Chromecast and Proclaim

I've seen several posts about using Logos 5 with Chromecast, but I'm looking to see if Proclaim is looking to set up Chromecast support. Chromecast plays nice with iOS, Windows and Linux, so I can run the presentation from my PC, or our Pastor can run it from his Mac or his son could from his Linux laptop (assuming Proclaim is ever available for Linux).

So, did I miss something and there is Chromecast support? Or is it in the works?

I have not had a chance to test this, but my first instinct is to say no. As far as I know, Chromecast support is not in the works as of this moment.

I received an e-mail that the quoted post below was sent, but it is not on the forum . . .go figure, that's quite a bit of lag. Anyway, here is the quote:

We're a new church plant and don't own the building. We set up and tear down each Sunday. We aren't able to run permanent cables through the building and are doing what we can wirelessly, also we are using our personal equipment. An AppleTV has been a help, but I had to download a third party app for use with my Windows laptop to send my desktop to the AppleTV and thus to the flat screen. The app does not support sending audio alone (but sends audio if it is with a video, go figure) and there is no way to have music during the preservice slideshow that is controlled by my computer at the back of the church (my wife doesn't like sitting in front and I like to worship with her). I have the Proclaim app on my Android phone, but occasionally the worship leader likes to repeat a verse out of order, without having it in front of me on a large screen, I can't get to the slide quickly enough.

I don't run the presentation each week, Pastor's son does it on occasion and would love to use his linux laptop, but uses his dad's MacBook when he runs the presentation.

Chromecast costs $35, churches on a budget, like our new plant, can afford that.

Proclaim is a Godsend for us as we have no central offices, the Worship leader can set up the slides for the music, the pastor can set up his slides for the sermon and the announcements can be set up by someone else . . . all from their own homes.

I deleted the post right after I sent it... while I don't use Chromecast, I kind of know what it is. I was thinking of it in terms of communicating between computers - but I realized after I hit "post" that you probably meant it to communicate from either of the computers directly to the device which would be attached to the projector... so I deleted it. Sorry... trying to be helpful, but when I saw that I missed the point I deleted the post.

[:)] I was thinking also of missionaries or other traveling preachers who would be able to bring a Chromecast with them whenever they speak at churches that may not have Proclaim installed. The Chromecast dongle isn't much bigger than a flash drive, all one would need is a small netbook and a place to plug it into and someone could bring their Proclaim Presentation anywhere.

We've started using Chromecast at the church and it has been wonderful. That's why I'm here.

We realized that when we replace our ageing projector with a TV...using Chromecast would mean we wouldn't have to run wires at all! Even if Proclaim won't work with Chromecast, having Chromecast in the mix would mean being able to connect to the system with a laptop, or even a phone...that gives much more flexibility that our current system.

With Google Slides, I'm able to cast the presentation onto the Chromecast TV while having the speaker notes on my laptop, so Chromecast, apparently, is able to just cast the second screen. Would be nice if this worked with Proclaim.

Chromecast support would be a natural for Proclaim as the files are stored in the cloud and Chromecast excels at playing (as an intermediary) cloud based content. We have a projector and a flatscreen and one Chromecast (I'm planning on buying another and donating it this weekend).

As the AV tech at our new church plant we had a lot of headaches in our recent move (http://www.wnd.com/2015/01/church-gets-the-boot-by-county-government/) it would have saved a lot of work.

I also head up a ministry that helps get medical supplies to medical missionaries (www.medmatmin.org) and being able to take a Chromecast and a laptop on trips when I speak saves a lot of logistical problems. I can use Google Slides but am very familiar with Proclaim and would prefer to use it.

Chromecast has an experimental option to cast your entire desktop. I don't know how well it works, but looks like you can try it out by simply clicking the Chromecast button in Chrome and choose "Cast entire screen (experimental)".

I've tried that, it casts both the primary and secondary screens side by side [:P]

Proclaim also has a way to send your presentation to a browser, which kind of worked since I can send any tab to the Chromecast, but you don't get any animations with this.

I'm really just hoping that Proclaim looks into native Chromecast support or that the devs @ Chromecast add an option for casting secondary monitor (I've asked them to)

We would like to be able to chromecast to a secondary monitor - we have a loungeroom for mums with bubs and would like to be able to play the slides there. It already has sound but would be nice to be able to see the slides as well.

I followed the instructions at the link and currently am not hooked up to a second monitor but when I click on Settings and Display in Proclaim you can see that I have a second one. Click identify to see which monitor is which, probably your projection screen would be #2 and the Chromecast would be #3. Hope this helps
