E-Readers that Support Logos books?

Are there any e-readers that can be used to read Logos books?  I realize an Amazon Kindle wouldn't work but how about a Nook or a Kobo?  I did a search on the forums and didn't find much.  I have the Vyrso app on my iPad, but I really don't enjoy reading from an iPad.

Suggestions appreciated!

Actually, for the vast majority of Logos books a Kindle works quite well. If you have Logos 6 there is an option to send a book to the kindle.

I have Logos 6, but didn't realize it would do such a thing.  I'll have to dig into the program and see how exactly to get it done.

That depends on whether you just want to read the books - then Kindle is ahead of the others, since "send to Kindle" is unique, there's no "send to Nook" or "send to Kobo" since AFAIK there's no respective platform environment. You may still export the books and transfer them to such a device, which may include necessary format conversion with a tool such as Calibre. In all these cases, including send-to-Kindle you take the book out from the Logos/Vyrso environment into that of your device, which may support basic highlighting but nothing else in terms of Logos functionality. E.g. any hightlights you make on the device won't sync back to Logos version.

If you want to read the book on the e-reader with (much of) the Logos functionality intact, you would need to use a device running a fairly recent version of Android and allowing installation of apps. There are not many devices in this realm, some forum users point to the Boox T68 Lynx. (Note that this kind of devices are new and may have some issues - and since their marketshare is still so small, Faithlife can't recognize them in their Android development. Thus it seems some versions of the Android app use a hardware-based display acceleration which is not present on e-ink devices and breaks some functionality. Using Logos apps on e-readers seems to be an experimental thing)

I just want to read the books in an e-reader -- I have no interest in getting any of the features of Logos to work on it.  In the past I've read .pdf files on an e-reader, and that wasn't too appealing.  I just want the text of the Logos book to be readable in the e-reader.

In that case, you'll love "Send to Kindle".

The $79 Kindle works great... I used one all last year and still use it now... but I was able to pick up a paperwhite which allows me to read at night as well. The Paperwhite is worth the added expense if that isnt a concern. A friend has the Voyage and raves about it, but I think that is a bridge too far for me. The biggest advantage from what I can tell (I haven't held one) is that it is thinner and lighter than the paperwhite.

If cost is a concern, I wouldn't hesitate with the cheaper model. Also, you can use a service like camelcamelcamel to track the price and set an alert to notify you of a price drop.

I've used Nook for quite sometime and over a year ago upgraded to the Nook HD+ 9".  I have no problem with it.  I also have the Toshiba Thrive 10".  Both work fine for my away for PC experience.  I recently upgraded to HTC 1 (M8) phone and it also works wonderfully.  Just wish Logos would load completely to SD card, 128 gigs would be more than enough room if I could figure out the loading to SD.

    Hi Roger! [:)]

It sounds like you have comments and questions regarding the android mobile apps. You will be better able to get help and find answers in the android forum. I think what you are wanting to do is called "side loading," but I don't have any experience with that. Sorry!

Realize that any of the Android based e-readers that use the Google Play Store can read LOGOS books.  This is also true for the Kindle Fires using Amazon's store.  I don't enjoy studying from these environments, but reading works well.  You can have two books open concurrently (e.g. Bible and commentary).

    Floyd,

I think the OP defined e-readers as those who use e-ink or comparable technology - Kindle Fire, which I personally use, doesn't qualify since it's a tablet (same as iPad, but with another OS). AFAIK the number of Android based e-readers that use Google Play Store or allow loading of apps without rooting the device probably amounts to three or so. Even with rooting, this will not increase much, since e-readers that use a recent-enough version of Android are somehwat rare.

I've tried Logos with "Send to Kindle" -- it only produces a pdf file on the Kindle.  Pdf files are usually hard to read, and the size can't be changed.  I'd be better off using Vyrso on my iPad.

I think you're using the Send to Kindle print driver provided by Amazon. That's not what we're talking about. Logos 6 has native send to kindle functionality. Check out the link I provided above.

The send to Kindle feature alone is worth the price of the Logos 6 package.  I've never been so pleased with a feature of the software.

I'll have to look deeper into Logos 6.  I have it, but haven't used that feature yet.

Again, just make sure you follow Mark's link above. The "send to kindle" isn't difficult, but you will need to set it up first. Faithlife is using the ability to send "documents" to your Kindle's email address so that books will appear on that device automatically. As has been said, this isn't a "PDF" option... they are eBooks... Not quite as good as having a Kindle eBook, but you can adjust the size, sync between devices, make "highlights" (Kindle ones, not Logos ones), etc.

I managed to get the Logos 6 "send to Kindle" feature functioning last night.  It is simply fantastic!!!  I was getting reluctant to purchase books for my Logos library, because I couldn't use a decent e-reader with them.  Problem solved!

The Logos 6 designers outdid themselves with this addition.  I can't say enough good things about it!  [:)]

Thanks everyone, for all the tips on how to use it.

Yes, it does send just one book at a time.  More than one book however, can be sent to a Kindle.  I'm very grateful.

    lol.

Yes, it does send an entire book. It works well and there isn't anything I am aware of that Faithlife needs to "Keep working at it"
