Exegetical and Word Guides
Dear Staff,
I'm using Logos 5 upgraded from Libronix SDABC expanded with EGW writings; Windows 7.
When I try to use the Exegetical or Word guides, nothing is given. Is this because I don't have necessary resources? I have Vine's and Vincent's, E4's Heb. and Gre. Lexicons, Tense Voice Mood; etc.
I would think they would show in either of those guides.
Also, tried Topic guide. I enter word, press enter, and nothing happens.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike
Do you have any Logos 4 or 5 base packages or crossgrades?
If not, I think that will be the reason

Also, tried Topic guide. I enter word, press enter, and nothing happens.
I tried the Topic Guide using the predefined selection of:
Virgin Birth of Jesus ChristI Added Collections [[using the add down arrow]]
Then at the end of Collections I clicked on Search all resourcesIt gave me a search string of : [[into a normal search of basic, all text, all resources]]
"""heading:"Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ" OR heading:"Christmas Story" OR heading:"Virgin Birth" OR heading:"Virgin Birth of Jesus" OR heading:"Virgin Conception""""If there is no HEADING with in the resource that matches it will not show.
Question for someone else: Are Topics hard wired that is pre-looked up within some resources?
If that is true than we will only find the pre-looked up hits and not all possible hits in our library.0 -
This discussion really is not SDA specific so should be in the Logos 6 forums if you want quick attention. It is also better to create a new thread for a new question - the OP may get lost in your question/answer string. Topics are tags that associate a given place in the resource with a particular pre-defined topic. This allows alternate spelling and synonyms to be picked up which a plain search would not. In Logos 6 we have the ability to add our own topic tags (community tags). Only resources tagged with topic tags will be picked up - the list of such resources continues to grow but its primarily reference works. I'm headed out the door but Headings should have nothing to do with it and the Collection section I would expect to work off a standard search. I hope someone follows up.

Is where the question is asked in Logos 6

Dear Mr. Smith,
As stated in my first post. I'm using Logos5, not 6.
Since my Libronix SDABC expanded edition was upgraded o Logos 5, I thought my problems might be SDA specific.
As stated before, my exegetical, word, and topic guides yield no resources when I enter a passage, word, or topic. My library shows Vincent's Word Studies and E4 Greek, Hebrew, and E4 Tense, Mood... and Strong's. These guides do not seem to be using these resources.
Is this because my upgrade did not include the mechanisms to use these guides, did the upgrade not work properly, or what?
Thanks,
Mike

The Topic Guide question was Logos in general and has received some good responses in the other thread as to why many resources do not get hits.

It depends on what path you took to upgrade: upgrade the engine only (free), upgrade with purchase of datasets or purchase of a base package. The resources you mention would be most apt to appear in the exegetical guide.
Its fine to post in the SDA thread - I just wanted you to know that the Logos 5 forum was another reasonable option.

Dear Mr. Smith,
I upgraded from Libronix to Logos 5 free. Does that mean the exegetical, word and topic guides do not function in my version of Logos 5?
As stated before, when I put in a passage or word, I get no results, even though my library contains sources I would think should be the results.
Thanks,
Mike

Dear David,
Please provide link to the thread where you said many have posted about why many resources do not get hits in the Topic Guide.
Thanks,

Dear Mr. Smith,
When I select a passage for the exegetical guide it does NOT give me a view of the parsed text with greek words, etc.
Is this because I do not have a Greek Bible or interlinear?
Thanks,
Mike

You need a morphologically tagged Greek (or Hebrew) Bible in order to get the parsing.

Pretty much yes. You need the datasets and resources that are the source of information for each section of the Guide. What you see is the information from the resources you own so if you lack the resources you'll see very little or nothing.
