Is Logos 8 coming out soon?

I'm just wondering as 7 is at 7.6, and I am planning on upgrading from 6 Standard to 7 Standard or Bronze soon, and would rather not pay for a new version just to have more ads from FL pushing 8.

Hope not for a long while.  No Money!

If you want Logos 8 now try Logos Now.

Thankful for Basic and Verbum Basic that are free for upgrading to Logos 7 and/or Verbum 7 with "access-only" resources, which are free to use while having no effect on dynamic pricing.

Thankful for https://www.logos.com/tough-topics sale that includes 10 % discount for Base Package when purchased with a course in the Tough Topic sale.

Logos wiki => Mac Release Notes and History shows initial Logos 7.0 stable release on 22 Aug 2016 and initial Logos 6.0 stable release on 27 Oct 2014. Latest Logos 6 stable release is 6.14 SR-4. Uninformed user speculation for Logos 8 release is near Labor Day next year (with free Basic 8 about six months later in Feb 2019).

Logos 7 was released in later half of 2016, Logos 8 not expected to be released till later half of 2018 as currently they run on an unofficial 2 year cycle between major releases.

Don't read anything into the version number in regards to timing of releases. It is just an incremental number.  After 7.9 we will see 7.10, 7.11 etc. Theoretically we could see Logos 7.101, but I don't think we will come close to that version number. Logos 8.0 will most likely arrive long before that numbet is reached,

Of course as a business FL are free to change from a 2 year release cycle, it is not a legally binding time frame.

Whenever they choose to release Logos 8.0, regardless of what version you currently own, dependent upon what email lists you subscribe and settings you have chosen for your home page in the software, you are likely to be bombarded with advertising from FL encouraging you to either upgrade the version you own or to take up s subscription to get access to the latest version. In comparison to the companies earlier year,  advertising is now a big component of their current business philosophy.

So my recommendation would be to ignore advertising as a factor in your decision making process as to whether you should upgrade or not.

Although I have to say it is kinda disappointing that there's no new feature in Logos 7.6 release (7.7 beta too). (it kinda look like last year where there's no new feature just right before the release of Logos 7) [;)]

Maintenance releases are good. There are a lot of existing issues that require attention.

Yes, but in the past we grew accustomed to getting more new features. Since Logos Now, it makes more business sense for Faithlife to reserve these for subscription users until the next full version comes out. There are pros and cons to any approach to ownership now that it has been divided up into two tracks. We may still regret that it was, but there is no turning back and so we better get used to it. For those of us who do not have LN, updates will mainly be fixes here and there with not much exciting happening for two years.

I just remembered that I could change what appears when I open Logos. So that could be one thing to do. Either way, I will be upgrading sometime this year.

If you are thinking of upgrading, Logos just put out Logos 7 Fundamentals for $99 I believe. There is also a Logos 7 Basic for free. This will give you access to Logos 7 features without a large cash outlay, and then you can wait for Logos 8.

For clarification: The software is (and has always) been free. Some of the features, however, require licenses. Those may be acquired via a purchase OR through a "Faithlife Connect" subscription. The two things you mentioned do not provide access to all of the features.

Also, please note: "Logos 7" really means two things. First, it means the software (Free for basic, purchase or subscription for some new features). Second, it means a "library" (collection of books). In reality, the two things are really unrelated, even though they are released at the same time.

When L8 comes out, most all users should update to the L8 engine even if they do not intend to purchase a new library.

Well stated JT. as a long time Logos (back when they were switching from Libronix to Logos) you should always have the latest engine. Then you can update features that you want. I use to upgrade packages when it made sense, and now tend to be more selective.

If not intending to purchase an L8 library, users will have to wait until the L8 engine is available for "free" (as per previous major releases), except that subscription users usually get the engine when it is released, together with some new features (depending on the subscription level).

As many speculated the same things last time then bam Logos 7 came out. I think many were caught by surprise when it came, I was not expecting it but there it was. So, it is possible it may drop sooner than people think. Keep your lamp trimmed and ready it may come when you least expect it.

Logos 7 did come a little early, but only by a couple months—the trend is about two years between versions:

    Logos 6.0 6.0.0.3700 Monday, October 27, 2014

    Logos 6.14 6.14.0.0053 Monday, August 22, 2016

    Logos 7.0 7.0.0.0055 Monday, August 22, 2016

    8.0.1 (8.1.0.0000) is Now Available !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a joke? Or was it originally listed as 8.0??? It now says 7.7.

I'm just wondering as 7 is at 7.6, and I am planning on upgrading from 6 Standard to 7 Standard or Bronze soon, and would rather not pay for a new version just to have more ads from FL pushing 8.

FYI: the current way Logos is numbering the version changes, after 7.9 comes 7.10, then 7.11, etc. Doesn't make sense in the decimal system world, but in the programming world, it's how the numbering sometimes works.

From what we've been told, major version upgrades are now being released every 2 years.

BTW, you can upgrade to version 7 Basic for free here: https://www.logos.com/product/136022/basic (You can also purchase a Logos 7 feature set from the same page as you want.) There's no reason not to upgrade from version 6 to version 7, as you keep all you have in 6, while getting the current version 7 engine (which most experience as faster and more stable).

I understand that FL is concentrating on getting Logos to improve its overall performance. This is very welcome and certainly something that a world-class software needs. It's been a bit bumpy going from L4, so I'd rather see increases in speed and reliability than bells and whistles.

I agree. Logos is very powerful, but it takes a lot of PC resources. Some larger resources open very slowly. I know it's not my PC, I have lots of RAM and Lots of fast CPU cores. I hope the new notes system is easier and more intuitive to use.

I'm just wondering as 7 is at 7.6
For clarification: The "point" number is no indication for a new release. 7.9 can as easily be followed by 7.10 as it could 8.0... and actually, 7.10 is more likely.

I just paid for a Logos 7 silver base package, now I keep hearing of a logos 8 release? .. how will this affect me? Will I now have adds once logos 8 is released?

When a new major release is launched all you existing functionality remains.

New release bring new capabilities - most of which we need to pay for if we want them - and new bundles of resources.

A free engine upgrade to the new version is typically made available a few months after the release.

Based on past experience it is unlikely that we will see Logos 8 for about another year or so but I have seen no indication of when that might be

Ok, so when it is released, would I be able to just use Logos 7 instead of upgrading, and also, if I cant, then the logos 8 basic wont be released for a few months after the logos 8 release, will I not be able to use logos 7 until the free version of 8 is released?

    Thanks again.

Ok, so when it is released, would I be able to just use Logos 7 instead of upgrading

Yes absolutely - although eventually (quite some time) Logos 7 would become unsupported so advising to the free version of 8 would be recommended when it becomes available both to get the new free functionality and latest fixes etc.

then the logos 8 basic wont be released for a few months after the logos 8 release, will I not be able to use logos 7 until the free version of 8 is released?

Yes you can do that without any problem.

Note - both my comments above are based on what has happened in the last few major releases and I don't expect anything different next time round

Take a quick glance at some of the other forums:

Libronix (including Logos for Mac 1):
Has a post that states that states that: October 1st, we will turn off all web services supporting the Libronix Digital Library System – that is Oct 1, 2017    --  It also states that: This will not disable your Libronix DLS installation.

Then there are also: With dates of some very OLD posts in those forums to show how old those versions are

Historically Old versions of Logos get used long after new versions come out
Nothing guarantees that that will continue BUT history of Faithlife is that old versions keep running.

Sometimes new book require an upgrade but what you have keeps working as long as the computer you have keeps running.

There sometimes are problems running older versions of Logos on newer versions of the computer operating systems.  That is we do not know what will happen to Logos 7 [and 4 and 5 and 6] on Windows 13.  [[the same maybe true on Mac updated OP]]

Ok, so when it is released, would I be able to just use Logos 7 instead of upgrading ...

Yes, a friend continued to use Logos 6 for many months after Logos 7 was released, which included Logos 6 maintenance releases. After free Logos 7 was released earlier this year, friend purchased free Basic and Verbum Basic packages for Logos 7 upgrade.

Logos Wiki => Mac Release Notes and History shows initial Logos 7.0 stable release on 22 Aug 2016 was followed by five Logos 6 maintenance releases. End of Support for Logos 6 happened four months after free Logos 7 availability. Anticipating Logos 7 and Verbum 7 to be similarly supported after Logos 8 release.

Almost always ,,, remember when the smart "topic search" got dropped with one of the upgrades. This has never been totally replaced, though some of us made a stab at replacing it by creating collections of dictionaries and encyclopedias.

I think - but am not sure as I wasn't using Logos then - that this was the major architectural change from L3 to L4.

My comments were more related to Logos 4 onwards but appreciate I didn't make that clear.

    good one ..

Just took a survey from Logos asking what the liklihood is that I would upgrade to Logos 8. I wonder if it is now on the horizon.

Just took a survey from Logos asking what the liklihood is that I would upgrade to Logos 8. I wonder if it is now on the horizon.

That’s interesting. The England betting polls are currently at Aug 26. But Aug 23 very close.

No survey for me ... PC works fine. New Logos updates don’t. Easy answer.

I got the same survey.  Asking if you are likely to upgrade.  If you do upgrade what interests you the most.

For example, would you just upgrade for Logos 8 features.

Upgrade to a new bundle with new libraries?  ect

And then also what price point would you want to invest to upgrade.

I have part of L8 now with the Faithlife Connect Essentials No Library.  It’s looking good so far 👍😁👌
