[resolved] Fonts Faithlife uninstalled in 6.3
I attempted to take all the fonts Faithlife posted that are used here and may have been uninstalled:

I went thru all the pages posted there, and took the font files only and put them in the attached zip file. Download this file, extract all the files to a folder, and under Windows selct all the files, right click and "Install". If needed, it installs them, if a font is already installed it will prompt if you want to reinstall or not (you can just say no).
I think I got all the fonts, if you find I missed one/some, just update the zip file and re-post please!

This is very gracious! I think I will wait until someone tells me where the fonts folder is. I can then restore it from a backup and know I have everything. The solution you offer will only get me the fonts Logos thinks need to be there. I use these fonts on other programs so there may be ones of which Logos is unaware. It would be really interesting to know why Logos did this. Of course, I only have myself to blame for allowing Logos control of my computer to do the update but I thought Logos could be relied upon to not damage the operation of other programs. Maybe it was just a new programmer who did not consider that other programs would share the font files. I'm sure there was no harmful intent.

Under Windows the fonts are all in Windows\System\Fonts - you can select/copy all the fonts there and zip them, as a special backup, at any time. You do have to "install" new fonts per instructions in my first post, in order for the system to see new fonts - you can't just copy the font files into that folder.
Nancy - what happened was some fonts got uninstralled by the install of Logos/Verbum 6.3 because those installs have the fonts embedded sindie the progra - not taking into account that other programs might use those fonts (Word, Powerpoint etc., if you copy text from Logos to those programs). This is why Faithife posted the fact page I included in my first post.

Moderator,
I have found my backups for the c:\windows\system\font folder (1031 files vs current 961). How do I put these back in? Just copy them in? How does one "install" them? If I read the first note correctly, I need to copy them to the desk top and click to install over 1000 files! No, there must be a better way than this. Is there a way to do a compare to find the lost files and therefore only have to manually install 70 files?
Will someone explain to me whether Logos did a very careful cleaning of the fonts folder (such that the files listed in the Logos page might be the only fonts destroyed) or whether it just deleted anything but a certain number of fonts that it deemed necessary?
Don, thanks for your help but in my view this is a Logos problem. Your willingness to help is overwhelming but I fear we need the people who did this to step up to the table and offer assistance. They are the pros and presumably understand font files much better than either of us. You did not create this situation!

Sorry, there is no moderator. However, I can report that the Logos install left my South Asian and logic fonts untouched.

NIck, SBL files should be there. Let me know if you see specific ones that are not there.
As I said earlier, you CANNOT just copy new fonts in. You have to install them.
Also, you do not have to install all files one at a time. In Windows you can click on the first file in the folder list, hold the Shift key down, scroll down and click on the last file to select them all (or hit Control-A to select all). Then right click, and click on install in the context menu. It installs very fast.
Logos uninstalled the fonts they thought were only used by them - because they are internal to the program now. I Have no reason to believe, or have I experienced that any other fonts are missing.
As for Logos dealing with this, I pulled these files from the web page they set up to describe how to restore your fonts. THeir way is more thorough, as someone may not want all fonts - I don't see the issue with installing all of them - all I did was just collect all the fonts and put them into a font file.

Thanks for your help. It may be that they removed only certain classes of fonts (e.g., Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Cuniform (sp?), etc.) If they did it by class, then Logos does not know what was eliminated. Hopefully, it was done only by specific enumeration. Unfortunately, I have a David series that seems to be missing and I does not seem to be in Logos's restore set.
In the past there have been moderators or at least Logos people watching. Let's see if we don't get some help within the next 24 hours. They are usually pretty good at answering questions that are left unanswered. I only had one case where they did not respond and in that case when it was pointed out 6 months later an apology was provided.

I believe that my David font series disappeared and is not in your replacement set. Same with the SBL series (unless it is under another name). We will see how they deleted the files and take it from there.

Correct me if I am wrong, but unless Logos addresses this the next update will just strip the files away again and we will have to download and install the fonts again. This is ridiculous!

There seem to be a couple misconceptions about what happened in this case and what will happen going forward.
With 6.2 and prior releases we included an installer for prerequisits (required to run the application). For 6.3 we removed the prereqs installer because it interfered with our auto update process.
Uninstalling the prereqs also removed any fonts that we had installed with a previous prereqs install. It doesn't remove any fonts other than fonts that we specifically attempted to install with the prereqs at an earlier point in time. To my knowledge all fonts that we were installing are referenced on the support page.
When you update after having installed 6.3 we will not need to uninstall the prereqs (because they've already been uninstalled). Because we don't uninstall them we will not uninstall (or install) fonts.
We were aware that these fonts may be used by applications outside of our application. We were not aware of the number of people who used them outside of the app. On the mac we've never installed fonts (which is why these conversations usually don't include mac users).
We proactively created a support page with information about how to find fonts that are needed for work outside of Logos. I will talk to the support team about the possibility of adding sample images to that page so you can more easily figure out which fonts you are looking for.

I just downloaded Don Awalt's font collection and installed it as he recommended. I had three duplicates. All went well and my Excel word study files seem to be working as in the past. Don has done us all a great service and deserves to be commended. I am going to suggest to Bob Pritchet that he be given a substantial Logos gift certificate!
Ryan Gano's explanation of what the real cause of this difficulty was very insightful. It turned out that my IP explanation was totally incorrect! We users just do not have enough info to make good guesses.

For me, I've downloaded and installed, closed Logos (and Word) and reopened... and still when I open the Copy window it's in a funky Hebrew font instead of SBL Hebrew, and it copies into Word in Times New Roman instead of SBL Hebrew.

Please use the "Download from SBL" link at https://www.logos.com/support/logos6/windows/missing-fonts to download the SBL Hebrew (and optionally, SBL Greek) font from SBL.

I find your report baffling. I tried copying a paragraph of BHS 4.2 (SBL Hebrew font displayed) in two ways. 1. selected text in the Logos pane, ^c, ^v into a word document and it came across as it has always in the past, in SBL Hebrew (which I checked by opening the paragraph, font dialogue). 2. by using the ^p copy pane and exporting it to a new word file. That too worked. I don't know what to say other than trying a reboot which should not be necessary.

Thanks for going to all that trouble. Here's what I do:
I'm in the Word doc, I press Ctrl+Alt+B, bringing up the copy window, I enter Psalm 5:x (whatever), select AFAT or BHS (doesn't seem to matter. Right there, what displays in that window at that point, is not a font I've ever used.
Then when I click the Copy and Paste button, it pastes into my Word doc in Times New Roman, rather than SBL Hebrew.

First, note that the e-mail version of your reply is different from the on line version!!! (Alt is missing in e-mail version).
When I tried it, the fonts worked fine for me. Is there some system setting involved somewhere?

Yes, I forgot the Alt and quickly returned and edited it in.
Well, it's changed for me. It never did this before. What system setting would account for that?
Only thing I haven't done since reinstalling the fonts is reboot, so I'll try that now. Let you know if it changes anything.

I see it too, this is NOT a problem of uninstalled SBL fonts.
When I bring up BHS to Gen 2:19, then bring up CBV, the font is what Word reports as Arial - you will see how I know that in these screen shots. You can see in this first screen shot of CBV that it is clearly not a Hebrew font, yet I have SBL installed as you can see in BHS; look at the difference between the two fonts in this picture, it should be obvious something is wrong:
If I do copy and paste, it goes into Word as Arial, even when bringing up a blank Word document with a default font as Calibri. Note in this screen shot it pasted in and still shows the default Word document font as Calibri:
However that font is Arial, as you can see when I click into the text in this screen shot:
HOWEVER, if instead of Copy and Paste in CBV of the bad Arial font I just do Copy and then do a "Paste Options/Keep Source Formatting" from the right click context menu in Word , I get proper SBL Hebrew font, meaning Logos/Verbum is writing the proper font to the clip board (Windows 7):
And I do have SBL Hebrew font installed, as you can see here:
So the question is, why does CBV display in Arial, and why does Copy and Paste to Word use Arial font?

Yep, Don, that font you're seeing in the right of the first screenshot is what I see in the copy window.
