Reading Lists for m.Ed Courses as Progress Checklists

Inspired by what MJ has done with creating a checklist for Verbum Practicum course I have started using the reading list tool to create checklists for you to track your progress through m.Ed. courses.

I have currently setup lists for LT151,PD101 & PD102. I'll post back as I complete more lists.

To use just open Reading lists from the Tool Menu in Logos/Verbum and in the Find box search for the course code to find and open the reading list and use it to check off your progress in the course.

A couple examples below. If there is a course you are working on currently and want me to make it a priority in getting the reading list completed please let me know and I'll move it up to the top of my list.

Thanks for letting us know. I've been in touch with the publishers and they were able to supply me with a corrected file. This new file has been processed and the update should download next time you log into your Logos Software Miles.

Just a quick note that I have updated the reading list for LT151 to fix a few minor issues and I am in progress with creating a reading list for LT161 - it has 238 individual segments along with the quizzes and exams so is a much bigger project. Started it last weekend and will post back here when it is available.

Since Logos shows DIY Bible Study (see https://www.logos.com/product/46350/diy-bible-study ) under the new Courses section on the home page together with the m.Ed courses and the old Moody AM Courseware, I thought it might be helpful to expand the summary list into two sections: Mobile.Ed and others.

I also added a new Reading List which tracks progress through DIY Bible Study and sits under the 'others' section in the summary list. I personally find DIYBS underused by myself, but I want to tackle genres and books as they come in my other studies (and then use more than ten minutes), not in a daily consecutive way. A Reading List therefore supports actually using this resource more than a reading plan.

I've added a reading list for OT101 mobile ED course. Hope you don't mind Mick but I have also changed the name of the main list to be simply "Courseware Reading Lists". I have done so to reflect the fact it there is other courseware outside of m.Ed like you have pointed out. Also removed reference to Logos simply so to make it more reflective of the fact that courseware is used by not only Logos users but also Verbum users and possibly NOET users. I'm not sure if Noet app offers courseware functionality but think it probably should if it does not as I think there is a whole range of courseware that could be offered under that branding.

I don't mind at all. I took the chance to add a RL for Look at the Book Labs (John Piper exegetical videos, mainly treating Romans 8/9), as long as they're in my Logos Now this month. Since the resource comes completely void of a ToC or index, the RL may help some to find stuff.

I think we are doing slightly different formats here: the existing lists point towards sections of the course content itself, whereas yours points to the "suggested reading" and "see also" resources, i.e. giving the links contained in those sections. The existing format tracks progress trough the course, whereas your list tracks progress through the additional reading material of the course. This is great (in absence of such a list, I used green highlighter for this task), but probably we should have two different lists per course.

To your question: linking to a resource is easy, just use logosres:XXXXXXX with the internal name of it (if you don't know that, the easies way for here is t look into the spreadsheet shared with the group, it contains these names). Linking to a specific position of an unowned resource is a bit trickier. Maybe the existing links from the course or the associated notes file can be copied - I'll try to have a look into that later today or tomorrow.

i take the readings as significant content. without then at times the depth of content in the courses would be lacking. That's not to downplay importance of what speaker has to say I just think both components contribute to the whole learning experience. Yes the readings are in the note files. I also thought of that but those files are not structured in anyway whereas a reading list would provide the readings in correct order. And it is their content to choose to publish in that way but to me that does not mean I have permission to publish it for others in an easy to use structured format. As I said though it's just my opinion and not saying anyone has done the wrong thing, but I personally don't feel comfortable doing it so choose not to include the actual readings. Like you I use a higighter, a custom one that places a check mark beside the reading.

Thanks Greg. As I said I'm not saying you have done anything wrong, I just think its a grey area, and at the end of the day we only have a license for personal use. So personally I feel uncomfortable publishing what I see as course content, regardless of what FL may have done in the user groups - it is their privilege to do so as it is their content but what they do doesn't make it my privilege. If they come out and say it's ok then I'd be perfectly fine with it.

I too wish the speakers at times would comment more on the readings Mick, at times they are in direct contrast with the speaker says - that is good because it adds breadth as well as depth to the topic - which is why I see the reading lists as not just reading lists but content - but I do wonder whether all of the readings are actually ones recommened by the speaker or at least some of the reading list for the courses are actually put together by the Logos in-house scholars.

Thanks Mark, and I agree subheadings is better, I wasn't happy with the way i had originally done these and actually experimented with sub-headings this morning with one of the courses and then noticed you had done the same. I've updated a few of the reading lists now to have subheadings, easier to follow and makes much more sense as you dont' need a check box for a Unit Heading, you only need check boxes for the individual sections and quizzes and exams.

I've added the two new languages courses - Learn to Use Greek / Hebrew now and re-arranged all of the subject headings in Alphabetical order which I think as we build this list will make it easier to find a course. The only exception is I've left the Logos Training Courses at the top as I think this should be the starting point for a new user and so should be easy to find.

I completely understand, and didn't take it that way at all and I appreciate your comments.

On the more general subject of the reading in the courses, I am quite surprised there isn't something in the course itself that indicates when a reading has been completed (especially as you click "Done" when you finish it - something like a check mark next to it or changing the colour of the link.

I do also wonder if it's FL folks who choose the readings: I have found those so far to be slightly repetitive, repeating what a previous reading said. I would also like the tutor to engage a bit more with some of the readings. For example, in this course the readings refer quite a lot to the references to the earthquake in Amos, which the tutor doesn't seem to mention at all.

I am, however, enjoying the course - this is the first Mobile Ed course I've done and I've been pleasantly surprised at the way it gets me quite deeply into the material. I would probably like rather longer segments from the tutor, but that might well be the case with some of the other courses.
