BUG and annoyances: Logos' bad memory
It is rather annoying that Logos keeps reverting to how I don't want things to be. Just a few examples from today and yesterday:
a) Print/export. Virtually every time I want to print/export I have to change US Letter to A4 (the setting stays put during one session, but reverts to default on restart). I very much doubt that I will ever use US Letter -- I don't even know what it looks like -- so why am I stuck with it? (And why, by the way, doesn't the print/export window close by itself? How likely is it that I want to print the same thing twice?)
b) Library. When I close down with the Library open, I would wish it opened the way I left off, but currently I can't even make my choices stick in a saved layout. E g yesterday I created a specific Layout to create PB's in. It included the Library sorted by Last Updated and had edition:user in the reference box, so that I would only see the PB's -- but, of course, when I next opened it, both of those settings were gone.
c) Favorites. Every time I open Favorites I have to start by collapsing Bookmarks, so that I get enough space to see the folders.
d) Favorites. Every time I open Favorites I also have to start by opening lots of folders that were already open when I last used it. Favorites could be so useful, but all this folder-opening makes it almost useless when one doesn't have screen estate enough to keep it open at all times. It takes so much time before you can click on what you want that it is usually faster to get it some other way.
e) Favorites. When I've finally gotten all folders like I want them, then all I have to do is to click New Folder and, voilà, one or more folders close again! (Happens very often, but not always.) This one, at least, has got to be a bug!
- What I really would like would be to be able to select a folder before clicking and get the new folder added as a subfolder to that one, instead of at the bottom of the list.
- Also, the new folder should, of course, be selected and ready for entering its new name. Wasn't that the case until recently? Now I have to either click twice, or right-click and choose Rename before I can name it. Can't remember having to do that earlier.
There are many more examples, and I'll add them as I come to think of them and have time (or perhaps others will).

I just noticed that in the description and the screenshot on the Wiki, the new folder does indeed show up ready to be named, so the current Mac behaviour has to be either a regression or a feature parity issue. (And, like I said, I believe the former.)
fgh said:What I really would like would be to be able to select a folder before clicking and get the new folder added as a subfolder to that one, instead of at the bottom of the list.
This also works on the Wiki, so again either a regression or a feature parity issue. (Can't remember which.)

f) Print/export. Won't remember which folder I want the copy in. I have to click my way down the same 5 or so layers of subfolders every time.
I've also found yet another regression:
g) Collections. I have layouts where the Collections tab turns up with a particular collection chosen, so at one point Logos did remember my setting. Now, however, it seems impossible to update those layouts to show other collections instead, and equally impossible to create a favorite opening to a particular collection.

I too have [another name for a female dog] about this. I was told that this was done so that we can print twice without having to do all of the previous steps to get back to the print/export window.[^o)]fgh said:And why, by the way, doesn't the print/export window close by itself? This bug also occurs when deleting a favorite.

What previous steps, one might ask? Cmd-p is only one step...
Ah! Now I get it. They seem to have 'forgotten' to add a box for selecting how many copies you want... Smart. So if you want more than one, you either have to click Print several times, or, if you want more than a few, export to pdf instead, so that you can print from there. Well, the solution to that isn't to keep the window open, it's to add that missing box.

I don't know whether it will be any reassurance, but PC users are similarly afflicted by this peculiar behaviour (or, at least, this was still the case the last time I used L4 on my desktop PC).

Then it's a definite regression. As I showed in my second post, the Wiki proves it once worked on PC.

Using Logos 4.5b Beta 7 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 can replicate; personally wish Logos 4 Mac Print/Export would default to the "Default paper size" for the Default printer in System Preferences for Print & Fax. If no default printer, then default to custom 8.5 x 11 paper size.

Likewise wish for option to save Library with search order and filter. Copying Library location as URL does not copy any filtering nor sorting.

Likewise wished for Favorite behavior to be more like web browser bookmark folders that remember what was opened and closed (between sessions). Also wish bookmark style folders could be used for shortcuts.

I should have expanded that description a bit. I have one folder for backups. I always want my exports to go there. However, if I do an export, then I do something else that also requires locating a folder/file on the computer, then, the next time I want to do an export, the suggested folder is the one the latter file was in, not my backup folder. Typically this happens after I've added a .docx to create a PB, but I would assume it's the same if I e g use a file on the computer to create a Passage List.
It would be much more user friendly if the Print/export remembered its folder, and the PB tool remembered its folder. After all, one is an export, the other is an import, so wanting different folders for them seems pretty normal to me.
That must have taken you some time to work through! [:)] (Though probably not as much as it took for me to report it.)

This, on the other hand, really did surprise me. How is this not a bug? It goes completely against the standard in both Finder and every other Mac program I can think of, plus, as I said, it makes Favorites essentially useless.
And surely you must know as well as I that putting small things like this on Uservoice is meaningless. Only big things have any chance of collecting enough votes to make a difference.

Why were you surprised? Being Mac-like matter has never mattered in Logos. Sigh. I like many of the features in Logos, but it is a Windows program with a Windows philosophy and mentality. I have accepted that fact. Fortunately, for my daily study and biblical work I have an alternative that is a Mac program. If I HAD to choose just one program, it would not be Logos. I have always found Logos employees to be helpful and I am glad to have Logos available on the Mac as a supplemental program for occasional use. I monitor the Mac Logos forum and run Logos nearly every day, just to make sure the downloads and updates with indexing are all up to date—that way, if I really want to use the program, it is available, and I don't have to wait a prolonged period of time when I first start Logs up.

The last couple of releases fixed a few things, which I was pleased about. Some things seem a bit snappier, so I don't know if that is just my imagination or some optimisation work going on.
That being said, I have found three formatting errors and crashed it outright when I clicked 'DONE' on the information window. Some of these issues I have reported, some I just have not had time. How long has 4.6 and 4.6 SR-1 been out? I've got some work today to do and more than likely I will find at least one more problem. It seems when one thing gets fixed, another gets broken.
My biggest annoyance of what has been broken is the default font in notes. All my notes are huge now. New notes that I form are ok, but why you would blow up everyone's notes, I have no clue. [8o|]

I am never surprised at things not working in Logos, only annoyed. What would surprise me would be being able to do one full hour's work without encountering a single bug. That's never happened so far. Usually in that time I find about 5 new bugs, besides the older ones that have pestered me for months or years.
Donovan, I'm afraid I can't figure out what your post has to do with the issues this thread is dedicated to. I presume you meant it for another one?

e) Favorites. When I've finally gotten all folders like I want them, then all I have to do is to click New Folder and, voilà, one or more folders close again! (Happens very often, but not always.) This one, at least, has got to be a bug!
This has been fixed in 4.6a when creating a New Folder and deleting a folder.
