NEW: Two New Courses Available for Pre-Order
Our latest courses available for pre-order include AR271 The Seven Cities of Revelation by David deSilva and BI182 God’s Word as Translation by Dr. Doug Trick.
AR271 The Seven Cities of Revelation
To understand the book of Revelation better, one must understand the world in which its first audience lived. This principle is basic to the interpretation of any New Testament letter, but it’s easy to forget when reading Revelation. Many people get caught up in the visions and forget that, from beginning to end, Revelation had to make good sense to Christians in Asia Minor toward the end of the first century; if it was going to speak to anyone at all, it had to speak to them.
In this course, Dr. David deSilva provides a visual tour of the local contexts of the seven cities addressed in Revelation. Beginning at the island of Patmos, Dr. deSilva examines the archaeology of these sites, explaining what this can tell us about the everyday world the early Christians encountered in these places. This course—enriched with photographs of the sites—will give you a sense of how the first audiences in these cities might have encountered the visions and oracles of Revelation.
BI182 God’s Word as Translation
In God’s Word as Translation, linguist and Bible translator Dr. Doug Trick discusses the process of translating Scripture. He examines some common assumptions regarding what makes a “good” Bible translation, and he addresses the notion of literalness, exploring whether the idea of a “literal” translation of any language is a valid concept. The course surveys the philosophy of language and then discusses the implications for Bible translation. Dr. Trick concludes the course by providing an overview of what God is doing through the body of Christ in bringing his word to all peoples around the world.

Miles sir
The Revelation one sounds super interesting to me but I'm curious what it means by "enriched with photographs". In my experience, these courses usually don't come with stuff like that. How will that aspect work?

That's a good question. This course is a bit different from a standard Mobile Ed course. In it Dr. deSilva discusses different archaeological sites from the seven cities of Revelation as well as the island of Patmos. He'll be referring to pictures of the sites that were taken during his travels, pointing out important features, and talking about their relevance. The videos will include these pictures.
If you watch the Overview video on the product page, you'll get a taste of what the course will look like. Although, that video just shows some examples of the pictures while Dr. deSilva talks about the course. In the course he'll be discussing the pictures that the videos are showing.

Thank you Miles, that helps clear that up a bit. Will those pictures also be available in the transcript or will the only way to see them is in the video?

Sorry for the delay. It looks like we only have permission to use the pictures in the videos at this point, so we are not able to include them in the transcript.

Thank you for the reply Miles. I hope that this changes by the time it ships! The video had some nice pictures. Maybe Mr DeSilva would allow it if asked?
