Infographics: Your thoughts?

You should have a beta version of the Logos Bible Software Infographics resource. What do you think? Good idea? Enough topical coverage, or should we have more? Are they okay for PowerPoint, or do we need to customize them even further for that format?

(Have you tried right-click on a graphic to save or send to PowerPoint?)

    Bob,

no idea what you're talking about......

I have sent an image to powerpoint. I don't think that I'd ever use this feature. Copy and paste works fine.

Didn't try saving. I'll give it a go.

    Phil,

Do we have this resource in Beta 1 or not? The first few of us can't seem to find it in our programs and screenshots of an open resource are of no use to those of us who have asked what Bob wants us to give feeback on.

The Infographics resource should be in your library. I found it there under the library tab, have not found a shortcut, but really haven't looked either...

Still can't find it Phil... Frank can you post a screen shot of it showing up in the library i.e. what is the title because Infographics yields nothing.  I also tried Logos Bible Software Infographics that I can see in Phils screen dump and that yields nothing... is this something that was included as part of the orginal downloads or something added later as an update and that I would not pick up since I have synch turned off because it is not working properly for me because of timezone issues ... I'm clutching at straws here as to what's going on because I can not see this or timelines for that matter.....

Whatever this is looks like it could be helpful. I too have no idea where this is coming from. May I recommend you put it under the tools menu, Biblical People, Biblical Things, Biblical Places, Biblical Images.

Andrew, I went to the Library tab and then sorted by author, then went to Logos and it was under the Logos author heading. Not sure how to do a screen shot...

When I do that this is what I see. interestingly the only resource I found under Logos needs to be updated so I'm showing a picture. The instructional graphic will need to match updated to the 4.0

Just finished the DVD install, don't have access to the machine I still have the download install on, so I'm not sure whether it's on there or not.

Apparently the infographics didn't make it to everyone's install, but we know why and you should see them around the time of Beta 2. Sorry!

I have it on my DVD install. I have no menu appear on right-click. I can't copy them either.

They seem helpful for powerpoint, but some of them aren't the right aspect and some of them are too specific for some general use...but that's ok.

    Bob,

I have the infographics, but no right click ability.  I think it would be useful to easily send to PowerPoint.  Very useful actually.

    Bob,

I love the save file option. This is perfect. Have you considered metadata - such as bookname etc. so that we can give credit where credit is due....?

It didn't get to my install unfortunately, but it certainly looks interesting.

    I lookforward to Beta2

Andrew, et al. I found it by typing Infographics in the command bar. I have the DVD install, but also installed the additional downloadable resources (before I knew I didn't need to). I don't see how to export to PPT, but don't have PPT either. It may be nice to export to OpenOffice's or WordPerfect's (or even SongShow Plus') presentation programs.

It's a nice but fairly small graphical library. Hopefully it will be expanded.

Bob, I have the resource, but right clicking does nothing. No menu appears. It doesn't matter where I click on the screen: graphic, title, ToC, etc.

That's a bug. You should see the right-click options on people graphs and other places, but it's broken in "media resources", which is how we display the infographics.

Looks like I got it with my DVD install.

    My opinion(s)...somewhat stream of consciousness-esque.

    • Many (not all) of the images that are in there are nice and useful.
    • Of course, more is always better. However, keeping the bar high wrt the quality of images included is important. I don't think you want this degenerating into yet-another-Bible-clipart collection. It seems to me that keeping this resource valuable (i.e. not exhausting its purpose) would have to be a continual effort. I've always loved the Holman Book of Biblical Charts, Maps, and Reconstructions...and have used them extensively in my teaching. Of course, its on prepub as part of the Holman collection. It seems like possibly with the addition of Holman and other similar resources to the Logos "arsenal" another "in-house" developed resource of the same genre might be unnecessary.
    • Somewhat related to comment #2...not to presume that I know where Logos' (as a company) strengths lie...but when I look at the things that go into the Logos value proposition, you've got two primary facets, 1) Content and 2) Tools for managing/manipulating content. On #1, Logos has and does excel at getting abundant print content into digital format. Logos also does well (and continues to improve) with providing the tools ala #2. So...Logos' strengths appear to be...getting the content digitized in a usable fashion (e.g. interlinking, etc.) and building tools for efficient search, organziation, maniuplation and visualization of resource data. I may be missing something, but this resource doesn't seem to cater to / leverage those strengths.
    • It seems like the purpose for a resource like this is twofold (with some overlap)...1) It's yet another visualization tool for sifting through and organizing all of the data that the Bible contains (of course in this case - it isn't exactly configurable)...so valuable for study purposes 2) A resource for use in lesson preparation (i.e. teaching aid). For this resource to be good, does one goal need to supercede another? Just a question.

Got them on my DVD install and just found it a short time ago. Like the images, more would be nice. Plan to look closer to give more feed back.

I discovered this resource initially when one appeared on the Home section. Nice. They would be greatly helpful. As noted here the right click does nothing, so I was going to ask about that but a search on "infograhics" brought up this thread instead.

Do I have a bug? I have Infographics, and I actually have Beta 2 now, and I still can't right click on any of the graphics, let alone send to PowerPoint.

    Fred,

Obviously it's still broken as per Bob's reply a few messages above. If you open another resource with pistures, you should find the option with those images to save the image under a name of your choice or to "send to powerpoint"
