Robert Milligan (1814-1875)
Prominent second-generation scholar and educator in the Stone-Campbell Movement.  Robert Milligan's life as a teacher, thinker & author was associated both with Kentucky (Cane Ridge and Lexington) and with Bethany (WV) Сollege.  In both geographical centers he consciously carried on the work of the first generation of reformers, and his own influence carried well beyond his death in 1875. He taught at Washington College, B(1850-1852), Indiana Univ (1852-1854), and Bethany College (1854-1859). He accepted the presidency of Kentucky University (now Transylvania University) in 1859 and served as president until 1866.  When the University moved to Lexington, he remained to teach at the College of the Bible until his death.  He served a brief term as co-editor of the Millennial Harbinger--alongside Alexander Campbell, Robert Richardson & W.K. Pendleton.  His writings include Reason & Revelation (1867), Scheme of Redemption (1868), and Epistle to the Hebrews (1875).  --Excerpted from The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement.
