Logos website: Odd search results on products page

I tried searching for TLOT (the Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament) on the products search page. It wasn't found (no biggie -- but still would be nice if you could search the website using the same abbreviations that are allowed in searching the Logos Library). But the odd part was that the website "corrected" what it thought was a typo and proposed a search for the word "plot" instead. Weird!

We can force search results to the top of the list for any abbreviation or search string at all. As you come across words or abbreviations that you feel should be included in the search results, feeel free to post them here and I will make sure they are added. Now that I know you can do this so easily, here's another one that I've come across that was frustrating: Search for ivp new testament series (or ivp new testament commentary series; or even just new testament series) and the top several hits are individual volumes in the ivp new testament commentary series. I'd like to see the complete series itself be the top hit. As it is now you don't even come to that until page 2 of the hits (for that first search example).

OK, here's another: nt commentary survey (looking for Baker Academic's New Testament Commentary Survey by D.A. Carson); it comes up as the second hit, while the first hit doesn't even have the word survey in its title, so it shouldn't have matched as strongly. "NT" should be considered equivalent to "New Testament" in all searches on the site, and the fact that MacArthur's NT Commentaries collection happens to abbreviate it in its title shouldn't make it a stronger match than a title that has every keyword I was searching for. Maybe this is something you'll have to approach on a title-by-title basis, but if there's any way that synonym (and of course OT for Old Testament) can be built into the search capabilities, that would save you a lot of individual tweaking.

Hi Dan, this one isn't really a search result thing but it's a textual issue on a products page on the website: The pre-pub for the Hebrew Pronunciation Addin still says it is currently available only for Libronix 3.0. But surely if this is still under development it's going to work with L4, isn't it? Just like the Greek Pronunciation Addin does? Someone else was wondering/worried about this.

Dan, I came across another of the search hit prioritization issues:

Search for the bible guide, and The Bible Guide is returned as the 5th hit. The first three hits don't even have any of those words in their title. If you search for bible guide (i.e., without the "the"), The Bible Guide comes back as the 7th hit, with none of the books above it having "Guide" in their title.

Google suggests that the more common spelling of that is Tosefta (however it does have plenty of reputable hits for Tosephta so the Logos website should have it in its word list; I'm not sure they have the capability to do "sounds-like" searches, though). If you search on logos.com for Tosefta you'll find one book, Introduction to Rabbinic Literature, which is only available in the pre-pub bundle Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library. It's spelled Tosefta in the description there.

It would be really nice for more English translations of the rabbinical literature--it's been eye opening to read the English Mishnah as linked from NICNT while studying Mark. I've got other books similar to the AYBRL's Rabbinic Lit, but even though they contain/comment on the parts of the various documents that I'd like to read, they don't pull up from NICNT. I suppose that I could get creative with collections & the cited by tool perhaps...maybe on a rainy day ;-)

I was surprised that when I clicked on a hyperlink reference from NICNT to something I didn't have unlocked, it didn't do anything...I'd think that Logos would at least call up their web site product page to stimulate a purchase. I used to browse the "locked" resources in Logos 3's library to similar effect. I've also seen a lot of text-only references to "further research" material from commentaries...would be nice to have a focus within Logos to identify/digitize those items too. Of course, I'm already grossly over-committed in resource purchases. Darn those pre-pubs...

Yup, that's the one. I love it that "I can't find the thread where someone from Logos discussed this..." works just as well as a Google search on this forum. Just sends a Googloid off finding the info for you. [;)] Truth was I probably could have found it if I'd searched (I'm often the Googloid in these situations), but I didn't have time and figured people would trust me that I had seen it.
