Shinkaiyaku Japanese Bible 2017

As a missionary in Japan, it would be really nice if we had the most commonly used translation in Japan. There are no Japanese translations available, even one preferably the one listed in the Title would be great!

  • I agree the Shinkaiyaku 2017 would be a great edition to the Logos library. However, actually I think it is a mystery why Logos does not have even one Japanese Bible translation available.
  • Yes, let's get at least one Japanese Bible Translation in logos.

@BKMitchell  We've been in contact with the publisher. I don't know yet what the outcome will be. We may also be able to get another Japanese Bible, perhaps even soon. Thank you for your patience!

    Hello @Ben Misja (Logos)
Sounds weird to talk to you in English as we both understand German better. Anyway so @BKMitchell   understands it too I use English.

See if you can get the files with Rubi Ruby/Furigana https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_character. I guess Logos has to bring also a new feature to use them fully. A competitor has this well done. See here: https://www.abiblesoftware.com/abible/index.html or in the App Store there are more images. https://apps.apple.com/ch/app/a-bible-4/id1464114530?l=en-GB&mt=12

In A-Bible you can select in which of the 2 or 3 reading systems you want to input your search. I had once an image how this is done.

The Crosswire has them too with Ruby

5 Japanese Bible modules which had been waiting for adequate support for Ruby markup have now been released into our main repository

BTW: The original vertically system would be great too to have in Logos.

  • @Ben Misja (Logos)  Thank you so much for your reply!
  • @Fabian   Thanks but looking at the photos I do not see any rubies which are usually placed above the words in printed Japanese Bibles (or in horizontal texts) not next to them in brackets. Also, you can use German if you like remember there are services like Deepl, Google Translate, and even ChatGPT. Those services will never be 100% accurate but I will be able to get the main point.

@BKMitchell  Yes, in these fotos not, but in other fotos of this app I have seen them. Sorry I haven't found the newer fotos, only older. Some links on the website aren't working properly now as they was in the past. There was some images behind the "button" on https://www.abiblesoftware.com/abible/featurese.html, but they have gone. Sorry.

  • Hello! I'm a missionary to Japan as well. I'm wondering is there any updates on this?

@TheChosenOne  I am in conversations with the translation organization. I am optimistic and will share news here as soon as they're ready to be shared!

Update: Provided that we can secure rights to the 2017 edition, we will produce both the 2003 edition and the 2017 edition soon, thanks to support from a partner.

As for the 2017 edition, as stated previously, I am optimistic that we're not far away from coming to an agreement with the publisher.

The 2003 New Japanese Translation can be pre-ordered here (https://www.logos.com/product/36473/shinkaiyaku-japanese-bible) and is going into production now. With Bibles, it can be difficult to estimate a delivery date, because we often find that we have to make small updates to Logos in order to support the exact verse map. But I would expect the 2003 edition to be available in the first half of 2025.

I can also announce that we are preparing the Japanese Contemporary Bible, tentatively available some time in 2025.
