery.
3. If you have another device, like an ipod, iphone, ipad, android phone, basically any i-device or android, install the Kindle app. This will create an email address for that device. In your Kindle settings on the Amazon Website, make sure personal document archiving is turned on. Use the email address for this device. No whispernet fee because it's not a kindle 3G device. The point of this was to get the document archived. Now you should be able to go to any Kindle device on your account and download the document from the cloud because it is stored in your personal cloud archive.

It is STRONGLY recommended that you don't... You should be very judicious in your downloaded resource list.
By "more" I don't mean ALL! Yes, I learnt this the hard way. I tried to download EVERYTHING, which was not only impossible, but took up just about all my space as well. I had to remove everything (that was fun!) and decide on what I really couldn't do without, which for now are mostly lots of commentaries.

I had a cursory look-around and it doesn't look like the Kindle DX model ever got wifi.

You are right. Looks like 3G was just part of the package until the Kindle 3 was introduced with a reduced cost wifi only option. I guess I just took free 3G for granted on my 1st gen and came to think of it as wifi. I no longer have it so I was just going from (imperfect) memory. [8-|]
So, in all of my ideas for 3G only Kindles, you'll need to replace transfer via wifi with download to computer and transfer via usb. Note that using the @free.kindle.com email address delivers the document as an attachment to you via email so you can download and transfer via usb. I did find a reference to it here so it should still be an active option: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-1?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200375910&qid=1416244881&sr=1-1

I did a little testing on this. From the Amazon Cloud drive I downloaded one of the Logos books and transferred it to my Paperwhite via USB; I got the same message as you ("The selected item could not be opened. If you purchased this item from Amazon, delete the item and redownload it from Archived Items available in Home."). Yet it opens up with no issues in the Kindle for PC app, so the problem is not DRM-related.
I then converted the file to the .mobi format (using Calibre) and transferred it again to the Paperwhite; it opened up this time with no error message. So I'm thinking it's a format issue. If contacting Amazon yields nothing and you want to avoid the Whispernet fees, you should consider using Calibre to convert the files before transferring them to the DX.

I found a way that works where I can download via USB.
If I download from Amazon Cloud to me Kindle via USB then I won't be able to open the file on my Kindle, even though I can view the book title and a picture of the book cover on my Kindle. The file looks like it transferred okay and it is AZW format.
However, when I use Logos to send-to-Kindle then Amazon auto sends me an email saying, Your Amazon Kindle Document is here. If I download from the hyperlink in that email to my Kindle via USB then it works fine.
That is an easy solution. My problem is solved. Thank you everyone for your help!

Officially, only Logos to Kindle. There are ways to send your Kindle books to Logos but that would involve breaking the DRM, which may not be legal in some jurisdictions.

When I try to link my account, I get the message "failed to link account". The logs show a problem POSTing to https://sendtokindleapi.logos.com/... When I try to do a post manually with no body, I get a 503 back. I can post the logs if needed, but thought this would probably be enough.

Is anyone able to send a resource to Kindle and have it show up in Amazon as a book rather than a document? I've tried a few resources but they all show up in Amazon as documents, they all have a generic icon vs. their book-cover icons, and non can be delivered to my phone to be read using the Kindle app as can be done with my regular Kindle books.

They all show up as documents for me, but on my phone, they do show up and with their cover image and not a generic icon.
Maybe try hitting the menu button in the upper right. There are options there to filter your library by Books, Docs, or to view All Items.
From what I understand, the only way Amazon allows 3rd parties to add books to your Kindle collection is as personal documents. I also have some programming books that are delivered this way, so I just leave my filter on All Items and otherwise forget they are personal docs.

Has anyone tried this out with a Kindle Voyage? Looks like there are some compatibility issues with books that work on other kindle devices.

This thread, (instruction for sending books to Kindle)…please amplify some on the points I raise under heading “HOW IT WORKS”…(my comments in bold),
After linking your Kindle account information with your Logos account, you can send individual books to your Kindle device from the resource panel menu (within the software). (This was possibly done, I don’t see how but, I was able to send docs to my kindle…perhaps linkage is not complete?) All bible references should open in the Lexham English Bible. (This, correct me if I’m wrong. means to have LEB as primary bible while sending books to Kindle)
A kindle.com email address must be assigned to the account (where?, in what account?) by entering “set kindle to #####@kindle.com” into the command box. (where is it?) Note: You cannot unlink your Kindle account once it has been linked. (Perhaps I haven’t done this step in linkage, I do not see the “Send to Kindle” option in his screenshot next to downloads) Please be sure to check your kindle.com address carefully before submitting. (I don’t see how this is done. Would you send short explanation or screen shot?)
Thanking you with
Blessings,
John

Should send to kindle work automatically with new products? Eg it doesn't seem to be enabled for Luther's works upgrade 2 which was released in the last week or two.
