That simply isn't (and wasn't) the case. You may have had issues, but they were unrelated to the presence (or absence) of the .docx file.

That may in fact be true. But there is no causal relationship as that is not how it behaves for others. What we would have to do to determine the cause of this oddity is to watch your work habits and see what else you are doing, quite likely along side the placing of the .docx file in the directory, that makes this true.
Basically, the process works this way (I think):
- When you compile a PB, the metadata is synced across your installations.
- You may chose to upload the PB to the cloud.
When you are on another installation you may do either of these - depending upon the upload status.
- You may download the PB from the cloud via logos.documents
- You may transfer the .docx file into the same directory it was in on the other machine and recompile the PB retaining the same metadata - this may use a dropbox or the Microsoft cloud ...

Well, you guys are all right, because I just tried with a sample document and then deleted the docx file after building the book, and it still exists in Logos. Here's the thing, though. The whole reason I began using dropbox was specifically because someone else (I assume on one of these forums) had the same problem I did and recommended using dropbox. I had never even heard of dropbox. So ever since then, I had always assumed that this problem always existed, and I never questioned my system until today, when I saw the "upload" button. I'm glad this isn't an issue anymore--or, possibly, that it never was.
I feel like I'm on LOST on my consciousness is going back and forth between 2010 and 2015.

Glad you have it squared away. [Y] [:)]

So I did my first upload yesterday - but went wrong with building the book first. Now I have two copies on the the same PB on my desktop.
L6 won't let me delete the copy in the Utilities/Personal Book panel (is this a BUG because I have uploaded as well!).
I thought then, if I deleted the uploaded copy then I could then delete the Built Book and start again. BUT I don't know where to find the Uploaded book to delete it.
any ideas?

Did you try using the hidden book feature?

thank you, that sorted the duplication out quite simply.
But for future reference, how do you delete an uploaded book (for example, you get an updated version, or you decide to remove it)? it doesn't seem to be possible.

As with other resources, one deletes by hiding.

It is not possible other than hiding it, as MJ said. (I'm Mr Redundant today.)

Seriously - there is no way to sync up my personal books to my Logos iOS app?

Hi Michael - and welcome to the forums

That is currently the case - personal books are not supported on the mobile platforms.

The mobile apps will need an update to recognize personal books. I have no idea when that update might happen.

I was under the impression that the upload feature was added so that we could sync up with mobile devices such as my iPad. I also thought that some people have had success by uninstalling Logos on their tablet then reinstalling it. That didn't work for me and so I am continuing to search for answers.

It is hoped that Personal Book sync will be added to the iPad/iPhone apps at some point in the future, but that's not certain.

Sorry, that isnt the case. Syncing is a prerequisite to mobile access, but not the purpose. Syncing is currently for access between desktop installations.

After our training I was very excited about this feature as I was hoping to scan and import a lot of my personal library into this software - but I, too, worry about the 20MB cap, as I have a lot of books that I am guessing (once I get scanned in, would be over that. I also have some I was hoping to have high quality scans done as I really wanted to make sure the images were captured well (which would mean a hefty file size). I have to agree with the "cheapness" of storage these days, a 20MB cap seems pretty small given the price of the software itself - as good as it is. Perhaps, as one suggested, a way of integrated "local storage" for those files so they aren't uploaded to your servers - even if it means downloading them on each computer and using your servers as a "temporary storage" and have them delete from there once they download/sync.
I also have a few other questions:
Is there a way to import OCR optimized PDF's instead of Word Documents?
Can we add categories I have a bunch of scanned articles I would like to add, but that isn't a category listed.
Somewhat separate question, is there a way to suggest books for you to add/develop as actual resources to purchase?
Many thanks!
Chris

The Type field is restricted and you should use Monograph (or Magazine/Journal); if this is what you meant by "category".
However, under Add Field choose Subject Heading as below:-
After Building the book you can filter your Library for "Testing" with subject:testing (or subject:"Scanned Articles")

No. The content has to be in a docx file.

I am running Logos on 2 computers. Both are Windows PCs (Win7 and Win10). I built a personal book on 1 computer, but it is too large to upload. Do I have to rebuild that same book on my second computer? Or can I just copy a Personal Book Logos file (not the original docx file) to a flash drive and transfer it to my second computer? If so, where would I find that file on my PC?

Alabama24 is always helpful [thanks] but there is one advantage of moving the docx file to the other machine and rebuilding the PBB there. You then KNOW that you have a working backup of the docx file as you have used that backup to create the PBB on the second machine.

Absolutely. The link below shows what I do:

YOu can also, if you have network access to the resource folder of the original computer that built the PB, do a SCAN of the Resources folder on that computer - this approach does not give the feature of a source backup of your personal book file, but if you are making changes to multiple PBs and lose track of what needs to be updated on another computer, it will catch any compiled files that are later. If you don't have network access, you can just copy your Resources folder to a thumb/USB drive and SCAN it from your Logos/Verbum app.

Personal Book Sync allows you to automatically download compiled personal books on other desktop installations.
If personal books can now be uploaded to the Logos servers, is it now also possible to share them with a Faithlife group? It is my understanding that various other types of documents can be shared (see https://documents.logos.com/), but I don't see my personal books that have been uploaded.

No unfortunately not (or: not yet). compiled PBs are no Logos documents, but resources and thus don't show on documents.logos.com and can't be shared among users.
Have joy in the Lord!

Thanks, Faithlife, for this helpful enhancement, quite useful indeed.
As far as I can tell, the logos help file has not been updated with matching instructions yet. I know uploading is not complicated, but it would be good for those who have not read this thread and wonder what upload does to have explanation in the PBB section of the help file.

Are you thanking them for something more than a year old, or for something new?

Something old. Better late than never. The same goes for updating the help file.

Is this feature lasting I thought I had read somewhere it was going to phased out. I may be confused by something else though.
