BI301 resource no longer available

BI301 links to The Moody Handbook of Theology (MHNDTHEO) which doesn't exist on the store.

It appears that the resource will be replaced by a new 25th anniversary edition, but that is still in Pre-Pub.

BI301 just shipped a couple of weeks ago, yet it's impossible to do one of the readings, unless you happen to have already owned the older edition.

While the Mobile Ed courses mention that they recommend Logos Platinum, almost every course has resources which were found in L6 Platinum, but are no longer bundled in L7 Platinum.

L7 even shipped with courses which requires resources that were bundled with L6, but aren't bundled with L7. Did we save on the courses by getting them as part of a base package? Yes. Will we have to pay a premium for their resources now, since they are no longer bundled/discounted? Yes, unless we wait for those items to eventually go on sale, or show up in a future bundle.

Perhaps FL should offer a special "L6 Platinum Library" bundle now, so new Mobile Ed customers who never owned (L6) Platinum won't be penalized by having to pay a premium for many of the resources that used to come with Platinum.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

I share your frustration with resources being put up for readings in mobile Ed course yet this resource is no longer available. BI301 and ET101 are not the first time this has happened. In some instances a Vryso book has been the recommended reading but the book is no longer on the Vryso store ( or Logos store for that matter). James Varner's course on James is also going to have issues.

In the past the readings have not been updated and Faithlife have indicated they were reluctant to make changes.  With the O'Brien and Varner books these are special cases and I hope for the sake of those who don't have access to these resources they do at least update these courses  but would like to see all courses with this problem updated at some point.

Bumping this unresolved issue. The present business model of no longer selling the older edition, once a newer edition becomes available, is the basis of this Mobile Ed problem.

I consider the readings the most valuable (educational) part of a course, as they often cover material that can't be presented in the shorter video. Owning a course but not being able to access to some of its readings is a problem.

FL needs to have some sort of contingency to handle situations where a course author uses a resource which is no longer available. It would be helpful if FL would either:

    • link to multiple editions of a book, so people can do readings regardless of which edition they own,
    • arrange to unlock the older edition for course owners who buy the newer edition of a book,
    • issue a store credit covering a portion of our cost of the course, based on the percentage of readings which are no longer sold, and/or
    • reduce the regular price of the course for future customers, once linked resources are pulled from the store.

Ideally, I'd suggest that a linked Mobile Ed resource should never be pulled from the store unless a course is updated, to avoid having to address issues like this in the first place.

Thanks for bumping this issue. When you originally posted, the new edition of that Moody resource was still in pre-pub so there wasn't a way for us to update the links, and I forgot to follow up. I've added links to the new edition and, and I'll get the course updated. The notes file in the FL group has already been updated.

Of the options you listed, we typically go with the first one: link to multiple editions of a book. That way we don't penalize people who own the older version by making them feel like they have to buy the update while still providing a way for people to purchase it going forward. Some users wouldn't want two different versions of the same book in their library, and sometimes we are limited by publishers in our ability to sell or unlock older editions.

Ideally, we would be able to update courses with links to new versions right away, but realistically we often aren't aware of new editions or that previous editions are getting retired from the store. With over 160 courses shipped, we have links to hundreds of different resources across all our courses. We'll continue to update links as soon as we can when older editions of books are retired.

    Thanks very much, Miles!

FL is a technology company that has many gifted people working for it. Couldn't someone write a script that could automatically check course links on a regular basis to make you aware when a linked resource is pulled/retired?

    Thanks again!
