BUG: Orange Highlighter Is Now Dull Brown 8.9 beta 3
With yesterday's update the natural orange highlighter, which used to be a bright orange, is now a dull brown. Is anyone else seeing this?
PLEASE change it back. Orange is my primary highlighting color in Logos.

Sorry, David, this was an intentional change. We updated the color scheme for notes and highlights when we rolled out the Notes tool, and while the color changes were applied to resource markup on the web app, it was overlooked in the Logos 8 desktop styling refresh. We are making this change to unify colors across all platforms (coming soon to mobile).
I hope it won't be too distracting after you had a little time to acclimate. =/

Oh my that's not good. Change it back PLEASE or don't call it orange because that is not orange. This is really disappointing and seems like it is making a change for the sake of making a change. That was literally my go-to color for highlighting as orange highlighters are also my go to physical highlighter. I do not/will not like the new color. Why must we have drab? This looks like someone hated color:
Only the red squares look like real colors. Must highlights look like colors for a funeral home?

When the different colors (such as pink and purple) are shown in the screenshot, it is easier to distinguish between colors.
But in the course of normal reading (without other colors being shown), it has become more difficult now to recognize and identify a given color, since a change in hue falls outside the expected appearance of what a color should look like.

I think it's less a question of acclimating, and more an issue of recognizing colors for what they are.
If orange no longer looks orange, shouldn't the intentional UX change be reconsidered?

I agree that the colors look drab. It seems like the highlighter colors are less saturated now.

Here is another screenshot with what is now called "orange" and "red" side by side, it is hard to distinguish at first glance. This has to go back to the way it was. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hi. I must agree - this is definitely a change for the worse! Please revert back. A suggestion would be for programmers to concentrate on eradicating bugs and not dreaming up unwanted “improvements”.
Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh but I’m just showing there is a strength of feeling across the board on this matter.

Please don't 'dis programmers for applying a common rule of usability - consistency across platforms.

Those of us who feel very strongly that it doesn't matter one way or the other and have other priorities for the staff have generally not weighed in. You are free to dislike it. I have a number of feature implementations in Logos that I dislike.

Yes, it is dependent on (a) your screen (b) your settings (c) your eyesight ... if you have ever designed a web based system to be usable for color-blind and low-vision users as well as the "visually ideal users" you'd have a great deal of sympathy for the interface designers.

I happen to be a bit yellow color blind - I cannot distinguish between crimson and brick red in chem lab flame tests; Mother and I argued frequently over whether something was green or blue. I actually see this "orange" as a bit more "orange" than the old "orange" and a bit easier to read. I mention this only to remind people that their visual perception may or may not be representative of the "general population of users"

Then perhaps they should give people the option to choose which version they use, or, as some have suggested, choose your own colors. But I am very disappointed.

I personally hate this sort of option - it takes a great deal of time and effort that I would rather see spent elsewhere - like getting certain interactives working. But priorities are personal and I understand why some would be fine with the expenditure of resources on colors.

I agree this should not habe been changed but I do find it interesting to see people complaining about FL changing something for the sake of it. I’ve complained for many years about that very thing and have been told off for doing so by some of the people who are now complaining.

Yes, please!
The desktop platform has been around a lot longer and I‘m guessing it has more users than the web platform. The web should conform to the desktop, not the other way around.

That's a good idea...and with the notes/highlights bulk updater, you should be able to bring your orange highlights to your desired custom orange.

There are two mains reasons for updating the highlighting colors. One is stylistic; the old palette hasn’t been changed since Logos 4, and we wanted to update in keeping with the general color scheme of the Logos 8 style changes. This is less “conforming to the web app” and more “all apps are conforming to a new style.”
The underlying reason for choosing this palette is functional. The new highlight palette is less saturated and lighter, so there is more contrast between the highlight and black text. This provides better readability when put behind black text (which is the primary use case for highlighting). An unintended consequence is that the lighter colors have LESS contrast on the sepia/yellowish toned page color Jack is using.
We are going to revert the change for the time being, and take time to consider if we can adjust the palette to meet both needs in a later version.

I understand that if you were talking about the way the program itself looks. However, highlighters, particularly the natural highlighters, were designed to look like real-world highlighters. I appreciate this.
