Any chance of getting a fuel gauge progress indicator for import ...
Hopefully (for non-beta users) importing from LDLS3 is something that only has to be run once.
While it would certainly be helpful for people who are testing the feature for us—thank you, by the way—investing development time on polishing the interface of a single-use feature is somewhat hard to justify.

Jacob,
I wasn't looking for anything polished, just a crude one to use during testing would be helpful.
Thanks,
Paul

Bradley, I get a windows error when starting L4 after loading Beta 3. Any suggestions?
Attached are my log files.
Well upon further testing if I start L4 with CTRL pressed and select blank layout L4 will start, but if I go to Home L4 stops working and the program closes. I can select another layout to go to and it functions on the grid fine. Unfortunately, I can't access the Customize setting (this really should also be accessible in Program Settings) so I can't avoid the startup issue with the Home Page (this is a "real" problem).
The Bug fix for the Amplified Bible not appearing in Basic Search "By Book" when searching for "Nephilim" is definitely fixed. Thanks Logos.
The removal of the notes and re-importing of them seems to be fine. Will need to take more time, but they seem better than the original import on Beta 2.
Hopefully my attached log files will point to something, but the crashing on startup because it is trying to access the Home page is a big annoyance, especially when demonstrating L4. I know this will be reviewed and fix, hopefully sooner than later.

This looks like a previously-unknown problem in the Home Page; I have filed a bug report. I think the only option for now is to keep holding down CTRL at startup. The Home Page initialises itself differently every day, so it's possible that it will just start working tomorrow.
Your point that "Customize" in the Home Page can't be accessed if the Home Page doesn't load is a good one; I will log that in our bug database too.

Well the Home Page may initialize every morning, but it bombed out just like it did after I loaded Beta 3 (worked perfectly before that). I get a Logos Bible Software 4 has stopped working error. So something seems to have become corrupted with the last Beta. I did an update resources and rebuild index to see if either of those would have an affect. Neither did anything.
I can still use CTRL to get to the Signon screen to choose a blank layout and all goes well then. Once up I can choose any layout but still no Home Page. Was wondering if there was some file that is built pertaining to Home Pages that could be deleted and rebuilt? (Just checking).
Note: I usually start L4 full screen, but using CTRL to start it always come in as a smaller window. Is this a normal design?

I have the same issue. All of my imported note headings stayed but the content was deleted. I am going through and deleting the note files and then will try a new "Import Notes".
that's what i had to do... the "import delete notes" command just emptied the files... i manually deleted the files, did an import & all was well

To clear up some confusion - Import delete Notes will only delete the notes, not the document. This is by design. Running Import Notes after deleting will repopulate the document.
Minor glitch in imported notes:
If the original note is a note on a selection and that selection includes headings and tables and such, the text is run together without spaces. Thus a note on Calvin's Commentaries: Zechariah that is on the text:
Chapter 9
Zechariah 9:1
1. The burden of the word of the Lord in ......
Ends up with a note title
Chapter 9Zechariah 9:11. The burden of the word of the Lord
Which, as you can see is a bit confusing. The concatenated blocks of text should get a space between them to avoid such confusion. (In case someone doesn't get what I mean right away: the note is not on Zechariah 9:11.)

Any word on this problem with the Home Page failing to start?

It will be fixed in Beta 4, but we don't have a workaround until then.

Any time frame for Beta 4 [:$]?
BTW: Thanks for all your efforts Bradley and everyone else at Logos. Can never say it enough, really! [:D]

Well Bradley I was able to get a work around by being able to click on Customize on and uncheck show Home Page before Logos 4 failed and shutdown. So now I can get Logos 4 to startup to my last layout without pressing the CTRL key. As long as I stay away from the Home tab I'm good. Which might be why a number of folks here aren't seeing the issue because they turned off the Home Page on startup. Nice to know that this will be addressed in Beta 4.
Just wanted to provide and update.

If I download the beta and mess around with it, can I return to the regular L4 version afterward?
No, Logos 4.0b can't be downgraded to Logos 4.0a (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8883.aspx). You can create a separate Windows user account and install the beta under that if you want to try it out. (Some brave users install the beta on their primary account and create a separate account for 4.0a, in case they need to go back to it.) If you want help setting up a separate account, please post a new thread; there are many very helpful fellow users and Logos employees on this forum who would be glad to help you get the beta set up.
Any further information regarding the optionality (or otherwise) of the Bible Index would be appreciated.
There are currently no plans to make it optional. (I plan to run some performance tests here to judge its effectiveness; I'll make a recommendation on keeping it, deleting it, or making it optional based on my results.)
I did the import delete notes and reimported them but I cannot tell what the difference is.
See http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8985.aspx for some examples of differences in importing formatting between Beta 2 and Beta 3.
4.0b Beta 3 (v4.02.3.5178) is now available for testing; enter "update now" to begin downloading it.
Downloaded and running properly after removing & reimporting notes. I'll put it through it's paces tomorrow.

Q on the parallel resources.
When my commentaries show up in the parallel resources; they show up in several collection sets; one of these sets has the check mark by it...but I can't get the check mark to move to be on the commentary collection that I want....how do you switch it?

I noted that this wasn't intuitive on an earlier thread. I though clicking on the heading would move the check mark. Actually, selecting a book from an alternative set moves the checkmark (and also of course changes the resource).
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

thanks for that bit of info...and as to it's design...no comment [:|]

Install was quick and painless. However, it ran very clumsy all night, even after rebooting. Tabs took a long time to activate. Parallel Resources were slow and cause graphic corruption on their tabs and book covers. However, when I got up this morning, everything was snappy again. It was almost like indexing was going on last night, though there was no icon indication of that going on.

I am still finding overall performance quite sluggish. I have been using Beta 3 all day and find wait time and general responsiveness pretty painful. I thought maybe we could compare our "Microsoft performance ratings" and see if there is a common denominator. I have 2GB of RAM but after analysis, Memory does not seem to be the bottleneck. I never seem to use more than 1.4 GB. The CPU usage however is quite high when I attempt logos searches, etc. From the Microsoft report it seems that my graphic card has some issues, but I wouldn't expect this to cause a problem. what are you folks seeing... I have 2.1Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, 7200RPM drive
I rolled my install back to B2...I found B3 to be sluggish in typing, searches, and just general feel...

Interesting. B2 was unusable for me - typing was unbelievably slow. B3 seems to be much better.

Pastor Fred,
I posted on another post at the forum; Logos seems to be very succeptable to your specific hardware/software config.
I've noticed that if I install something or make a change to my laptop...Logos can get downright stuttery...
Then I roll back to a previous time...when Logos was younger and the software was not installed, and all is well..
It could be the other software and not Logos...but I noticed that for me, B3 was generally less responsive..
It's frustrating that there isn't a clear pattern from user to user, machine to machine, or anything...

Logos crashes when adding Visual Filter Files to Favorites Folders...
I can't reproduce this. Please post more detailed steps to reproduce this problem, and a log file of the crash.
I open the "Favorites" panel --> I go back to "File" and find an existing "Visual Filter" --> I drag the filter item to the folder (hover around a little) --> dropt the item in the folder --> crash.
Sometimes the crash occurs when I select the "file menu" sometimes a second after the item is dropped, sometimes while I am hovering.
Here is the log file...6747.Logos4.log">http://community.logos.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Discussions.Components.Files/78/6747.Logos4.log:550:0]
Here is a video...
B3 install went great. No indexing required (Woo-hoo)!
Initial impression of opening to my preferred layout is that it isn't quite as slow as predecessors.
1st load of home page still took 30 seconds... and that's AFTER I already had Logos up & running (it auto-opens to my preferred layout).
That's a LONG time to the welcome!
Grace & Peace,
Bill
