Well as you have figured out by now, we have a big Christmas sale planned. The "super secret" landing page has not been released yet, but I see that at least a dozen or so people have found it and shared it on Facebook already! You guys are good!
We plan on announcing the page soon, and as you have most likely figured out, the reason some things don't make sense yet, is because we haven't actually finished the page, or launched the special. A little more patience, and you'll see the official release.
The list of 2010 titles that will be on sale at 40% off, will all be linked from the special page and will have the benefit of the sorting our new website offers. There will be no coupon codes required. We will automatically lower all their prices to the discounted amount. Just add them to your cart and get as many as you like.
The big Christmas collection Pre-Pubs are scheduled to ship on the 17th, and the prices will be the same then as they are now. The only reason they are on Pre-Pub is because we couldn't wait any longer to announce the specials, but the collection files were not built yet. With so many titles, it takes a long time to not only go over the list, but to double and triple check it and make sure the collection files are built and tested properly. It is a lot of work to put out such massive collections!
If you want a payment plan, please wait until the 17th and order over the web with the payment plan. Our phone-sales reps are going to be insanely busy with people who are most likely going to be adding titles to their carts one at a[Y] time, and handling upgrade questions, so please order online if you can.
Stay tuned for more information. We trust there is something for everyone in all these Christmas specials, and we hope all our hard work comes through with something that will work out well for you this Christmas!

I just put my 40% off order in on titles that I had sitting in my cart since yesterday night (waiting to see how this sorts out). Looks like in many cases, the price off is actually 50% off what it was yesterday. So I'm very happy about that.

I believe the following page gives a good indication of which books are already in our collections. Perhaps as good as Logos can do at present. I reached it from the Browse All Products page, in the filter list on the left as 'Christmas Specials', then click on the Master Collection.

what a terrific idea! somehow, I missed it yesterday. Even had opened homepage.
What is difficult for me is wading through all those to see how much overlaps with what I own. I wonder if logos' technology could be coded into this page (like it does for the regular products page of (most!, lol) items we own or have pre-pubbed.

. . . ummmm, don't mind me. I am just not very observant. I posted this from page 1, not knowing pages 2 and 3 existed and already brought up what I did (and more!)

In order to compare the Christmas Special Master List with my own Logos Library I used my Full Library collection (rating:>=0), then exported it to Word, which I then converted to a table. (I made it a 2-column table, using paragraphs to separate data, then deleted the 2nd column containing the author info, so that what remains is a left column with titles, and an empty right column.) Then I sorted the left column alphabetically in order to get my list of books sorted by the first letter, including articles ('a', 'the', etc.) so that it is sorted the same way as the Christmas Special Master List. The next step was to go to the Christmas Special Master List (http://www.logos.com/product/8737/christmas-2010-master-collection) and select and copy the entire list (it took a few minutes to select everything!). I then selected the right column in my table and pasted the Christmas Special Master List into the table (I first added enough extra rows to accomodate the list, which has more entries than my own library). Voila! I now have two side by side lists: my own library on the left, and the Christmas Special Master list on the right. My next task is to scroll down the table and gradually delete each item on the Christmas Master List which is already in my library, instructing Word to move remaining cells upward as I delete each one. When I'm finally finished, I should have a list of all the items in the Christmas List which are not in my own library. Then I can decide which of them I would like to purchase. A bit of work, but worthwhile, and kind of fun to figure out! Blessings, everyone!

Nice work Darcy! If I actually had the cash to purchase something, I WOULD go to all that work. Tapped out, unfortunately. I wonder if this could be done in Excel and combined with a formula to figure up the sum of what you don't have or do want compared to the price of what the package is listed as. But don't feel compelled to figure that out!

Thanks for the great concept of thousands of books to select from.
Just an observation from looking at a few books that I might be interested in. Some of the books were at 50% off the retail price, others were less of a discount. So if the list of books is being offered at 40% off then some of these might end up as a price increase.

Dan, I hear you. Not sure how much I can afford either. Thought maybe I'd try to pick a few really 'needed' choices and put in a request with my wife for a Christmas present.

By the way, I think Excel would probably do a better job than Word, but I'm not too proficient at Excel yet (just upgraded to Office 2010 and still learning how things work), so I stayed with Word. Perhaps someone else on the Forums could do something with Excel and pass it on to the rest of us.

Worth noting here... some of the prepubs that have been published since early October are included in the individual book sales being offered. I checked the prices against my prepub "photo" and several are even a bit less (even almost half on the less expensive books) than the prepub price that was offered! I will definitely be picking those up.
Thank you Logos for some great resources at great prices![:D]
http://www.logos.com/product/6055/anchor-yale-bible-mark-8-16 is $27.50 on the current Christmas Sale and was $37.95 on pre-pub (I got it on pre-pub)
http://www.logos.com/product/6053/anchor-yale-bible-nahum is $32.50 on the current Christmas Sale and was $49.95 on pre-pub (I got it on pre-pub)
So there are some great sales to be found!

the new Logos resource recognition program still is not completely accurate. One example: according to the website, I don't own Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible. I do.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to see what yesterday's (12/13/2010) prices were? I have a few items in my Amazon "universal wish list", so I can compare those prices to today's for resources in the collection. For example, the 8 volume Boettner collection is $60.48; yesterday it was $109.95. But it shows a retail price today of $120.95. So if I don't have a recent historical price for a resource, I can't see what the real savings is.
Thoughts? Thanks,
Donnie

Google search the title and then select "Cache" under the Logos.com link.

I didn't see a post about this, and I've done only limited verification that it's working. But if you start with the base URL for the specials:
http://www.logos.com/products/search?Specials=Featured
and then suffix it with a search word in the query string, you can filter the list further. For example,
http://www.logos.com/products/search?Specials=Featured&q=grammatical
searches for resources that match the word "grammatical" *within* the list of specially featured resources.

with the sale I was able to complete my IVP New Testament Commentary (bought individually), picked up Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible at a huge discount, and then jumped on some great Southern Baptist resources previously locked away in collections or out of my price range. Thanks Logos!

Wow, I think the possibility to build our own collection of 50% discount is by far the best I ever seen in Logos for Christmas. I just went through the list, picked all I would like to have (some great stuff like Dead Sea Scrolls in English) than purged the list from those I can live without (it took me a while [:)] ) and now... I need to be man and click the PROCEED button [^o)]

I was just wondering if this was a typo? Is the whole collection suppose to be posted or just part of the collection?

I guess I have the same question concerning the The Preaching the Word Series in the master collection I did not find all 19 volumes included. According to the master library page the book of Isiah, Luke vol 2, the sermon on the mount, Ephesians, and first and second timothy are missing. I am wondering if these are just typo errors or if the whole collection is not really included?

No, that is not a typo. Some collections are only partially included for the Christmas deal.

I know the partial collection thought is frustrating yet I've found multiple opportunities to build to various commentary collections from the base package.

In fact almost anything that is multi-volume is only partially represented. One volume of a five volume dictionary for example.
At the prices now it might be reasonable to buy them. Realize it might be awhile (if ever) before the rest of the set or series is discounted.
At $1.00 a book one could wait some time to pick up the rest.

Why would I want one dictionary out of a set of dictionaries? I guess with the commentary sets it is ok not to have the whole set, but why would logos only put partial sets? It just seems kinda odd, has there been a logos employee to confirm that it is not a typo? I just find it hard to believe they would offer one dictionary out of a set of dictionaries.

That's kind of my point. Why would they do that? It makes no sense.

A lot of the single books that have been offered are newer releases of pre-existing collections, this does provide the opportunity for those that already of the sets to complete them. When books are purchased in sets, there is usually a discount already applied (except in cases where the original publisher is unwlling), in which case those who buy the single volumes may be able to realize the set discount at a later time.

Thanks, I copied the master set to excel, and confirmed the count to double check that it was not a typo. Mr. Peterson made a good point about the pre-existing collections being complete adding some of these books. I am just not sure with me how many would become complete. I guess my next question would be if one already owns portfolio, are we going to have to re-buy some of these titles in order to take advantage of the deal?

Ok, I guess I figured it out.,, I should have read a little farther. Logos anticipated that many of us would own alot of these titles.. "You can either filter out the titles you already own to see what’s left". So do you have to click each title and add it to your cart to find out the final price?

From what I can tell, the sale price is displayed in the Special Features list, so you can just Add To Cart directly from the list if you don't need to see a resource's details.

You still have to double check, though. I own "Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible" (perhaps, through Platinum or some other collection), but the website keeps telling me that I do not own it at http://www.logos.com/products/search?Specials=Featured&unlocked=no&q=dictionary and in the resource's page.
I've done a check though library.logos.com, and it's there in my unlocked resources.

I guess what I was trying to ask if there a way you can click the "what's left", and purchase that list rather then going through them one by one trying to build your own. For me I would have to click 1290 books.. That would take forever...

give one volume of a two volume commentary on Psalms? Give two of five volumes of A History of the Jewish people in the Time of Christ? Give the 4th volume of five of The Encyclopedia of Christianity? Give nine of 21 volumes of Horae.. (and it's even public domain!)? What kind of thinking is this??
Let me get this straight. I pay them $2000 now, And another $5000 Later to complete the sets they have teased me with?
I completely agree. This looked like an amazing deal I clearly would have gone for. But after looking into it in more details, I am not interested in one or two volumes of a series. Such a fragmented library does not help me much. So I guess, I will be missing out on this deal. [:'(]

I just bought 33 volumes, several of which had been on my wishlist, or that I already had in paper form, but couldn't justify the expense. Thanks Logos!

I disagree with those that are feeling this is not a great deal because some of the sets are not complete. I have never seen such a great deal even without some of the sets not being complete.
Where can you buy a Christian book for a dollar??? How many of those sets that are broken do not contain more than one dollars worth of information? Many of these sets contain volumes that are worth 20-40 dollarsor more for each volume.
Remember no one forces you to buy the rest of the set latter, and in most cases it is worth the 1 dollare per volume to use the material in that one book!
And here is why I disagree with what you are saying. We live in a new age of learning, with Logos in most cases it does not matter if you have a full set or not, you are searching groups of books on different topics or verses. If your new book contains the topic or the verse it will be pulled up for you to use and it makes no difference if it is a single book from a series.
Of course if you do not like the books in this package that is a good reason not to buy it, but I think Logos has done a great job of giving us better package deals than I have ever seen any where!!!
I work with a lot of different programs teaching believers how to use them, and I have never seen deals anywhere near as good as these deals. Yes, there some pd books in these packages but even they are worth way more than 1.00 a book and there are tons of single copyrighted books in these packages with normal prices of 20-30 dollars.
Remember these deals are to help us build our over all libraries at the cheapest prices possible. I have never seen any place that compares with these deals even if they were all pd books.
Of course if you are blessed these might not be good deals for you since you already have so many of these books, but that certainly does not take away from the fact that I have never seen anyone offer such a value on books. Logos is trying hard to give us what we want. If I am wrong, point me to the other place with better buys for collections like these!
On another note, the 50% off make your own package is also something I have never seen any other place do with any where near this number of books. I am out of money right now, but if I wasn't I would be using this deal to pick up 200 to 300 dollars of books!
Thank-you Logos, thank-you very much, I am sure many people will be blessed by such offers.
Thanks for your effort, and just so you know even if I don't buy right now, it is not that you didn't give use great deals! Do you have rain checks??? I know you offer payment plans but I have limits on those too!
In Christ,
Jim VanSchoonhoven

It's a great sale. I find it a little difficult to wade through because there are still resources it suggests I am not licensed for, and I am. It may be that it gets confused on resources originally bought in a set, which are now being sold individually; it may not see a purchase of that book for example. Just guessing.
You have to be very careful sorting through resources, and this takes time - especially wading through such a generous list of sale items!

I'm having a hard time answering this question about this sale; when making your own collection, is it the price listed to be put in "cart" or is it 50% off of that, b/c the sale already has 50% off in price listings.
Is it 50% off of what is shown (the very bottom number) or is it just the price that is shown when put in the cart? So do you look at the bottom number and 1/2 that? Thanks
0 -
Hi Tim,
It is the price shown. The price on the website already reflects the discount.
0 -
Misleading at best in that they claim they're offering a 50% discount, but that's not 50% off their usual sale price, it's 50% off the fictitious "retail price", hence often a lot less than 50%. I suspect that in the UK this would be against trading standards law!

I have not looked at many of these items, but Preaching the Word Ephesians is not included in the sale and it is around $24US. The Preaching the Word commentaries on sale are around $12... looks like 50% to me. Is it 50% off the lowest price they every offered.. I don't know...
It is a sale... do you like the prices.. then purchase..don't like them..then don't.. why question the integrity of a company trying to offer their customers a better price?
