    Greg:

Thank you. I have a question, however.  Wouldn't this be copyrighted material?  Usually this sort of document is copyrighted by the denomination and the commentary would be copyrighted by Albert Mohrer or the seminary.

Just wondering.  If there was copyright release information, I didn't see it.

Often times things like this are encouraged to be distributed as wide as possible AS long as it is fully acknowledged and it is not for sale.

    Thanks, Gregory.

  • The one and only footnote in the docx reads: "You are viewing The Baptist Faith and Message (as adopted by the SBC on June 14, 2000), along with commentary on each article, as written mainly by Southern Baptist Theological Seminary faculty. These resources are provided courtesy of the Southern Baptist Convention and Baptist Press. The individual resources have been combined into this single, convenient format by AC21DOJ."

The BF&M is copyrighted by the SBC, and the commentary is actually a series of news articles from the Baptist Press, which is the news arm of the SBC.

An online version of the BF&M, as well as a link to the commentary/news articles, is available at http://www.sbc.org/bfm/.

I also have the same material on my website at http://ac21doj.org/contents/articles/bfm2000PlusCommentary/index.html

  • I forgot to mention that the original post was flagged for review by Logos and they gave their okay on it.

    That's the most important thing.

I saw the notice about the source of the documents.  But just because the document is "provided courtesy of the SBC and Baptist Press" does not mean that one is free to duplicate it without permission. Also, just because lots of people reproduce it on their site doesn't mean that they are doing it legally/ethically. (The old line every mother has said: "If 100 people jumped off the cliff, does that mean that you would jump off the cliff, too?")  Just because something is available on the net doesn't mean that we are free to copy it and use it as we see fit without checking copyright.

A while back I wanted to produce a doc of the Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). (For historical reasons--I am not a DOC, but come from similar roots)  It was written in the 1960s and is freely available on their website.  Since it is copyrighted, I contacted their headquarters in Indianapolis.  I was turned down with no explanation.

If Logos checked it then it must be OK.

Here's an updated PBB of the BF&M. As an exercise in learning how to make Personal Books for Logos, I took your docx and did the following:

    • Added Article "Headword" milestones for quick reference
    • Fixed all the verse links that Logos fails to auto link
    • Added internal links to the Article Headword milestones (so when it talks about "see Article 11" you just hover to preview or click to go there)
    • Removed the first page's footnote (since I put it in my PBB "description").
    • Removed the hyperlinks in the doc since they weren't clickable in Logos

As I further explore PBBs (I'm a newbie) I hope to do the following:

    • Tag the authors
    • Add topic tags
    • Fix the broken hyperlinks issue

Note: I've only tested the doc with Logos 6

Roger, thank you for this!  I was about to sit down and create a document of the BF&M and make links and everything.  Then I though - maybe someone already spent the hours to format it and create links.  THANKFUL FOR YOU!

    Blessings,

This material has been posted in the Files several times in several different formats. You may wish to dig through and find the others to see which one is formatted most to your liking.
